I went to the Norm MacDonald and Jon Lovitz show at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi in the early 2000's I believe. It was a new year's eve show. We paid for the show, but most of the audience were comped gamblers. After the show Norm and Jon hung out on stage chatting and signing autographs. I will never forget talking to Norm afterwards, and I actually made him laugh (genuine laugh, I felt). This is my crowning life achievement. This has to be the show that Lovitz is referring to.

Most of us crave the human connection of understanding. Norm was a private, authentic person who transcended that need. His politics were definitely not mine, but I respect his individualism, which was catastrophic for his career. His (male) peers loved him. He was rich in friends.

I had an app, shows you two cards and you swipe, 2 new cards, you try to count as fast as you can, then push a button and tell you the count. I was getting pretty good.
Sit down at the casino, people talking, the first second you break concentration it's over. Also, I had huge 18 count so I make big bet, I get dealt 15 and dealer gets 21 lol

I've been in a lot of those type of casino events for high tier players. Gambled for a living most of my life. Wish I was I was there to watch Norm stick it to those snobs. I watched those sore losers insult a few performers, just out of anger from losing. I unleashed my anger at casino management and gaming Commissions when gamblers were taking advantage of. Much more appropriate. Although i did injure my hand a few times. That steel slot machine was unforgiving.

Funny stuff! I dealt blackjack for years. Card counters make it too easy to spot them. They bet small for 9 bets in a row, then suddenly bet big. Busted! That gets their attention right away. You do that a few times and win each time you bet big and you are lucky if they don't take you to security and beat the hell out of you. They don't like counters! And the thing is, counting doesn't give you the edge at all. It just lowers the house's edge. If you use the force instead of counting, you will win and not be caught. And as stupid as that sounds, it works. You just have to know how to get the feel of how the deck is working. I have hit a 14 when the dealer showed a 6. But I knew the dealer's down card was a 4 or 5, so I had to hit. And that was the force, not counting. And I ended up getting a 6, the dealer had the 5 under there for 11, and he ended up busting. Had I not taken the card, he would have won with my 6. Instead, he got a 2 then a 10. Busted. The table won. That was not counting, but being aware of the flow of the deck, tipping the dealer, and chatting with the dealer. If the dealer likes you, they won't go after you. They won't ever cheat. But they will shuffle up and change the flow of the deck if they want to or are told to.
