Mark, how have you got the weights? Sorry if already answered! I play xr16 9.5 currently but it just seems to climb to much and was thinking about trying a SZ to bring my launch/spin down. Did u c this when u compared it to yours?
I just went out to the range today after watching this video last night. Mark's "keeping the sternum straight and rotate around it" (paraphrased) was a HUGE improvement for me instantaneously! This is a great channel, James, and your content has helped me improve and enjoy the process...and let me understand how important a coach can be!
James .... please add for Mark at the setup that right arm coming to the grip from inside or BEHIND path so that elbow points away from Mark and his arm pit gets tighter... it's gonna do him real magic for sure ..... ;))))) Love u guys ....
Thankyou Mark for clearly explaining what you worked on and why! I think I'm very similar with the forward sway. Got something clear to work on now! Congrats to you and hope the handicap comes down as a result! 🙂
I'd like to thank you James. In part to you, I went out and played my first round of golf in over a decade, Was at school when I played last, probably 2005-6?. It was with the same set of clubs as back then so most shots were tops but it's what I had and I doubt anyone is renting out clubs so it worked. I enjoyed it and will now look for some new, More fitting clubs
hey keep going man, i am a coach but , i played in high school made states all 4 years, had scholarships, tore my rotator cuff, got hurt again even more seriously at 20. Didn’t play again until 25ish , but barely played maybe once twice a year, and then 2 years ago I decided to start teaching again and it made me want to play again, and i’m also still using the clubs i got in 2006 lol as a freshman in high school 15 years ago, Ping i5 irons , original vokey wedges , ping g5 3 wood lol and a Titleist 907 D2 driver
Really enjoyed this - managed to get my handicap from 28 to 16 in 18 months - massively being held back by consistent drives - perhaps I need James to give me a lesson 👍😉
I only swing about 90-95 mph and the Epic Flash SZ 9º is the longest driver I've played. And plenty accurate. Wouldn't think it would be a good fit for my numbers, but it just works for me.
That’s why I like ping hit a few sky balls no marks left👏👏. Had a TM second tee shot I hit with it on the course sky ball paint clean off looked terrible. TM just said your not meant to hit the ball off that part haven’t been near TM since.
My fitter said, “I don’t know what they did to the Mav SZ, but I’m fitting a lot of guys into it that wouldn’t have been a good fit for Flash SZ or Rogue SZ....”
My best Drive carried 343 Yards up hill I was a lot younger probably 43 ish. I had visited Grand Canaria and took my Clubs. On the Plane I read an article about driving and it was basically about achieving a long low takeaway with a high hand position near the top of the back swing. I was very sceptical as with most Golf articles it was easy to miss translate, maybe down to rushing the read, but having 4 hours to kill I took it all in. Still sceptical on the next morning I took my Driver out to the front of the property and played with it and found it seemed great with the more upright swing the Club was swinging back fast and felt it pulling my arms forward, but would it work with a ball, that was the question. I played a few rounds on the South Course and tried it, it was working although it took a while, and I used to hit the ball well of the Tee most times regularly hitting 270 - 280 Drives, it felt uncomfortable but decided to work with it. I Drove up North to Las Palmas, had only called in once to book a time so had no idea what the Course was like. After about a 2 hour drive across some hilly terrain, I was quite tired when I arrived but had an hour to recover before I teed off. I got down to the Tee and watched a few set off. The 1st was 319 Meters Par 4, it was over a Valley and up hill. Every player was hitting mid irons and anything that caught the up slope trickled back down so locals were not going for the green which was also guarded by Bunkers. It came to my turn and I was paired up with a Spanish guy who looked like George Best with a Beer Belly and hit Lady partner that was stunning and also looked the part, he voiced up loudly “I booked for two people” and was adamant that he was not going to play with me, his shouting caused a lot of attention from the Club House which over looked the Ist Tee and Valley Hole, possibly around 50 people came to see the commotion. The starter waved me onto the Tee, I was getting a little nervous by then and hated playing solo, so it was just me and my non playing Girlfriend to proceed. I decided to just hit Driver knowing I could possibly reach a Green side Bunker if not it would just roll back down the Valley, I teed the Ball up went through my routine and yes it had to happen the Ball fell off the Tee peg just as I was setting up, so back through the routine again. Standing over the ball eventually, my legs felt like jelly but I immediately thought Pete pull yourself together and my only other thought was I didn’t want to top the ball or do something stupid in my swing, so just concentrated on making a smooth swing and making sure I got the Club back to the Ball. I felt really comfortable with my Setup so took a slow long Back Swing and at the top of the Backswing it just felt like I had pulled a trigger and the Club Head was coming back to the Ball and I don’t think I could have stopped