This is a cool tutorial. I have used onscreen sliders before, and spent ages setting them up with the wire paremeters, but never heard of this reaction manager before. By the way did a similar animation as with your missiles. The way I got around the problem of detaching the missiles when they fire was this, I didn't detach them. All you have to do is at the point of firing your missile is to put another missile in the same position. As you fire your missile hide the missile which is connected to your rig, and then animate the missile flying out. So basically you never need to detach your missiles, you just hide them using visibility zero.
Thanks Thomas! Yeah I used to use on screen manipulators too. I found they get sloppy quick and lack versatility. The reaction manager is an amazing tool and I've only scratched the surface. Brilliant idea too with adding an extra missile to the rig! Never thought of that, well done. I love online communities and the ability to learn from each other. Cheers mate! :)
