We’re so lucky to have Marv Albert, Mike Breen, and Kevin Harlan as the primary commentators for national primetime games. Those three never disappoint when they’re on the call.
Him retiring just makes me appreciate guys like Mike Breen and Kevin Harlan more than I already do, because we never know how much longer those guys will be there
Marv Albert will be forever remembered , to me, as someone who didn’t need a catchphrase for him to be great. But a simple word or the way he said a word made him legendary. YES! FROM WAY DOWNTOWN! LEBRON JAMES! AND THE FOUL! Nobody will ever be as great or good or even close to him. I hope they build a shrine for him at every NBA stadium.
I’m a 90s kid and I think the tell tale for how iconic he was is every kid from that era practicing buzzer shots to marv’s voice in their heads on the concrete. 3, 2, 1, yes! I can only imagine how he was to the eras before me.
The great Marv Albert, he was a great play by play commentator. I’m glad we still have Kevin Harlen and Mike Breen but Marv Albert was one of a kind, won’t feel the same in the playoffs
I'm going to miss hearing Marv Albert cause he was the soundtrack on NBA basketball in the 90s during the Michael Jordan Era and a terrific NFL announcer on NBC
Marv was actually one of the very few network announcers to cover all 4 major sports leagues when he was with NBC. He called NFL and NBA games, called the NHL All-Star game when NBC had it from 1990-94, and was the pregame host for their MLB coverage in the 1980s. He was also their boxing announcer back when fights were on regular network TV.
Marv Albert was my childhood days for the NBA on NBC- famous words- “YES,” FACIAL SERVED UP,” YES AND IT COUNTS.” Just a perfect example of what NBA Commentating should be.
Marv Albert is actually a Naismith Hall of Famer in the last 55 years. He made an iconic call in Regular Season including the Western and Eastern Conference Finals.
Marv Albert will always be the golden G.O.A.T. voice of the league & I grew up with him from his glory days of the magnificent 12 year run of the NBA ON NBC as a kid from 1992 then throughout the early mid 2000's at TNT, an absolute legend & now he is retiring after 55 years on 7/03/21. We'll greatly miss him but all of us fanatics will always remember his catchphrases, wit & enthusiasm for the game of basketball. - Yes!!! - - It Counts & the Foul!!! - - It's been Rejected!!! - - Able to Extend!!! - - Serving up a Facial!!! - - For the Win.... Yes!!! - - From Way Downtown!!! - - Oh, A Spectacular Move!!! - - Able to Stuff!!! - - At the Buzzer!!! -
I've been following the NBA for a long time since 2008 and the first time I took notice of Marv Albert is through NBA Live. We were very fortunate to have him, Mike Breen and Kevin Harlan as the primary commentators for NBA national TV games and they never disappoint us at all. Marv is one of my favorite commentator of all-time and I can also impersonate his iconic voice but kinda slightly and one of the reason along with Kobe Bryant as to why where I am today. I can't even imagine what will be the NBA look like without hearing the voice of Marv Albert but I'm sure it will be just fine as Brian Anderson is still there although for him to live up in the same shoes as Marv. I wish Marv the very best in his retirement.
These Legendary Commentators is what Makes the Game Great, Mike Breen (NBA) Mike Emrick (NHL), Jim Nantz (NFL and NCAA). Marv Albert is another one of those commentators that 20 years from now you still remember that play and the exact sound of that play. We will miss him but We thank him for Making the Game of Basketball So much better ❤️
Marv Albert lend his voice of play by play broadcasting along with the Czar Mike Fratello in the E.A Sports video game series of NBA live 2004 but no all star weekend mode, you get that in 05 & 06 with Erine Johnson & Kenny The Jet Smith then Greg Anthony took over for him in 07, 08 & 09 for the slam dunk contest, 3 point shootout, the rookie vs sophomore and the all star game and Steve Kerr lend his voice from 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 2k12, 13, 14 & 15. Then Mike Breen & Jeff Van Gundy took over in live 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18. Ed Cohen & Jay Williams lend their voice of broadcasting to live 19.
“Marv Albert’s voice is basically my voice” -Kevin Harlan I’m always mistaken with these two legends. Kevin Harlan sounds very much the same with Marv Albert.
