I don't know why, but Sly 1 is so creepy. Everything from the character designs to the music is so gritty, hard to believe it's for all ages. The mosquitoes from the swamp jumpscared me awake in my dream once. Muggshot was the most intimidating and hardest boss to me
Sly feels much more vulnerable, and the gameworld feels a lot lonelier due to Murray and Bently barely being playable. It's a unique atmosphere and I really enjoy it. For the most part, Sly is on his own. Reaching the getaway van (and his only two friends in the entire game) was always cathartic.
It's 2020 and I'm listening to this while doing homework. Who needs Lo-fi music to study when you got something better that also brings childhood memories.
what i like best about the sly cooper music is how eclectic and anachronistic it sounds, a little bit of jazz, traditional instruments, a dash of hip hop, some 80s synths, it fits how this game is an affectionate collage of all the good parts of 20th century pop culture with none of the bad. That is why it will always be an all time classic, too bad classic mid to big budget character driven games aren't being made anymore, it seems some things actually were better when i was a kid in the 2000's, minus all the bad stuff of course :3.
Just found out Ashif Hakik passed away. Great composer with a lot of my childhood games composed by him. He’s definitely up there with David Wise and Stewart Copeland. Rest In Peace.
Ah my first PS2 game and my favorite! Played and beat evey Sly Cooper game. My childhood! Can't wait for the movie!!!!! PS: BRING KEVIN MILLER BACK FOR THE MOVIE!!!!
you know i never realized how many good battle tracks are in this game, with the 1 hit kill system you would get a bit of the intro of the battle music and then it would be over as you quickly dispatch each other, and then go back to the regular sneaking music, despite some good boss and cop chase music that's always playing, enjoying some of the regular henchmen battle music
RIP Ashif. I only just found out that he passed away in 2021. I agree with most that the scores for 2 & 3 became the staple of the series OST-wise, but the first game just wouldn't be the same without the atmospheric soundtrack that Ashif Hakik created. The hub world theme for episode 3 is simply haunting, and the Police HQ/Hideout theme is one of the best pieces of music in the whole franchise.

I think it's more moody than creepy. Well, except the swamp. That area is pretty creepy.

I hope the rumors of a comeback are true. And if Pixelopus and Sony Pictures Animation are indeed behind it.. I'm sure our Racoon is in good hands.
