As a bricklayer myself, I can't understand how they think that pointing the wall with a stronger mix will strengthen the house. Pointing can only be done to a maximum depth of 15mm. As a brick is 100mm deep, pointing the wall will not solve the problem.
There should be a law that the homeowners have the right to reject the property and the builders buy it back at bought price plus compensation for all costs
As a bricklayer I can't believe that they are using weak mortar. I have always done a 3 in 1 mix myself. Pointing the brickwork is a waste of time as this is a depth of 15mm the brick is 102 mm depth then you have got a cavity then the block work for the inner skin. A repair is impossible All the best Mustafa
We bought a TW house new and sold it two years later. It was so soulless although we didn't notice any problems with it. Good luck to the new buyers though..
She has spent £16k wow…u could have taken the brickwork skin down & rebuilt it with correct mortar strength for that i bet….i used to be a bricklayer in the 80’s the labourer would mix the mortar. With a large cement mixer it used to be a 50kg bag of cement & fill it up with sand….in this day & age with ready mix mortar it shouldn’t be an issue…and the bricky commenting earlier is bang on repointing the house makes zero difference….if it’s a brick skin on a timber framed house it’s fixable if you have internal block work it’s not fixable…
Taylor Wimpey seems like the biggest scam in UK. People should be aware that If Taylor Wimpey is involved in the any estate transaction they should run. I own the flat which has a cladding problem and once more we still don't know if TW will cover the cost of replacing the cladding. It's disgrace that UK government allows for the companies like this to even exist and make money using innocence of people
me and my wife bought a TaylorWimpy house . my son and daughter in law bought a taylorwimpy house and have had nothing but problems in both homes. and In fact quite a lot of the new builds on the estate are and have had major problems . and these are still on going . in my experience I would never buy a new build home ever again . it’s not just bricks and mortar . it’s windows doors floors . it’s central heating it’s plaster boards . you name it we’ve seen it this is no joke. I don’t know how they can justify selling these homes at the prices they do . we had nothing but stress. it’s a joke . they stick signs up giving themselves a five star rating . dream on
Same builder is literally throwing up new builds here in Manchester, and funny enough, I work for a builder that does external work to houses. I'm shocked at what I find when working on a relatively new house. The biggest thing are gaps. Gaps under the window sills, gaps between the render and facias and gaps under patio doors. These homes are supposed to be environmentally built but I can imagine in winter with a howling wind, these homes will be draughty, cold and letting out heat. The building inspectors must be blind not to see any of this.
If you have just paid hundreds of thousands of pounds for a new Taylor WImpey house you would expect issues to be fixed without ANY song and dance. Not debated, argued over, lawyers letter sent etc. Just fix the issue, make the customer happy on the 1st request for assistance. If you ever have any trouble with home builders not assisting just repeat your issue daily on their own social media site - they will then suddenly pretend to care.
Query. I have sold my late brother's house - ie transferring it via the Land Registry, filling in appropriate forms - now have been told Leasehold needs to be transferred. Not sure of this, thought houses were freehold and flats/apartments Leasehold. Anyone can put me right?
They have had the same cement problem on a brand new estate near me and have started removing the cement on some houses and in some places knocking down and rebuilding walls. Who checks the quality of work when these places are being built?
I have awful drains from morris homes. my house still has no building regulation compliance nearly 3 years later and my drains have to be cleaned every week. morrishomes.uk
Jesus..... I used to be a labourer on a Taylor whimpey site.... I used to handle deliveries and general dogs body's jobs around the site.... But looking back alot of shit used to go on on that site, builders rwcing to get as much done as possible as they was on a "pay for what you get done" type basis.... Joiners was stealing yard equipmentfor there own jobs, sure manager was offering to fight half the staff on the car park 😂 such an unprofessional outfit
NOW FIND OUT WHO THE CONTRACT BUILDERS ? FIND OUT WHO SUPPLIED THE MATERIALS , WHO GAVE THE OK FOR THE WEAK MIX OF MORTAR CEMENT ETC, WHO SAFETY AND QUALITY INSPECTED THE BUILDING DURING CONSTRUCTION, WHO SIGNED OFF THE QUALITY AND BUILDINGS . SEEK NAMES, SEEK COMPANIES, WHO EMPLOYED , WHO CONTRACTED, AND SUE EVERY ONE OF THEM. THEN SUE THE DEVELOPER, AND THE WHOEVER WITHING LOCAL AUTHORITY . FIND ALL THOSE RESPONSIBLE. HEADS SHOULD ROLL FOR THIS DISGRACE,
Buy some land with permission to build , gain aproval , build your own. Do due dilligence, dump the cowboys. other wise buy something built in the 20s or thirties and renovate.
Simple rule - avoid new builds with a barge pole. Covid has exacerbated the nature of cost cutting both in the quality of materials and competency of the subcontractors which developers are using. Combine this with a backlog/rush to finish off new build estates fast and without proper quality assurance.

I no you won’t be able to see what’s going on behind the new pointed part until it falls down lol

This is why we should move to a self build model like Austria, USA and Ireland where over 75% of houses are built by individuals not big builders

I’m not a bricklayer, but a DIY er , and why you say is spot on .
If you think build quality couldn't get any worse then you would be in for a shock when you see the new particle formed joists they are now using.

No apology for the threatening letter trying to call the poor home owners bluff though? Funny that.

problem is there is not one single medium/large builder you can't find horror stories for.

New builds have always been shit covid is nothing to do with it
So it's down to the mortar manufacturer
