Got the ZF recently and I’ll be selling all my Fuji and one of my leicas. I think that’s what I like about it. It’s FF, can take my M mount glass, great sensor, great AF when needed. Good video when needed. Manual focus is amazing. Really well thought out camera that ticks a lot of boxes. I actually like the colors better than my Fujis. This video is stunning. I have been eyeing the Zf for months and now after watching it I don't want it, I NEED it. You have portrayed the exact reason why film cameras are still sought after... they bring you back to an era where there was emotion and connection with taking the actual picture and then also developing/enlarging it. The tactile experience of a camera has always been important to me and then transitioning to digital I felt like fulfilling the job but with emptiness and lack of joy... the Zf should be fun to use and it is no slouch for the price and specs!

Nostalgia becomes a product, let's not pretend that nikon realised f3 back in the good old days out of love, it was always a product, nothing wrong with that for me
A corporation is incapable of any emotion, but, having owned and cherished an F2 Photomic from ‘74 until it was stolen in a burglary in ’85, I firmly believe that at least some of the designers and engineers who developed the F2 were motivated by something beyond their need for the next paycheck. Love? Very possible, IMHO. Some kind of passion, for sure. 🔥
how you feel about 40 is how i feel about 35. 28 sometimes feels too wide and 40-50 is sometimes (always) too tight and 35 is pretty much perfect compromise :P
The Zf is indeed a VERY good performing camera but even though the camera is heavy that weight unfortunately does not translate into "tank like" as older Nikon's previously had. The bottom plate is a thin plastic that covers a small amount of magnesium that the tripod mount is built into. If you drop it and it lands on the bottom, that plastic will shatter. The top and front plates are a thin soft magnesium and the screws and screw holes strip easily. The brass knobs while very nice are held onto the top plate with thin plastic parts. I know this because I learned the hard way. The heft of the camera comes from all that advanced tech that is inside of it. Not because the body is tough. Even with the questionable build quality the Zf is still and incredible performing power house of a camera. I still love the Zf and plan on eventually buying another one but it is important to know what the Zf is and isn't when it comes to build quality. Yet another high quality narrative driven review GXAce. I always enjoy your videos.
The ZF makes me feel like I’m learning all over again. On dials and switches. Hoping my combo creates the perfect image. It’s the reminder of what photography first was for me
Zf plus voigt speedy glasses is a whole new magic. Ultra fast and ultrasharp brings new depth to low light photography that I guarantee Casey will love seeing his works with voigts x mount f/0.9 glasses
I love my Zf. It provides a different experience than other modern cameras ... especially with adapted vintage lenses to complete the illusion. It's great.
As if I didn't want this camera enough already, GxAce makes it the most appealing bit of kit to be released in years. This video has just cost me thousands 🤣
I'm with you...Nikon SP! I think one of the brilliant things Pixii camera has shown us is that if software engineers with no mechanical RF experience can make a modern rangefinder then there is no reason the big three can't! :-). Let's go Nikon SP digital mechanical rangefinder! :-)
i am a forever nikon addict. when i was selling a million in camera gear a year back in 2014-ish i was asking Nikon to make this camera. my first camera was an FM-10 and I hold my Nikon F / FM / F1 etc dear to me. the design, reliability and hell the nostalgia. but to have a throwback body that can handle most of my old glass (punch in focus for my even older lenses) RED luts with two card slots and the same batteries as my boring DLSR/Zs. this is the one I'm buying as the last mirrorless I'll ever own.
I am very happy with my cheap full frame Canon 5D and 6D combined with the great EF 40/2.8 and some other EF lenses which you can get very cheap now. The colours are gorgeous. This is my Nostalgia setup.
It's a strange thing to think about: product reviews as art. The Zf is an amazingly capable and deeply pleasing camera. But I do feel like it's a little less coherent and reminiscent of the '70s/'80s film camera experience (I started taking pictures in '94 and never stopped using film) than the Fujifilm cameras (the lack of aperture ring lenses being a good example). I agree with this on lots though. I'd never really thought to compare it to the F3 and that makes lots of sense - and makes that grip more appealing than I'd previously thought it.
I feel soo disconnected from my past, like it never really happened and there is no one I am looking forward to seeing in the afterlife. Am I even human. I do have some photographs that stand as testament to my existence.
I didn't need to see this video from my favorite photography channel.. I already kinda regret opting for the X100VI instead of the ZF 😅💔 Nonetheless, fantastic video as always
I use a Zfc as my main body since it's basically the smallest Nikon mirrorless (easily one-handed with smallrig grip and smaller primes) and I love having physical dials instead of digging through menus (plus it looks more unassuming for street imo). While FF and IBIS would be nice to have, I got this for about 1/3 the price of a Zf and have been able to invest much more in lenses which is the standard gear truism (plus a Meike EF-Z speedbooster and some vintage glass), I even got a 300PF and FTZ just for wildlife and no regrets lol... I'm too young for it to evoke "genuine" nostalgia but I just like it at face value on both form and function, it hits the sweet spot for me.
I got mine last December, I'd been looking to get back to an SLR type system for longer lenses, since the eclipse was coming up, and 90mm on a rangefinder wasn't going to do it justice. The Zf was the right features, at the right price, with a lens ecosystem that would do what I needed, though the tactile knobs are definitely a bonus. If I had to choose again today, now that the Z6III has been released, I'd still choose the Zf.
Those wild shots of extreme close-ups on your eyes are very cool. I hate all gear review videos other than these that have actual craft put into the production.
I like to mention that this isn't the first modern retro styled digital camera from Nikon, the ZF's predessor is the Nikon DF from 2013, its a DSLR of course. And Nikon sort of made a digital Nikon SP with the Coolpix P7800 but needless to say it was made more to reach a price than soul and is it a rangefinder if it still uses a EVF? But I wont deny that Mirrorless technology allows Nikon, Fuji and Olympus/OM Systems to achieve a smaller form factor and be more faithful to the design of yester-years. Now only if they can make more of them in silver and Canon to get on board...
Nostalgia sells. Always has and probably always will. In happens in every field. In my world as a musician, Fender and Gibson are marketing cutom shop ‘relics’ of ‘50s and ‘60s strats and Les Pauls etc. Massive mark up for ‘distressing’ the guitars to look old. If you’re over 50, chances are you grew up on these old analogue film Nikons and Canons. Couldn’t afford them in my teens but at this point in life Gen x will tend to have more disposable income allowing them to be a prime marketing target! Great video!
That tiny error in the hardcoded subs @10:31 kinda gives my brain comfort, because everything else is so amazing I almost don’t feel worthy of watching.

Nostalgia sells, at first I thought I was looking at Nikon f3 in the thumbnail.
Great video as always, even though I don't like Nikon gear .... Every GXace video is a visual feast.
And may I add, an emotional one!!!
In 2044 these TH-cam infomercials will be nostalgic. All the others forgotten.
Because the modern world sucks and people are longing for the analog age
Nostalgia sells. Always has and probably always will. In happens in every field. In my world as a musician, Fender and Gibson are marketing cutom shop ‘relics’ of ‘50s and ‘60s strats and Les Pauls etc. Massive mark up for ‘distressing’ the guitars to look old.
If you’re over 50, chances are you grew up on these old analogue film Nikons and Canons. Couldn’t afford them in my teens but at this point in life Gen x will tend to have more disposable income allowing them to be a prime marketing target!
Great video!

Lovely. Thank You for sharing. Greetings from Belgium.
That tiny error in the hardcoded subs @10:31 kinda gives my brain comfort, because everything else is so amazing I almost don’t feel worthy of watching.
