This is true. Back when i was going to in person classes my teacher used to always tell us to smile when we were drilling because so many of us, myself included, were looking so tense. Thank you for the tips, breathing from my mouth i think will be a big help for me.
Thanks for this, I really struggle with how my face looks when I dance. I think it's confidence about being filmed. Some great tips and thanks for your honesty about having a RBF 😉
Thanks Yvonne! All I can say is practise, practise and practise and you will get there. It really is like anything else we do in dance, we need to practise to make sure it looks right AND to get it into our muscle memory. Best of luck! Xx
This is a wonderfully interesting topic. Since I find you fascinating to watch, I never would have thought that you ever had a "resting bitch face". I enjoy your sense of humor as well.
Thank you so much! Indeed it's something I have never practiced never thought I should practice either, thinking that mastering the moves would automatically result in a smile. It doesn't! I remember as a child watching Nadia Comaneci. She mostly looked consecrated and serious, until she started smiling and her gymnastic became magical! I am going to start using your advice on practicing the correct facial features while dancing and learning a choreography, I think your advice to integrate while practicing is a great advice! Thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and insights! I admire you very much! Such a wonderful dancer and teacher!
Thank you so much Maria!! And yes, the face is the one thing that almost nobody practices, but it's so important! As humans, we read faces so well and so instinctively, but as dancers we too often forget about them,! Xx
I am noticing my face more now that I started recording myself with a good camera, and that my face is showing my physical exertion or struggle with the dance way too much. Looked to see what the best dancers in class were doing and sure enough they all were practicing the face and demeaner they want to project when performing, which added another aspect in which they looked much better at dancing than I. Have tried a few times now to work on it but it's hard to keep focusing on it in the midst of other demands.
You are a true gem! Thank you for freely giving!❤
