  • The 2023 Peach harvest is finished and I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how well these trees have done. Even after thinning off over 200 peaches, these trees still produced over 60 lbs of organic homegrown peaches for me. They are definitely a garden favorite that I will have growing no matter where I live! The Eva's Pride are still the favorite in my house for both flavor and productivity but the sweetness and colorful flesh of the August Pride also does not disappoint.
    What are your favorite fruit trees to grow? Any new varieties you think I should try? As always, thanks for watching and I can't wait to see what the 2024 harvest will look like!

      Oh wow! I’ve never heard of a Paw Paw. What are they like?

    I would let them get as big as they can and have some giant peach trees

      @@210treecare I would love for these trees to get huge! Unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to pick any fruit taller than my reach because they’re on a slope and using a ladder would be too dangerous. I’m clumsy enough with my feet on the ground 😅. If I ever get the chance to plant on level ground, I will definitely have a much larger Eva’s Pride. They’re the best!!

    Peach is the tree everyone should have, asian pear is a good one but it needs some attention as some will over fruit and snap.

      I agree! I love my peach trees. If we ever move, my Eva’s Pride is the one tree I know I’ll miss the most (and I will certainly take scions of)!

    I love my Eva's Pride flavor and August Pride is also good. I used to have a Mid Pride that was also very good but tree died from county spraying round up in the ditch by where it grew.

      Oh no! So sorry to hear about the Mid Pride!

      @@herhomeandharvest Ya didn't realize what it was at first, but it was from round up spray. Might re-plant a Mid Pride tree somewhere else because it was so good.

      @@gardentips1249 I hope you’re able to. Especially if you really liked it. I would definitely replant my Eva’s Pride if it died or if I ever moved. I love this tree so much!

      @@herhomeandharvest Yes Eva's Pride has amazing flavor. Mid Pride is pretty close in flavor, I liked it a little better than August Pride. Kaweah peach is also one of my favorites. It gets ripe late in August, sometimes into September. It has firmer flesh than Eva's Pride but the flavor is great. Beautiful red skin and not as thick as August Pride's skin. I have two Kaweah trees, they're great since most summer fruit is done ripening by then.

      Thank you! I do love my peaches but I’m sure there are all kinds of wonderful fruits that grow well in Jamaica that I can’t grow here!

    Wow, those are such large peaches! I have a May Pride, but last year should have been my first harvest and a squirrel or something got them all when nowhere near full size or ripe. We’ll see if I can protect them better this year. My plan is to do a good bit of grafting onto that tree in future, to try to spread out my harvest across more of the year.
    Oh, and as my backyard orchard is pretty new, I’ve been most excited about the figs so far, because they are the only trees already producing enough fruit for me to give some of it away! I’m in SoCal too (high desert), where figs and pomegranates love to grow!

      @herhomeandharvest  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bummer you lost a year to the critters!! Netting worked well for me but my issue was more birds than squirrels.
      It sounds like you have a good start to your backyard orchard though!! The high dessert can grow so many trees so long as they can survive the brutal heat of summer! I hope you’re able to start getting fruit this year!!!

      Thanks! I love peaches but I bet you can grow a lot that I can’t grow here! It’s definitely greener in the Philippines.
