- It turns out there are some good parts to Loki along with all the typical random marvel bullshit, who knew?
Heyyo, I'm back after another two semesters of college and holy shit I wrote this video in August of last year hoping to the gods that I'd get the chance to release it before going to college. At the very least I'd hoped to get editing done over a break but nope, just missed the mark.
I really do wish I'd been able to keep up with the content throughout the school year- it was so annoying to leave the channel hanging just after hitting a thousand subscribers -but as it turns out I was a little less-than-prepared for the workload after having taken a gap year, and it just absolutely creamed me.
That said, I learned a lot over this last semester, and I got the chance to study a lot of different topics that I think tie in wonderfully with the content I make on this channel, so I'm very excited to be back and working on stuff! Something I'm surprised you didn't mention was the offer He Who Remained made to Loki and Sylvie - which was to just replace him, and thus take control of the system for themselves. Essentially the dilemma presented to the pair was to either attempt to reform the system from the helm, or blow it up completely (must. resist. urge. to. make. Pale. comparison.). Keeping in line with sensible character arcs, an understandably resentful Sylvie makes that decision for everyone and prevents the Loki's from conquering all creation and becoming "the man" (because then who will they rage against?), but as it ties into the overall metaphors of conformity and fascism I can't see a world in which what Sylvie did was the "good" answer - and it's why the final teaser has me so excited for how season 2 will respond to it. *But*, I do think it's a shame we didn't get more time to consider what a TVA under the helm of our protagonistic pair could have looked like. Can they institute real change from that position? What pushback would they get? How do you try to define which timelines/variants still need to be excised from existing? I think seeing our gods of mischief actually need to live up to their title and wear the weight of responsibility is a disappointing missed opportunity.... but one I'm probably glad we avoided while Disney is calling the shots.
(Also - speaking of "it's depressing that this network can create media in which they're clearly the baddies" - Upload is a cute little show about the way increasingly "convenient" technology is corrupting our ability to connect as humans and is shifting the balance of power further into the hands of the ultra-wealthy, and you can find it on..... Amazon Prime.)
