The SECOND you called,Robert Downey Jr, a "Nobody", I had to cut you loose. He was a teen actor,"Weird Science","Less Than Zero"..He was nominated for an Oscar for "Chaplin"...A Drug Addict? Yes. A Nobody?? Mmmmmm. Also. He looked like Tony Stark in every time period EXCEPT the 90s. And Pascal doesn't look the part. And since comic books are a VISUAL medium...
I’m not super for or against it. I think Pedro Pascal is a fantastic actor and I’ve been a fan of basically everything he’s been in. My only concern is that he’s almost 50 and I don’t really know how many sequels he’s going to want to be in if it does turn out to be a success. I do recognize that he’s in great shape and very much a capable action star, but if the fantastic 4 are gonna be integral to the upcoming mcu, I think a cast of 20-30 somethings is a better way to go. That’s just me though
I can't believe you're gone 💔.... It's just another hard reminder that anyone's last day could be any day, we think we have all the time in the world but we really don't. Cherish each day and as Yinsen told Tony, don't waste your life ❤
Dont forget pedro played an incredibly convincing whip slinging cowboy in kingsman golden circle aswell and also killed a villain role in the equalizer. Bro has range
I missed the days when unknown actors were chosen to fill these types of roles. A clean slate meant u weren't picturing another movie or show while looking at them. That said, PP is one of the most versatile actors on screen today. I think he'll kill it.
RDJ? The man who was perfectly fit for the roll and literally everyone said was a perfect match and even looked like the roll? I think you meant ledger.
I feel like most of the actors in the MCU that played Avengers weren't unknown. The only one who I can think of that (to my knowledge) didn't have any huge roles prior was Chris Hemsworth.
robert Downey Jr was know just any one, which means you are a lot younger than I, when they said he would be Tony Stark, I was like great choice because he looked like the Tony Stark I knew from when I was reading comic books back in the 70's/80s/90s
I remember there being a lot of skepticism at the time because a lot of the public still viewed him as a washed up addict who fell from grace in the 90s. In reality, he had gotten clean and was actively working to resurrect his career. He turned out to be the perfect choice, but a lot of people still saw him as a risk.
RDJ is definitely an example of an actor who's hot streak was very much OVER when he got the Tony role. He was never out of work, but definitely not the kind of star power he had in the 80s/90s. He had only JUST gotten some acclaim for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang a couple years before Iron Man.
My only real worry with Pedro Pascal is his age, but that's mostly because I assumed they'd cast younger. If he's playing Papa Fantastic, his age is more understandable. If Franklin and Veleria are in the movie, then an older Reed fits the script. If it's a time skip situation, they've shown they're open to de-age someone for large parts of a movie. He's a fantastic actor (pun not intended, didn't notice it until after I typed it out, but it's awesome, so I'm running with it), and I think he'll do a great job.
Tbh I still don't like the Pedro Pascal casting since he might make Reed Richards come across as a snarky Tony Stark type rather than a self absorbed nerd. I'll give it the benefit of a doubt though since he's undeniably a great actor and I'm interested in the direction Marvel wants to take the Fantastic 4 (even though I've only really watched 3 or 4 Marvel projects after endgame lol)
