I have a version 4 Loricraft.
It does a great job cleaning records.
As per the instructions that come with the machine, the cleaning fluid needs to soak the record for five minutes before it is vacuumed up. It takes me about 15 minutes to clean a record. The long soaking time is needed to get older dirty records clean. I do a distilled water rinse cycle after cleaning the record.
It’s some effort but relaxing to me if not in a rush.

Enjoyed that video thanks Michael. I’ve had to return an Impex pressing to seller ( Patricia Barber Cafe Blue), as there was a fair amount of light crackle even after cleaning with a wet vacuum cleaner ( IPA 20: 75 deionised water : 5 surfactant).
Seller claims to have now cleaned it and its now OK. Meanwhile i ordered a replacement from a different seller although serial number was close to the other one and there was still some crackle but I will live with it. So what exactly causes these audible clicks and what is the best way to remove them ? I’ve found this issue on brand new vinyl before so if its surface contamination it shouldn’t take much to shift it , or is it something else ? It shouldn’t be static as the vinyl is placed into anti static liners on these expensive audiophile releases. 🤔. Looking for enlightenment
I have two Norman Petty 12" records, one is "Moonbeams" - a fun listen and obviously very well recorded.
HiFi Buys in Atlanta sells the Enzymatic cleaning fluids, in fact the entire line by that manufacturer. They also sell RCM's, but not this specific model.
I used a Keith Monks machine to clean my Beatles EP boxed Set in 1982, and what an amazing difference it made. Still sad I was not able to buy the device then, but I was only 18!

I used to have a Loricraft years back and loved it! The difference it made in both new and old vinyl was astounding. However, now as I get back into vinyl I see the newer ultrasonic units and wonder if they have not set a new standard. So which is better? Which produces the superior result?
CrustyCurmudgeon I think a combination of the two is probably best. To do an enzyme step first on a vacuum machine, losening all that old stuck on material and getting off most of the heavy debris. Drying is fast and then ultrasonic deep clean and rinse.
If you had to choose only one then ultrasonic usually does better but remember that a lot is in the fluid and the steps you take. Multiple step processes will always be superior, which is why record cleaning services are a valid option in the market to get best results withought spending 10 grand first.

I use mine every day! I won’t bother with velvet lips...
I usually have fluids in a small squeeze bottle with an adjustable squirt nozzle set to stream. So if the brush is dry to start it takes about 3 squirts on a side. If the brush is juiced up it only takes one squirt per side. It works for me to have a consistent amount of fluid per side.
where do you even buy one? They have a website but you have to email someone to order them and they sent me to another guy for a US dealer and he said he doesn't import them anymore.... I couldn't even get a price out of anyone haha. That was like 2 years ago though i haven't tried again recently.
Cleaning your record collection must be like painting the San Francisco suspension bridge.

Normally just on purchase, I use a Vac-O-Rec to hoover off dust and remove static in between plauys
Does that unit continuously pull fresh string out as it traverses the record or does the string stay stationary until you pull out a fresh section?

Personally, I’d rather listen to records than be an amateur chemist or physicist. But to each their own.
Using distilled water? So last century. Currently, I'm using droplets collected from perspiring Himalayan mountain goats, then sanctified by the Dalai Lama himself.
It would be helpful to play these records before and after cleaning.

And while you're collecting brushes, for all the 78s people, get separate brushes for shellac records. Shellac compounds contain abrasives that would grind steel needles down to the shape of the groove. You don't want that stuff in your vinyl (or styrene or lacquer) discs.

I use the Audio Desk machine with dual osmosis water (and AD cleaning fluid good for 80/100 LPs).

If there’s no mold release compound , why should new records have to be vacuum cleaned?
Other contaminants can land on new records, pressing plants are pretty dirty places with a lot of machines operating so a lot of chances of dirt and other stuff making it into the grooves.
It does depend on the processing plant for sure. But the mold release compound what that actually is as they spray it on the Press mold so when they press a record the record doesn't stick to the mold. I work in Plastics pretty much my entire life and we use mold release compound so the parts don't stick to mold. Aka press. That's what most people are referring to. Not what's already in the plastic but the spray they use to make sure the records that are fresh don't stick to the mold. Blah blah blah blah blah

I've heard that too..but haven't tried..
They work very well. Cheap, easy to use, easy to clean, and I've never had one leave a scratch. Also, quite durable, as I've been using the same one for months with my homemade RCM. I've cleaned 500+ records and the pad still looks new.
Why not just wipe down the platter with a clean cloth after the ‘dirty’ side has touched it? Seems like a simple way to have a clean platter each time.
Some machines like VPI's have cork mats. Not practical there.

If you want to see a record actually being cleaned my video shows it. Cleaning machines are a waste of money. All the videos on TH-cam just show people talking about it but not actually doing the cleaning.
