When I worked for another company, we had a Bedford Rascal, which I used to palm steer all the time. This came to a head one day, when I palmed a right hand bend, wheel slipped out palm, mounted the verge, then as I re-gained hold, span it across the road, through a fence and nose dived into a field. A lorry pulled me out, and I carried on with my day. My wife now tells me off for palming the wheel

Shame about Fifth Gear... When Tiff was ousted my enthusiasm for the show waned considerably. Now that Jonny has left there's really no reason for me to tune in.

the best thing about cars not being eligible for the London to Brighton is that they end up racing in the VSCC (Vintage Sports Car Club) which is some of the best racing ive ever seen. and the most friendly pit lane ive ever had the pleasure of wandering around (they will happily bore you to death with their cars, in the most fantastic way)... i think they do a round at the Goodwood Revivial, but its amazing to see proper hard racing in cars that should be sat in a museum. PS i recon Brian Blessed would be well up for it. even when he's dead.
The Ransomes mower was called a 'motor triple'. Some mowers have rear castor wheels and are steered by braking each front wheels, so will turn on its own tyre footprint.

You say that you could fill the loft of a house with sheep's wool for about 85 quid. I'm doing that now (not literally!) but it's costing a lot more than that, so someone is fleecing me somewhere..
I always think people who have passed are still alive and am amazed that people who I'm convinced are long dead are still with us.... 40 years ago, Brian Cant looked middle aged so they can't live forever!
The problem with this podcast is I keep trying to join in the conversation, to suggest Brians Lara and Trubshaw (the latter, deceased). Or to compare palming notes, or point out that I too have a Rab down jacket. No one has ever done anything rude to my office chair though. Next time, please can you come round to my house to record? I have some egg boxes.
I was considering watching this new 5th gear to fill a top gear shaped new car hole, but all electric won't do for me, no point seeing a string of cars likely never available in my country and Johnny shows off all the cool stuff anyway, pity for them
Ratings have been sliding for years - and EVs are definitely on a roll. New ICE cars are going to be rarer by the year so who is going to run out of material first? Hint - there's a new EV brand every week and petrol is £1.50/L. Most cars are boring AF and always have been. Look at the Top Gear formula - get three idiots to do idiotic shit - it was fun for a while but it's been a comedy show for years - fine if the comics are good, not so much if they're incoherent buffoons. Top/Fifth Gear are bankrupt franchises - time to put them out of their misery until someone thinks up a new way to package them - like Clarkson did before kicking the arse out of it.

talking on fifth gear I don't understand making the new series electric vehicles only, the ratings have always been rocky so has the series coming back, so I can't see limiting the vehicles on the show as doing anything other than turning more viewers away

Fifth gear is in a weird space at the moment. The decision to get rid of Tiff was dreadful, he was the ‘natural leader’ of the show. The even stranger decision to feature Ronnie O’Sullivan who had nothing half decent to say was a complete failure. Now the decision to just go purely EV is even worse. The presenters are good but are held back by production in my view. Rory makes better content with auto trader! Jonny has jumped ship at the right time, the late break show is streets ahead of fifth gear. It’s a shame about FG I absolutely loved the show

One of my best mountainbiking memories was overtaking three veteran cars as they cranked up Clayton Hill on the London to Brighton run.