He doesn’t even look that different from the character lol. I’m NOT a fan of changing characters appearances for diversity’s sake, but hiring a good actor because they are a good actor is different. People need to understand that. And like I said he doesn’t look super unlike the character.
I will say im all for comic book accuracy but not with actors as long as the characters are written accurately to comics im happy plus pedro pascal is by far one of the better picks to play reed as in pedro is an amazing actor that can and has played dynamic characters
Honestly I don't care how an actor looks so long as I can believe them. I'm a DC fan and we swap actors for heros and villains more than some change their underwear, but if I can believe the actor is the character, I'm good.
Save your sanity and don’t argue with people on the internet.. it’s pointless and the idiots are endless. Smart people type out their comment, re-read it, and decide it’s not worth engaging. Let the dumb talk themselves in circles.
FACTS. The only valid argument I’ve seen is his age considering this is probably a long term role but Krasinski is a similar age to him so people using that as ammo but wanting John are lying to themselves.
The problem with Pedro Pascal is that I've seen almost everything he's done, and I've never seen him portray anything even close to Reed Richards, he's been typecast for many of his roles, including Mandalorian and Last of Us ..... That being said, I'm a fan and I hope he does a great job, but I see nothing in his filmography that tells me he is the right choice I will say that with actors like JDJ and Chris Evans, they had a history of playing characters or showing character traits that put them in line with the character they were going to play ...... RDJ was damn near just playing a cross between 90% of the characters he's played before and himself and what his public persona was as an actor ...... Chris Evans had portrayed 3 different comic characters before Captain America, 2 of which had elements of Captain America in them, never mind movies like Paperboy and Sunshine showing his range and ability to play earnest characters ...... So there is some difference between those 2 examples and Pedro Pascal In the end I just want a good movie and I hope that the choices that Marvel Studios has made equate to that end result, but at this point, the MCU, both on the big screen and streaming, has gone from being 100% reliable as a source for excellent content, to, for me personally, 50/50 at best, which is I think ultimately the issue for most people and why people now question everything Disney and many of these other studios, do ...... The fans have been burned and conditioned to assume that there are political and/or strategic decisions being made that overshadow characters and stories ...... Because it been done so blatantly in the past 10 years or so, that now, even when that might not be the case, the fan react, assuming that those are the reasons a certain decision has been made. Basically, right or wrong about this being a political or "diversity" decision, the studious brought this reaction on themselves ...... But either way, as a longtime Marvel fan, who learned to read in the 80's at 5 years old, because I wanted to read these stories about these characters, I will be there opening day, hoping for a great movie
I haven't exactly seen any of Pedro Pascal's movies or TV shows but I have heard he is an amazing actor and I always like to reserve my judgement until I see the film.
He's a good actor he just doesn't look like Reed, and despite what Benny says, that does matter to people. People want the characters on screen to look like how they are depicted in the source, thats just how fans are.

