Thank goodness! Finally a collection that is stylish and unique... Two characteristics that went completely missing in almost all the 2015 collections.

Possibly my favourite Valentino show of recent years (besides the Fall Winter 2014/2015 show). A different direction with pieces and combinations that remind me of Dries Van Noten, yet there's a strong African vibe and undertone to everything, from the models' hair to use of cowrie and periwinkle shells in jewellery, brass sculpture detailing, traditional woven motifs and geometric patterns, waist beads, sandals, leather, animal prints, raffia, cave paintings...
Most times when African roots inspire collections, it usually doesn't translate so seamlessly and often ends up forced/unoriginal. Here there's an undeniable element of Valentino with the styling being remarkably similar to earlier collections, yet all these other elements shine through to make it equally unique.
And anyone who can make a spring/summer collection have so many dark clothes without falling flat wins multiple stars in my book.
Just brilliant.

this show was absolutely perfect
African "tribal" elements - particularly Maasai - usually go amiss when interpreted by Westerners, at least when it comes to making them wearable outside of the runway or a themed event. But Valentino nailed the wearable - and saleable across age groups - tribal frock category with S/S 2016 reminding us that even a fringed high-neck sleevless sweater appears to be influenced by African jewelry.

If I had the money I'd buy a lot from this collection. It's true fashion, inspiring.
Byzantine, African and Greek references with bones, with great texture, mix of pattern including the tie dye with textures. Luxurious ethnic shapes with silks and animal prints. I like the amazonian imagery. Easy to wear and comfortable apparel.

Woah, Valentino should've used WAY more models of color for this show!!! The white/white passing models should've had a different hairstyle...maybe a French braid, slicked back pony, or wavey up-do. Braids and dreads are protective hairstyles that have caused people of color to be looked down upon by white folk for years. So to make the hairstyle "fashionable and luxurious" for white folk is a slap in the face. Some of the clothing is gorgeous, the hair is just a big bummer :/

quite frankly as much as this was a good collection, definitely and improvement on the haute couture, I still have to admit that
I miss the original aesthetic element of Ludovico's strong modern woman. In some way this falls a bit short. Refer to RTW ss 2007 then compare to this.... the feel just isn't the same and I miss that glam element which made Valentino, Valentino!

Pure African Chic.
Stunning and truly elegant, but there's a certain lack of 'joy' in the pieces(unlike D&G) and I DO wish some of the models didnt look as if someone had snatched their sweeties.
I saw a strength in all the models, like island serenity.... I want this look, i want the braids, and i want to remake the clothes for myself like im in the valentino tribe lol.
I bet the models hated getting cornrows for the first time.
