- FTC Chair Lina Khan joins 'Squawk Box' to discuss the agency's decision to ban noncompete clauses for U.S. workers, lawsuits by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business groups challenging the new rules, impact of the ban on businesses and workers, limitations of the noncompete ban, and more.
Lina Khan ( and her staff) are performing a great service for the citizens of our country and the world. Noncompete clauses stifle competition which stifles innovation1 Keep it up Ms. Khan!
finally a win for her
So what if you make over $150k but you have no policy making decision? Basically courts will be filled with these cases
@@esragray1653is this not a step in the right direction? As of now, you still have to go to court to dispute the non-compete. Am I missing something?
@@penname4764 You haven't been paying attention I take it.
Lina Khan is a hero. Congrats to 30 million Americans who are about to be emancipated from employer bullying.🎉
Emancipation?
@@KK-pm7ud when you’re employer no longer gets to act like they own you. Yes that’s the word
@@seth_sesu You must have scored poorly in English class.

@@seth_sesu explain how a non compete vs and employer bullying go hand in hand?
FTC Chair Lina Khan is a hero.
Good work Ms. Khan. 👏 Keep up the good fight against the overly aggressive entities like Amazon and Walmart and Health Care monopolies! American average folks APPRECIATE You & Your staff. So refreshing to see a govt agency Actually doing their job! Thanks!
I just started a new job. During the negotiation, they wanted to include a non-conpete that basically covered the entire state. I pointed out the hypocrisy that are recruiting me from a competing company, and if they wanted me they would not include a non-compete. They conceded that. I am probably one of the few people in my company not bound by this non compete. I am glad that this new ruling bans future non-competes. I don't want to work with people who are only there because they have to be there.
I support and will obey Lina Khan forever!
My Knowledge belongs to me. 30 years in the same field. This is a good thing.
Thank God…. Companies having employees/ contractors signing was/is ridiculous…. I was going to work for a company but their non compete agreement was so ridiculous I couldn’t do it.
😣 ... why did you HAVE to mention that guy for? ... 😩
@@LumenMichaelOne I know God sucks sometimes.
She just restored my faith in good future, thank you!
Great job chairman Lina Khan! Thank you to everyone who wrote in during the “public comment” period! I can finally escape my abuser
Big Business dont trust their own employees...thats no bueno.
Go Chairman Khan!
A noncompete is illegal, not this law
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 to Chair Khan
This makes more sense for the economy. You should be rejected from a job because of a more qualifying candidate not because you are handcuffed to your previous job.
Of course big business mobsters don't like this rule. Screw em.
The nerve of some of these employers. She is 100 percent right on everything.
It’s employment at will. How about if company fires you and holds you to non compete
Thank you, FTC chair Khan❤
Wow the government decided to do something right for its people that's that's a new one😅
I am in agreement. Non-compete is similar to monopolizing talents in one company. A company will be too big to care and too big to fail, which will lead to executives misbehave with monetary.
American tax payers end up paying. We could use more businesses and new ideas. Competition is always good for consumers and economy. A lake is stale limiting water, river is always flowing bring in freshness.
Damn she’s good!!! 👏🏼🙌🏼
We need this in Europe now!
Supportive ftc fcc technologies of foreign exchange studies and contracts throughout establishments have been the denial in majority of systems
Good for competition
Remember whose side business is on with regard to suing the FTC: The United States Chamber of Commerce is a business association advocacy group. It is the largest lobbying group in the United States. The group was founded in April 1912 out of local chambers of commerce at the urging of President William Howard Taft and his Secretary of Commerce and Labor Charles Nagel.
can't businesses hash customer names to prevent knowledge of said customers to the unwanted? if u aint in the know then you only can see the hash of a customer and not their name...just a thought
Non compete clause is restriction of freedom.
There can't be any non compete in free market and in a free country !
"robbing people of their economic liberty also robs them of all sorts of other freedoms."
Lina Khan for President 2028 🇺🇸
Damn read the headline wrong, thought it said Non Completes (Fail to Deliver), oh well.
Those pro non-compete are essentially admitting: we can only keep good employees handcuffed...
It’s nonesense and gives too much power to the business imo, it puts a leash around employees and stops competition
You would NEVER EVER see that out of a Republican administration.
Typical CNBC rhetoric, acting as if wages going up would be a bad inflationary thing. What's inflationary is the price gouging by the monopolies/oligopolies they protect.