The "negative-reaction-to-casting-we-didn't-want/expect" discussion cycle is tired and played out. People did it to Keaton, even. The older you get, the more you see people do the exact same thing the generation prior did, and you think "it was dumb then, it is still dumb now." The internet just increases the volume and frequency. Just wait for the movie to come out. It could suck, or it could be a really pleasant surprise. There is literally no point in speculating on the quality of any actor's yet-unseen, not-yet-filmed performance based on a still image lol. We don't even have a line-read, or concept blurb about the film's direction. It's just vacuous attention economy BS where we all must have a take on everything, and the loudest take hopes it wins.
tbh Reed Richards appearance in my mind is just a generic scientist dude. It kinda is a blank slate anyone can filled as long as he can act. But in the meantime The Thing and Human Torch are a lot more iconic cliche characters.
Benny, Fantastic Four was doing bad in comics because there wasn't a good run until Jonathan Hickman got on the title. Then, when he got off, people wanted the FF to come back, and the next book that built enthusiasm was under Dan Slott. However, no one is questioning Pascal's acting ability, but for someone who basically called half the population nazis will rub alot of people the wrong way. Not only that, just because he IS a big name in Hollywood doesn't mean he SHOULD get the role. Similar to how the rock is a very big name in Hollywood but every movie he's in, you don't see the character, just the rock. In terms of characters looking like the comic iteration, no one is saying the actor has to look like the counterpart. John Krasinski was a fan casting before it actually came true in MoM. Why? Because he had the look, skill and ability to do so and he's not even as big a star as Pascal. Inclusion policy aside, why wasn't there a list of individuals who were in line to get the role of Reed? Was pascal their only choice? And like you said, he's on multiple projects right now, but is onboard for a long term project with FF which means scheduling for his other projects will start to conflict. My gist: Just cause you have a star on your roster doesn't mean you have to use em for everything. But we'll see the movie soon enough.
Can someone help me find an article or something that mentions John krasinski not wanting to be Mr fantastic outside of the cameo? I’m trying to find it myself and am having trouble
I think Pedro Pascal is a well known actor at this point and one of the most popular currently and that's why he got hired. It's because his face, having in the movie will bring in numbers, people who like Pedro as an actor even if they are not the biggest superhero fan will go see that movie.
he calls them morons for not doing the littlest bit of research but has no clue who Vanessa Kirby is and doesn't know that Ebon Moss-Bachrach was already in the Marvel universe cuz he played Micro in the Punisher.... maybe you should be doing your research Benny Also my issue with Pedro is HE'S IN EVERYTHING!!!! hes the Jai Courtney of today. I'm so oversaturated i'm getting sick of seeing his face everywhere.
Also after the drama with Majors I get why Disney would want someone that has been under contract for a while and has proven himself not to get in trouble. He’s popular and relatively young but old enough to play Reed. What diversity inclusion have to do with this?
Pedro has made his political affiliations known. If it wasn't for that, many people wouldn't have a problem with him. But there's also criticism that his political bias is a cause for preferential treatment where if it were the other side of the isle, he'd be an outcast and not be getting much work. It's all politics. Shitty politics ruining entertainment.
Biggest problem is that it only can ever go one way then it can never go back. If a character became white, male, or heterosexual. 95+% of social media and normal media would lose their minds. I think Pedro will probably do a great job as Reed.
Honestly you can’t use that excuse that “Nobody cares about the F4” cuz look at the Guardians. Nobody knew or cared about them in the comics but Marvel Studios made them icons due to their vision and creativity. So no Marvel doesn’t need to stunt cast for the F4. They could’ve planned a really creative movie for many ppl to enjoy that didn’t need stunt casting. Cuz look at the cast of Guardians, they have good actors but not one of them is like a Tom Cruise level. But not hating the cast so no hate plz
Benny, every time I watch one of these you just cement why I love this channel so much. THIS WAS MY LITERAL ARGUMENT 2 DAYS AGO!! You are 100% correct and Marvel is smart for doing it
Yeah I think you’ve completely lost the argument when you try to make the point that the Fantastic Four NEEDS Pedro to sell it and not the other way around
He was in Kingsman 2 as well. I'm a little disappointed that we won't get John K as Reed but I'm more excite for Pedro, his comedic and serious acting is awesome! I can't wait for the movie.
Just a reminder that a lot of now iconic casting choices were criticized when they were originally announced. Heath Ledger - Joker Chris Evans - Steve Rodgers Daniel Craig - Bond Michael Keaton - Batman I am really looking forward to what pedro brings to the role and the MCU
lmao non like this and heath was a terrible joker just was good enough form normies like yourself also no one hatted on Chris Evans aside from questioning if he could get big enough to play captain America which at like 6'3 and 230 he proved them wrong, but Padro isn't capable of doing any of that.
