The guy who directed both anime the comments were talking about was Shinji Takamatsu, but you had him confused for Gorilla-sensei who only did the Gintama manga.

Yeah it's things like these that I wish I could be translated better to those who don't understand it. The Japanese language is very poetic and they use it a lot but sadly does't get translated well.

So when he saw the girls carrying a plate of noodles, he made a pun by saying those girls are those type of girls that go for the looks (in terms of men/boys thus none of them are picking up any girls). The kanji that was on the screen was noodle, which is to inform the (Japanese) audience of the pun he made, that they were suckers for noodles (love noodles). Thus he get slapped in the face by the other guy.
That VA will forever be known as Kyon to me. When Gintama started airing I remember going "OMG ITS KYON!". Though I will admit Gin sans voice is probably much more ingrained with his voice than Kyons. Edit: Also you guys would love Sket Dance! It's basically Gintama if it were in school more so than this show.