Yeah I mean if we have been running at high inflation for several years, what’s wrong with wages going up. Nothing unless you are the employer
There is a reason non competes exist. I feel like removing any sort of non competes for future contracts have to coincide with agreements where any process or information pertaining to the company have to go hand in hand no?
She’s the only reason I’d vote for Biden
Why only any new contracts???? This is bs!!!
It covers existing contracts too, pay attention
She's 100% right.
I don’t believe this will work out as intended. It will help newer younger workers and in jobs where there is no trade secret knowledge and there is zero reason for a non compete. But just as it opens up vulnerabilities and competition for businesses it will do the same to workers-especially older workers and knowledge workers. It will create a stronger divide between select upper management and everyone else. Skilled workers are already treated like disposable commodities. In response to this businesses will adapt and restructure and further isolate worker positions so it’s easier to replace you with someone younger and cheaper, or eliminate the position with automation. Long term consequences for this will not be what people think, because businesses will adapt and it will be with people competing with you for your job sourced globally and for less than they are paying you. It will be a wash win for business. I believe it will be upheld by the Supreme Court and if it is, you can bank on it that it’s because they think it will have the long term effect of depressing wages overall and that’s what they want. Both parties blame lower middle class workers for inflation and think wage suppression is the best way. This is not for you or your workers rights. It’s a Trojan horse for globalists and wage suppression theory.
Slurpies ? Thats mean frozen treats company is mean
Waiting to see if this is somehow another way to screw over the regular people
Thanks for the biden administration.

🤔 Lina Khan 2028??? 🤔
good riddance, the fact that something called "NON COMPETE" existed in Capitalistic Country doesn't make any sense
there are reasons that non competes exist
Perhaps one of the most dangerous people in America.
One who thinks they know what is best and enforces it top down.
Bunch of employees here in the comments
Hah! Talk about pack pedalling!
If your giving access to your companies secrets, then I feel a "Non-compete" clause is necessary!
Isn’t that what an NDA is for? If the employee leaves but can’t talk about secrets they learned what’s the harm? Your argument makes no sense. Just pay them more and treat them better and they will not want to leave!
@@pageek3487I am convinced people are willfully ignorant on the difference of these documents.
If you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're", then I feel commenting on complicated legal issues is beyond your capabilities.
Everyone says Lina and the FTC is right until they are on the other end of their IP/Business being wrecked because someone stole your idea and maybe they have more capital to bring it to market. The burden of proof will be on the person whose idea is stolen to prove it even though it may be next to impossible. Instead of eliminating it completely, why not reduce the time it is in place and create a system where the reach is reduced? This requires a middle ground solution.
That’s what NDAs cover. IP is still covered. Does no one understand these different documents?
@@merrytunes8697they do they are just using weak arguments. In reality they are gonna lose their most talented workers because they aren’t willing to pay them what they are worth.
Cheered by all the people who never owned a business including Lina the Khan.
You should be in favor of competition. We don't live in caste system. You aren't guaranteed success. If you can't compete, then your competition will provide more efficient business. That's what capitalism is
who force you to go into business ?
If you own the kind of business that makes its employees want to go work somewhere else, you are the problem. Well-run business can retain employees without fearmongering tactics like non-compete agreements.
If you have to use a non compete to keep your employees trapped, then you don’t deserve to be their employer:/ Maybe make the effort to to take care of your employees better?
@@Nimbusdrifters Exactly! A non-compete agreement protecting the health of your business is like a prenup agreement protecting the "health" of your marriage.
The Executive Branch does not have a compelling interest in this private contract matter. This will eventually be struck down by the courts. The constitution does not explicitly provide for this sweeping power.
Correct !!!!!
The definition of fairness is not: "did you agree?" Non-competes are not capitalist and they are antithetical to a system of free labor. We are not supposed to be in bondage to the company that we work for. They're called non-competes for a reason. They stifle competition
The Constitution didn't forsee TH-cam either
Agreed.
Why are you against it?
That’s stupid. What she enticing people to do is to get a job at a major company. Learn the secrets quit, and then immediately start a business using the information they got from them. As she doesn’t see that as a problem.
NDAs haven’t been removed. Stop conflating the legal documents.
That is not how reality works.
No that’s not how it works. Intellectual property law and NDAs still exist.
She is enticing companies to pay their employees higher wages so that they don't quit and start their own business with the expertise that they have gained over the decades.
@@mklite by getting rid of non-competes, employees can get start those businesses. Non-competes PREVENT employees from COMPETING in every meaning of the word. Stop spreading disinformation
