You can't take a bad image with the K1000. Oh sure you can have poor composure, stuff-up the metering, neglect to clean the lens or forget to set the ASA / ISO. Fabulous cameras.

Nice video and B&W pictures, but I would prefer the KM and KX anytime over the K1000. The smc Pentax 1:2/50 mm is not the best standard lens, I would prefer the 1:1.8/55 or 1:2/55.
Thank you and thanks for checking it out. To be fair, the KM and KX are both more "advanced/feature-rich" than the K1000, so in terms of specs, would be superior, but essentially less basic. I am currently testing the F2 on digital, and in terms of coatings it is decent, sharpness too, for what is essentially the cheapest kit lens. The 55mm F1.8 and 1.2 are by definition more advanced lenses and not really comparable to the basic F2, but true, the 1.2 is amazing. I love the M42 Tak 55mm F1.8 too.
I am currently on a fascinating journey rediscovering my Pentax gear I started with in 1991…the 55 f/1,8 is one of them.
I am really getting into the K mount lenses in general - even other brands. There are some real winners out there for lityle money. Have a CPC 28-70 that is actually amazing!

What do the KX / KM cameras offer that the K-1000 does not?
Sorry for late reply. Self-timer, Depth of field preview, slightly different prism focusinf systems, among othersl things, auto/aperture priority. Very little useful in my opinion!
Danie what is your take on Tri-X 400?
I used it many many moons ago. I had more experience with T-Max, with its flat grain that fives smooth results. What I remember of Tri-X was high contrast.
