The primary purpose of building this port city is to use it as a sufficient breakwater for 3 new terminals to be built according to the Colombo Port Expansion Project. The total area is 269 hectares and is divided into two parts, infrastructure and commercial. According to the terms of this project, the entire land is to be constructed at the company's own expense and Sri Lanka will not have to bear any cost. (BOT Project) Your repeated claims that this project will be built with Chinese loans is a lie. But in Sri Lanka there was a big protest at the beginning of the Port City project. The opposition led by Ranil Wickramasinghe opposed it on the grounds that the portion of land given to the Chinese construction company under the previous Rajapaksa government was given as freehold. Later, the Wickramasinghe government that came to power changed the land to a 99-year lease basis. But due to a year's delay in the negotiations, the government had to give the Chinese construction company a few more hectares instead of the expected amount for the economic loss. And you have to begrudgingly admit that Chinese companies have held the world's major construction monopoly for years. The tender for the construction of the Colombo Port City has been won by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), a Chinese company based in Singapore. The company is a subsidiary of China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC). (I regret to remind you that this construction could have been taken up by competitive tendering by Indian construction companies and then you could have proudly called it India's port city or the 29th state if you like)
