Regarding the idle cut off lever I was wondering: can you lift the throttle far enough at for example 50% movement and then move the lifted throttle all the way to cut off position, this effectively bypasses the need for the lever? Just to make sure I really understand the lift/notch/lever mechanism.
Nope. The exact purpose of the lever is to prevent shutting down the engine in flight. To go cutoff you have to depress the lever so the throttle lifts enough to go past the idle point. The lever actually pull a pin that prevents the throttle to be lifted fully. What you describe is happening at the AB gate, there you just lift the throttle a bit and enter the AB range. So the throttle rotates up a bit I'd say 15-20° for the AB gate, but the cutoff gate is greater and the pin prevents the throttle to be lifted to the required 40-50°.

Then lift the throttle to 40 or 50 degrees angle, because there is no notch to hold the pin from the lever halfway mil power. 3. Move the lifted throttle back all the way to the cutoff position. If this doesn't make sense please forgive me :). But I have a spare cougar throttle which I want to modify myself and it needs to be done correctly. Apparently, getting access to viperpits.org forums seems impossible, because I have never received confirmation to my email address so I seek other means of getting information about the F16 throttle.
@@slamraamprod You can't lift the throttle to 40°-50° up anywhere on the throttle course unless you use the lever. without using the lever, the throttle will lift just enough to pass the AB gate. If you have a closer look at the throttle guide rail, you will see that the idle/cutoff notch is deeper than the Ab notch, that implies the angular difference between gate and cutoff. You just can't go past that idle/cutoff notch without depressing the lever, and that's on purpose. Pilots yank this throttle brutally (it's milspec after all :) ) and you don't want a pilot inadvertently shutting down the engine in flight because he was a bit too brutal with the throttle :)

So the lever pin locks in the throttle arm, then I understand the mechanics? I was thinking the pin locks in the rail notch.
