Possibly. The UP owns the former SP route along I-10 and the classification yard in Colton. At the time this was shot, the UP's only route into Southern California was following the I-15 into Barstow and sharing trackage rights with what was the ATSF.
Also of note, and a good catch, is the train with 847 leading. The last unit in the consist has two radiator fans making it an SD39. These were a very rare catch in any mainline consist in '93.
Not sure, but UP has two routes into California: one following (roughly) I-80 through Donner's Pass and another following I-40 through Cajon Summit. Maybe they favor the northern entrance?
I have been through Barstow several times in the last few years on the way to Vegas, but I haven't seen many trains on the UP. Maybe one train every time I go through there. Does the UP favor another route these days? Mike in Fresno, Ca.
Were all those Santa Fe F45's and SD 45's on the dead track awaiting disposition way back then? The reason I ask is two years later, those locomotives began showing up with the "Santa Fe" painted out on the sides, more than a year before the BNSF merger was finalized. Sad to see them go. You're correct. I looked at the clip and the last one is a GP20 Gator. Sharp eye! Glad you enjoyed the video.
The titles say August 21, 1993. This is per the camcorder's date stamp. Glad you liked the video.

The train with 7414, the last two units are a GP30 and GP20. CF7s were gone I believe in '87.

Great video
Wow, that last consist basically sums up the progression of turbocharged diesel locomotive horsepower in a nutshell!
+StarWarsTrains Yes, that is one of my favorites. Glad you liked the video.
Very nice clip! Jugging by the abundance of second gen power and standard cabs, I would have said this clip was several years old. When was it taken?

@coxsj The footage was originally shot on August 21, 1993. But I edited this movie this August. So it's been eighteen years.
when is this filmed? Great video!

+Michael Morgan Good question. Probably awaiting maintenance, as ATSF used that power extensively at the time. But I don't know for sure.
CF7's gone in '84 or ''87.