it, although it seemed almost like slow motion as I watched the Club Head hit the Ball, it was straight out of the Sweet Spot and the Club felt as if it was trying to drag my arms from my body, I used to have a loose finish with the Club almost wrapped around my Neck, this time the Club was directly out stretched in front of me, as I watched my Ball take off low and rise like a Jumbo Jet and was still rising as it closed up towards the Green and I lost sight of it. This was followed again by commotion around the Tee and Clubhouse Balcony, the Spanish Guy was pacing up and down burbling out some Spanish I recognised a few swear words I had heard in the past, the Starter came over and shook my hand, then we walked down and up to the Green not knowing where my Ball had finished. It turned out that I had not only carried the Green but also the Tall Pines at the back of the Green, possibly I had caught one of the Pines and had knocked it down, so roughly worked out to around the 343 Yard carry. Had a fantastic round my only weakness that day was my putting, I missed 5 really great Birdie chances on the first 9 holes and after joining up with a two ball in front ended up dropping one shot on the front a few more on the back 9 as I was getting tired but still a good round as I didn’t know the Course. Conditions were perfect, no wind the air was warm which helped a lot. The Driver was an off the Peg Mizuno I don’t remember the Model just the colour Blue Would love to get that feeling again and definitely going to try, even though had 15 years away from Golf and now 67
Liking the movement you're going for Mark, no wasted effort, a couple looked slightly mis-timed (end of movement after the ball was hit rather than sync'd perfect) but the i'm guessing you're enjoying the improvement?👍
Had the cobra sz didn't think i would ever find better but then the mavrik came along. Went in for the mavrik sz but ended up with the max which is the sleeping giant in the mavrik range. The rogue msi shaft is the killer for me which gives me low spin bombs and ultra forgiving, best head and shaft combo i have ever gamed for sure.
I put a Ventus Blue in the Mavrik Max with similar results. Low spin shafts in high MOI heads = underrated. The shaft fixes the "problem" with the high MOI head spinning too much & makes for a monster setup.
Mark’s swing looks like his arms are catching up to his body. Wouldn’t he benefit from a little more hip and torso rotation through the hitting area before impact?
I'd like to see you review Caley Irons. They're offering a full set inc. Driver, wood, irons, wedges and putter for £999. No reviews out there but their old stuff (Old Tom clubs) seemed to be reviewed quite well.
First off, kudos Mark. James have you made the transition to virtual lessons? Please understand what I'm trying to say. It is not just the current the pandemic, nor the 2nd run that is predicted to arrive this fall, (Lord, I hope not) just to add into your quill as an instructional professional. Live chats with some of the other fellow instructors, the instructor in Australia, sorry I forget his name, Shields, Dennis, and even that crazy Finch guy 😜 collaborations. Hopefully, this is something to perk your interest, be safe.
Hi James I watch all your videos there fab by the way but I have a question for you .. i currently have a taylormade r11 driver that I bought 2nd hand with a stock stiff shaft 44.5 inches I'm a mid handicapper but feel sometimes when I go for it to hit it long (really go for distance) the head feels like it cant keep up ie open at impact and end up slicing it ive gone and bought a xstiff shaft to try but the shaft is 46inches do you think I'll be better to cut it shorter or leave it at 46 . Many thanks James Steve
Really interesting. I was fitted a week ago for the TS2 Set at 10.5 degrees stiff shaft. Hit it great in the fitting studio. Swing speed 97 mph ( not bad for a 56 year old) spinning between 1900 and 2100. Been out on the course with it twice and all over the place. Any advice
I call that the Sheppard effect. In the studio you have objects in your peripheral vision that help your brain align to target. I overcome it in the beginning of a round by using the putting alignment line on the ball. On the tee i make sure its aimed where i want it, then all i focus on is hitting the ball on that line. Very often, and maybe it's just me, but i find that I'm guided by the tee markers in my periphery and not where i am trying to hit the ball. I played a little rep level cricket in my life, and as a bowler i struggled on the field for the first game or two because I felt like I didn't have the fence from the practice nets in my periphery to guide the delivery direction. Might be complete and utter nonsense, but it works for me, so I hope it helps.
A point I've noticed with Marks swing, when he's indoors, he artificially puts himself into a finish position where he leans into it after he's finished, but on the course swings you shown he doesn't do it, he just swings it normally and finishes where ever. Maybe on course he's swinging a bit more freely? Feels like he needs to look good on camera indoors?
Got the Atmos Blue in my Mizuno ST190 and love it. Dropped spin by around 500 RPM on good strikes according to flight scope over my Fujikura Motore shaft.
"You going to stick with that the rest of the year?" "Yes, yes I think I will ..." "OK then, you owe me $500 for the club, I'll put it on your bill." "WHAT? I thought you lent me the club?" "Mark, this is Yorkshire ....."
