What level of ignorance is this? All names have spiritual meanings even English names, or you people think other races do not have cultures? Biblical names come from the Jewish culture not English! and the Jewish culture is one of the most spiritual in the world, apart from being biblical names, have you looked at deeper meaning of those names?
A biblical name like Miriam means ‘mistress of the sea’, do you know the spiritual meaning of being a mistress of the sea? Very bad. How about Deborah which means ‘bee’, Tamar means ‘palm tree’.
What happened to great names like Jasiri, Imani, Amani?
Give your children cultural identity through their names, you dont have to name them after dead relatives.
My parents did not give me African names and that upsets me to date. I grew up in America where cultural identity is a big deal and I got tired of being asked why I do not have African names or if my parents had inferiority complex about their culture. It may sound cool but it's not, when the child grows up and has to deal with questions about something he/she never chose to begin with. Lastly, no matter what you name them, they will never identify or belong to cultures outside their own.