My problem with the pedro pascal is that he's kinda reached a level of popularity where his likeleness has the potential to take away from reed richards himself. Like, ill reference the Uncharted movie and the recently announced Borderlands movie trailer. Uncharted was just not accurate but the celebrity status of tom holland and mark wahlburg took away even more cause I didnt see nathan drake and sully, but tom holland and mark. The borderlands trailer, kevin heart is specific stands out too much. Im not a big borderlands fan but when I see kevin heart, I dont see his character but him instead. This is extremely prevalent in movies based on previous media, like video game movies or comic book movies. The reason Iron Man or even Captain America worked is because Chris Evans and RDJ while not unknown, but basically defined those careers with those roles. Now anytime I see them in other roles it feels jarring cause I see Iron Man and Captain america. I watch an action movie like triple frontier before knowing who Pedro Pascal was before, didnt bat an eye, but I watched it recently and it feels really jarring now. Its less about the comic book resemblance but rather how their likeleness makes you think of other prominent characters but instead its now put another characters face, it just feels weird. Not saying this should make Pascal unfit for the role but its a clear downside of that casting that does exist. When I see the new Fantastic 4 movie, im not seeing Reed Richards, im instead seeing the Mandalorian or Joel. Characters from other forms of franchised media. I will also note this, there is a different feel when its popular actors from independent forms of Media. Like an actor grows popular through acting through different original forms of Media, seeing them in stories that dont have adaptations outside their respective films, it isnt as bad. But the effect is going strong if you take the face of a already established character who exists in other media. Again, Joel, the mandalorian.
Hispanic Here. Only issue I have is just his age for playing reed. But aside from that I'm ok with him being cast since he is white passing. I just want him to play Reed Richards like they did with Jessica Alba in the other fantastic Four films. I don't want them to put a Hispanic background on reed like they did with Namor. Just have Pedro play Reed is all I am hoping this version does
I think I'm in the minority of preferring them being older, we already got two adaptations of the FF being young, and maybe with these characters we would also get Franklin and Valeria Richards
They literally changed Nick Fury to look like Samuel L. Jackson when he used to look like David Hasselhoff and it worked out pretty well. Good actors will make a role their own especially with good material 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
Chris Evans was a major actor before MCU, same with Scar Jo and obviously Sam Jackson. Other actors were definitely smaller, though. Mark Ruffalo, RDJ as an adult actor, Tom Holland, Tom Hiddleston.
I would have preferred someone younger for Reed Richards (early to mid 30s). That being said, Pedro Pascal definitely has the acting chops to be convincing in the role.
Also dont forget, back in the 90's, before the "internet", we had Wizard magazine... At one point, the dream casting back then was Timothy Dalton as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Howie Long as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Fabio as Thor. They even wanted Mark Harmon as Mr Fantastic/Reed Richards. Don't know how those would've worked out but those actors at the time "looked" the part.
My mom watched the Last of Us Show just because Nick Offerman and Pedro Pascal were going to be in it. He is absolutely the actor you get when you want people in seats. I love the Fantastic Four but sadly most people do not give a single shit about them. Pedro as the leading man is the perfect transfusion of popularity the brand needs.
Honestly, these days, it is never ever the cast of these disney shows, which are the weaknesses, as almost all casted by disney are phenomenal by their own right. It is mainly just the script and how Disney is not able to hire adequate writers, storyboard, directiors, and screenplays to do there jobs, Like yes a big name star, will catch the headline and interest the share holders. But if the people who is creating the vision of the story into reailty, the BTS people doesn't exist, then the shows are just a mess. They have nothing interesting but thier pilot episode, Nothing rooted or strong to pull an audience to continue watching a show after episode 1. Ofc, i am not saying all shows fall short. All had interesting points or narratives or plots, but either they fell short or didn't build it up for tye audience and worst shows makes it feel like we are watching a movie that has been split into multiple parts. Marvel/StarWars shows that has done really well in a show format is Andor and Loki (fully recommend people give them a watch) But ofc not all shows requires an over arching narrative, like some could be the villain of the week type of shows
I like Pedro but I think the thing is they used jim from the office in Dr strange and he was a big fan request, and he is a great actor and has the look and it feels like pascal was only picked cause he's a it actor rn
Pedro wasn't a name for Mister Fantastic I initially would've thought of but looking at promotional images and fan art of him in a Fantastic Four suit I honestly am growing to love the casting. Does it reek of get big name star for superhero project that's failed before? Project but can you blame Marvel? I can't blame Marvel. If this incarnation fails this would be the 3rd version of Fantastic Four that didn't do well or was recieved well or both since 2000. If I were to be Kevin Feige or Matt Shackman I'm gonna be desperate to get people to watch this Fantastic Four and end this loosing streak Fantastic Four has had in theaters for the past like 25 years even if it means getting someone like Pedro Pascal casted as Mister Fantastic
the problem i have with pedro being casted is hes 48 years old and very busy actor. wanted a actor on the young side that would fit and stay in role for the next decade and not only appear in f4 movies in other projects aswell and thats my only worry
As Chilean I can say that Pedro Pascal is the perfect casting. Why? Because of the Future Foundation. That alone makes him the perfect afterall if there one thing we Chileans do better than everyone is pissing everyone off up to the point where we end up taking care of a kid that aint even ours. Look at Pedro, he has done it twice now. 😂😂😂

