    I talked to some guys from known metal bands many years ago that talked about using a capo for recording challenging solo material by retuning the guitar based on where they intended to install the capo, which was high up on the frets, getting amazingly low action and being able to play that material while needing much less finger dexterity to do it on the much smaller frets everything was coordinated for.

      @JonDeth that’s a really cool idea! I totally understand why they would want super low action for fast metal solos with lots of distortion and gain. Do you know if they were retuning to make up for intonation issues high up the neck or were they using alternate tunings for the solos?

    I play the G chord same as you do. Always have. No time now to watch the full video. I'm sure it will be very helpful. Perhaps tomorrow I can. Thank you for posting!

      @michaeld.nichols9588 hey, I’m glad you play the G chord the same way! I think it opens up so many doors, especially for playing solo and accompanying yourself. I’d love to hear what you think when you watch that one too.

      @michaeld.nichols9588 this Saturday 7/6 at 8pm Eastern I’m going to have a livestream concert to honor my sister-in-law Laurie who passed away on Friday. I’ll be playing lots of classic rock, blues-rock, old country, and some more of Laurie’s favorites. You’ll see me playing the G chord “our” way quite a bit! I really hope you can join and help honor her life and energetic spirit. Here’s the event link - you will get notified when it starts when you subscribe to my channel and/or hit “like” on the video.

    Capos definitely are not cheating, they are so useful. Never thought of using one for lead guitar though, so cool.

    What do you think about cut capos?

      @RichlandCommunity funny, I was going to use one in the video but I thought that would be going too far for a single video lol. Do you use them?

      @RichlandCommunity the funny thing is I have one but I never use it lol. I just broke it out the other day after I saw your comment and I’m starting to play around with it now.

    Capos are cheating, slide is a gimmick. These are things guys that don’t play any instruments say. You know like when they say Thorogood is a one hit wonder

    uh…great, John, but it’s pronounced “CAH-po,” and not “KAA-po”

    • @johnsguitarlounge

      @chrispage2782 I have never heard it pronounced that way lol. I grew up in NY. Where are you from? Maybe it’s a regional thing.

    • @chrispage2782

      It’s a historical thing. 99.9% pronounce it wrong . Never mind. Pronounce it however you want.

    • @johnsguitarlounge

      If that’s how virtually everyone pronounces it, how can it be wrong?

    • @chrispage2782

      because 99.99% of the people aren’t aware of the etymology of the word. Nor do they care. But there IS a right way and a wrong way

      Some people say “toe-may-toe” and some people say “toe-mah-toe.” It doesn’t mean one or the other is incorrect.
