  • This is NOT an original SH story by Sir A.C. Doyle, but one written by the wonderful and unique Zakaria Erzinçlioglu, who was an actual forensic scientist, and has solved many a case using Holmes' methods (alas, he died in 2002):
    www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obitu...
    You should definitely check out his book Maggots, Murder and Men!!
    I tried to contact the publishers of the book in which this remarkable story is to be found - "The Mammoth Book of New Sherlock Holmes Adventures" by Carroll&Graf Publishers, Inc. 1997 - but they are no longer in existence. However, I was able to get permission from the successor - The Perseus Books Group. Thank you very much indeed!!
    You can find them here:
    www.perseusbooksgroup.com/
    And you can still find the book an Amazon (I just checked - it was edited by Mike Ashley).

    Though not by Sir Arthur himself , this is the first time I hear a "second hand" Sherlock Holmes story that could equal one of his own. Not the least by also having a plausible historical context !
    This was a treat 😊

      Invaluable! Thank you. There are also the fairly good "New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries" audiobooks with fine readers; the series of well-rendered pastiches by authors like the one above from the "Mammoth Book of New Sherlock Holmes Mysteries"; several efforts by Maurice LeBlanc of Lupin fame to insert Holmes into duels of wits with Arsin; and the very amusing "The Stolen Cigar-Case" parody of Holmes by the great Bret Harte. cheers

    The Holmes stories are improved once relieved of Conan Doyle's formal, florid and rather fussy Victorian prose. This one might be easier to follow if one were reading it as the cast of characters here boasts a series of almost unpronounceable (to a non-Balkan listener) and thus ununderstandable names. All the thick accents don't help. This is pretty heavy going so far, though only halfway through.

    Pike- is your blurb actually true-??
    That the forensic scientist actually used Holmes methods? (Which, in fact, were Doyle technique, over 120 years old. ) ??

    • @pikewerfer
      @pikewerfer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, this is true (I read that in an article about him). He WAS a forensic scientist. He naturally used modern methods to do his job, but he also used the Sherlockian powers of deduction to gain more insight into his "patients". He is dead, unfortunately. There is a (unfortunately very small) Wikipedia article about him, too.