Guy seems to change looks from story to story, which I never thought much of until just now.
(Then again, when you're constantly inflating into the green giant and back, changes might happen, heh.)
This is indefensible. Why are we letting them cast anyone and everyone just since they're 'popular?' Enough of this nonsense.
That’s just me though

robert Downey Jr was know just any one, which means you are a lot younger than I, when they said he would be Tony Stark, I was like great choice because he looked like the Tony Stark I knew from when I was reading comic books back in the 70's/80s/90s
I didn’t hear any skepticism online about him being Tony Stark lol
I'm sure Kevin Feige declaring the Fantastic Four was "too white" has nothing to do with why fans see him as "diversity hire." 🤔
Ebon Moss-Bachrach was also in The Punisher series as Micro so Ben Grimm will be his 2nd Marvel character outing if I am not mistaken.
You are the man. Have been a fan for a long time but props for telling it like it is. love it Benny.

I definitely agree with this argument.

No word about Samuel L. Jackson not looking anything like the original Nick Fury? 🤣
2:00 To quote a famous chef
"Anyone Can Cook"
The problem with Pedro Pascal is that I've seen almost everything he's done, and I've never seen him portray anything even close to Reed Richards, he's been typecast for many of his roles, including Mandalorian and Last of Us ..... That being said, I'm a fan and I hope he does a great job, but I see nothing in his filmography that tells me he is the right choice
I will say that with actors like JDJ and Chris Evans, they had a history of playing characters or showing character traits that put them in line with the character they were going to play ......
So there is some difference between those 2 examples and Pedro Pascal
In the end I just want a good movie and I hope that the choices that Marvel Studios has made equate to that end result, but at this point, the MCU, both on the big screen and streaming, has gone from being 100% reliable as a source for excellent content, to, for me personally, 50/50 at best, which is I think ultimately the issue for most people and why people now question everything Disney and many of these other studios, do ......
He's very good and tosses himself into roles fully. I love watching him as an actor.
He's a good actor he just doesn't look like Reed, and despite what Benny says, that does matter to people. People want the characters on screen to look like how they are depicted in the source, thats just how fans are.

Pedro literally going to every universe
tbh Reed Richards appearance in my mind is just a generic scientist dude.
It's because his face, having in the movie will bring in numbers, people who like Pedro as an actor even if they are not the biggest superhero fan will go see that movie.
he calls them morons for not doing the littlest bit of research but has no clue who Vanessa Kirby is and doesn't know that Ebon Moss-Bachrach was already in the Marvel universe cuz he played Micro in the Punisher.... maybe you should be doing your research Benny
Also my issue with Pedro is HE'S IN EVERYTHING!!!! hes the Jai Courtney of today. I'm so oversaturated i'm getting sick of seeing his face everywhere.
Kingsmen the golden circle..... Pedro
Also after the drama with Majors I get why Disney would want someone that has been under contract for a while and has proven himself not to get in trouble. He’s popular and relatively young but old enough to play Reed. What diversity inclusion have to do with this?
I just prefer the actors to look like the comic book characters that’s all .
Bruce banner having two actors who dont look like him
Rhodey changing actors
Pedro has made his political affiliations known. If it wasn't for that, many people wouldn't have a problem with him. But there's also criticism that his political bias is a cause for preferential treatment where if it were the other side of the isle, he'd be an outcast and not be getting much work. It's all politics. Shitty politics ruining entertainment.
it it just me or does calling lesser-known actors "nobodies" feel incredibly disrespectful?

I think it's funnier that Microchip is going to be The Thing now. especially since the Netflix shows are being brought back in as Canon to the MCU.
Cottonmouth is gonna be Blade, that one was acceptable at the time case Cannon wasn't agreed yet, but now?.... Oof.

Just have Pedro play Reed is all I am hoping this version does
If nothing else, I hope you're right.
Right
I think I'm in the minority of preferring them being older, we already got two adaptations of the FF being young, and maybe with these characters we would also get Franklin and Valeria Richards
Correction: Namor was Mesoamerican and not Hispanic.
I’m just happy that they finally started working on that movie they promised 3 years ago.
Tom Selleck as Iron Man would have been pretty cool if they did that

They even wanted Mark Harmon as Mr Fantastic/Reed Richards. Don't know how those would've worked out but those actors at the time "looked" the part.

Honestly, these days, it is never ever the cast of these disney shows, which are the weaknesses, as almost all casted by disney are phenomenal by their own right.
It is mainly just the script and how Disney is not able to hire adequate writers, storyboard, directiors, and screenplays to do there jobs,
Like yes a big name star, will catch the headline and interest the share holders.
But if the people who is creating the vision of the story into reailty, the BTS people doesn't exist, then the shows are just a mess.
They have nothing interesting but thier pilot episode,
Nothing rooted or strong to pull an audience to continue watching a show after episode 1.
Ofc, i am not saying all shows fall short.
All had interesting points or narratives or plots, but either they fell short or didn't build it up for tye audience and worst shows makes it feel like we are watching a movie that has been split into multiple parts.
