Dr. Paul, I absolutely agree with your estimation: anyone who can afford a 2nd home worth more than $2M can *certainly* afford their own home insurance!!!
The point missed is there are no other methods of insurance. The industry doesn't provide it without a government program. So while it's ridiculous that a mutlimillionaire gets an insurance plan backed by the government, it's also the same program that helps people like those in N Carolina...because there is no legislative plan otherwise except that which is coming in the next congressional session.
Don't be fooled but his aw shucks country boy demeanor. Kennedy is really a rino at heart who voted for sending more money to Ukraine and who is against Bobby Kennedy becoming head of DHHS. Mostly he likes to hear himself talk in these hearings that accomplish nothing.
@@laurabobovich5724 I'll give you that but it would be better for us all if he went into stand up comedy instead of being a senator who is against the America first agenda.
You know what's truly embarrassing? It's when John Kennedy waxes poetic about his love for Nicolas Cage or Hollyweird! It's time for him to go. I stand with Paul.
@keithstone7881 No, I don't begrudge anybody of that. And I've enjoyed his movies as well. However, this is a Senator who is having a bromance with Nicolas Cage on the house floor. We just went through an election, of every actor actress and singer that threw themselves at the Democratic Party. They can pay for their own way. Not so the little guy. There's got to be a limit.
When i heard Pauls arguments i was completely with him. Then when i heard Kennedys i was like damn you have a great point.i went look up homes in LA and i saw some horrrible houses for a million. Houses that was probably passed down and just went up with the market. I think Paul and Kennedy should meet in the middle and raise the drop the limit to around 10 or 20 million
@@notd0ll109 wow do you say that about farmers who own hundreds of acres of land? Who literally are subsidized by the government. Look around there’s farmer bumkin boys driving 80k GMC trucks. Is that middle class?
I don't think Matt Damon, Phil Cillins and the like want to give up government insurance. I wish the govetnment would help the folks in the Carolinas! God bless Senator John Kennedy!
Kennedy is correct about two things. 1) they aren't given insurance, they buy insurance and only part of the rate is subsidized. This is because the insurance industry refuses to offer flood insurance to anyone without it. There is no "non subsidized" plans, so there really isn't any other options. 2) there are people who are legacy owners where the values of their homes increased over $500k or even over $1million who bought their homes much cheaper but are now caught up in rising home values. Paul also makes a good point about people with 2nd homes or those who are multimillionaires. In the end I would have to agree with Kennedy that the plan continue even with it's flaws until congress and the senate can address the gaps in the next session, which IS actually on the agenda with legislation already being proposed. I believe this is where Paul and Kennedy can actually find the common ground. People forget the legislative process is supposed to work this way.
There is nothing “poetic “ about this. You should listen/watch full exchange. Rand Paul was trying to get people with homes over 500k and or second/vacation homes eliminated from cheap government flood insurance, Kennedy refused(he could have passed the bill) then Rand offered homes over 2million and 2nd/vacation homes, Kennedy still refused to pass the bill! At this point I have absolutely no respect for Kennedy, it’s extremely evident he cares way more for his rich friends/buddies than the everyday working class that is struggling to pay their premiums for flood insurance but because of the guidelines in place now, our tax dollars go to subsidize government flood insurance that the rich take advantage of on a regular basis.
A first home valued at 5 million or more and a second(or additional)home valued at anything over 2 million should be disqualified from the subsidized insurance.
Id say if your house is worth more than 200,000 you can afford your own insurance. If you can't, buy a smaller home. If you cant afford flood insurance, stop building on the coast line were everyone wishes they still had access to camp or swimp without having to drive 50 miles only to pay. Better yet make it illegal to build residential homes on the coast so everyone has access once again. I guarantee people will be happier to enjoy a wilderness coast including the animals who are no longer living, because they got hit trying to get to their favorite drinking hole. Or just stopped living of thirst.
Q: Why would the federal government make multi-millionaires eligible for cheap government insurance? A: It's simple-Lobbyists. Lobbyists run the country's economy politicians just go along for the ride
Usually like J not F K. But him turning down Paul’s edit because he’s for government funding for risky second homes as passive/retirement income, shows me he’s not as solid as I thought. Looks like he lost weight recently though.

I'm a Democrat and fully agree 💯
That’s great, now there’s people who NEED this insurance who don’t have it… people making 30-50k a year
Limit subsidies for people with 2 house, on houses over 2 million. Completely unreasonable according to Kennedy. Get these people out of office!!!
It's not that simple. There are no unsubsidized plans available due to the insurance industries refusal to provide coverage without them.
Nobody gives a damn about celebrities, if they can afford a 42 million dollar home they can afford the insurance.
The point missed is there are no other methods of insurance. The industry doesn't provide it without a government program. What about Schifty Schift? Which would it apply to, his main residence in MD or his CA house?

He acts in decent movies though? I’m not a fan of what transpires in Hollywood either, but that doesn’t mean somebody can’t enjoy a movie.

So regular poor or middle class people own 9 million dollar homes and should have their insurance subsidized by the government?
You’re a clown.

People that are rich enough to afford multi-million dollar houses do not buy insurance - they do not need insurance. They self-insure.

Sad to see that such an intelligent man as John Kennedy likes Nicholas Cage, a dreadful actor.

I saw Kennedy first talking about this a couple of year's ago and it showed me then as it does now he's really more democrat than conservative.
