Thanks for the video. I have a Brother P-Touch QL-1050. The crafty buggers must have started gluing the end on. I used a small straight screwdriver after trying to muscle it over and over. It finally popped off, but I could see where it was either glued or fused on the end. Anyway, SUCCESS! Did I mention that you are awesome? It works great!

  • @drfunktopus
    @drfunktopus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Excellent! Had trouble popping the end off - it had been glued as other commenters had mentioned. Used a small pair of needle-nose pliers to get a good grip and leverage on the end piece and it came right off with little effort.

Many thanks. I bought a box with the carriages, however the next lot will be rolls :-) I found it easy to break the seal by placing the smaller side in a vice and working the cylinder free that way. Once you break the seal of glue, it falls out easy.

Much appreciation this video but clearly unbelievable with BROTHER for this happening. I still can't get it apart, why in the world would this even be happening to switch your label paper. I am beyond pissed right now, either gonna break it trying cause either way I have no way of using my label printer for my business due to not being able to get it apart. Other people's comments have helped to say it is glued. This BROTHER product is beyond ridiculous

SOO helpful! Mine had glue at the bottom of the spool as well. I used a small screwdriver with a hammer to make indentions all the way around the main spool which seemed to loosen up the glue. I was then able to pop off the end.

Much better and easier. Getting the base off was a bit a struggle for me, couldn't get it off with my hands so I applied so WD40 to it and it snapped right off. Very cool. Thanks for the information. Tried this today. My two spare plastic spindles are glued together tightly. However, my two spare rolls and the one currently in my printer are reusable and the plastic spindles popped apart with no problem. I went to Amazon to look at the DK-2205s (by Betckey) and found two options - one with 10 rolls and two reusable spindle units and the other with 10 rolls each having its own single-use spindle unit. I will be hanging onto my reusable spindle units and purchasing refills with the reusable spindles as well.

Thanks so much for making this video. I kept trying to pry at the wrong end when I bought a box of 2000 labels that were incompatible with my printer. It was past the return date, and I didn't want to throw them away. Then I tried to roll them onto the old spool and that took for ever and it still didn't work! The end of mine was also glued on (bought printer in 2021), but all it took was a precision screw driver wedged into the bottom and work your way around the cylinder you'll see it start to come up a bit. It took maybe 2 minutes!

I was really confused about watching a couple of you cut the roll off or use water to get the roll off. I did not need to do this. I skipped that step, and just applied some pressure and took the end off with my hands, and then changed the roll once I noticed that's all you did to disassemble it once the roll was off.
I'd suggest everyone skip the useless steps and just take the end off and change the roll. 💃
    Good luck.

I’ve heard from other viewers that the Brother Label rolls have changed a few times since this video was made several years ago. I have also seen one video where the guy turned the bottom of the end of the roll holder outward as he pulled and it popped right off. Some say theirs is glued, others say theirs is pressed in. Some say it pulls right off, others couldn’t get it at all. Too bad Brother just doesn’t make it easier for people. Regardless, I enjoy hearing updates from people and advice that can help others.
      Thanks again!

Have you looked carefully everywhere to make sure there is nothing obstructing the labels path? Maybe like a small piece of label jammed in somewhere? I just had a similar issue with a receipt printer. The paper wouldn’t feed through and was crumpling up at the end. I knew it was jammed, but couldn’t see anything. After a few minutes with a flashlight I found the issue and that’s exactly what it was. If you can’t figure it out after a day or so just make a short video with your problem. Sure someone can help you out and I would definitely be willing to take a look.

When he said very quietly under his breath that it isn't as easy to pry off because he had already previously done it, that is a massive understatement I have been pulling with all of my might sort of not breaking it and it will not come off. Wish there was more details of what it was like the first time to get it off. Appreciate the video though but that small little nugget of info that was said very quietly and fast LOL falls into the category of the small print where the devil resides LOL. Brother should be ashamed for purposely designing something so difficult to take apart. I'm not an engineer but I can look at this design and see many different ways to make this so that it isn't difficult. They most likely want you to buy the whole replacement part every time.

I just got mine couple days ago. I literally just put a bit of hair oil on it waited 5 mins and pulled hard came right off. Someone else in the comments said they used vegetable oil, wd-40 so use any type of oil, wait and pull.

Did you get it apart? Try using warm/hot water when soaking the roll. Thanks for your comment.

Here is a tutorial on using Brother p-Touch Editor free software to create label templates, in case it helps someone.

I have a QL700 and find the software frustrating to use on my PC. But it has great functionality, in theory, you can print labels in bulk from a CSV spreadsheet. Think mailing labels for Christmas Cards, or mail merge.

Works well but you dont need to do any dipping it in water first or trying to remove the cardboard tube. If you think about it, the side pulls right off after hes messed about removing the tube, so why bother, just pull that side off first, and slip the tube off. Worked for me.

Thanks for the pointer. Sure it could work either way, but the reason I dip it in the water first and remove the cardboard is so that I can get a better grip on both ends of the cylinder. Hope that helps. Have a great day

Could be hot water or oil helps to weaken the glue?

@njp But he's showing a Brother cartridge in this video, it must be possible to separate the pieces without breaking or ungluing them?
Hopefully I can figure it out in the next 90 seconds as I need to print labels and get to the Post Office.

Sorry for not replying sooner and for the difficulty with your attempt. Did you ever get it open? I think using warm/hot water helps a lot. Thanks for sharing.

I knew there had to be a trick, I spent 10.00 on a new cartridge but I have 2 printers. By the way get a tripod, it will make for better videos.

I’ve been wanting to get a label printer for my small business for the longest time and finally pulled the trigger. I’m glad I did ! This machine is great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxw55tQTywUAAOsbrlwxONZULry77sFF1Q and the blue/green color matches the rest of the accents in my office. My favorite part is how small the footprint is. It’s less than 1/4 the size of my regular printer.Set up was fairly easy. Seller will email you a link with video instructions Which I found to be more helpful than the written instructions. I use a Mac and had no issues. They even included an adaptor for USB to USB-c which is great because I’m always losing mine! I had a few issues getting the labels to print properly and wasted quite a few sheets. You need to play around with the settings to get everything adjusted just right. If you have the wrong settings, it’ll crop off the edges or feed through blank labels. These aren’t issues with the machine though, just user error.

Why don't you use your DIY skills to make a holder for your camera, freeing up your other hand for much better videos

Haha that’s actually pretty funny and true. The video is admittedly terrible and hard to watch. It’s from 2016 and one of my first videos. I can’t believe it still gets views and never expected it to get so many. I now have a nice tripod and the quality of my videos is now much better. Please check them out if you have a chance. New content will be coming in the next few days. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Thanks again and have a great day!
