I have a 2012 Countryman All4 - dim 3rd brake light syndrome - re-soldered the diode connections on the pcb strip that has all the LEDs on it (it unclips out of the red reflector strip once you've unscrewed it from the panel). With someone pressing the brake pedal...put a small flat head screw driver under the diode and gently lift or shift it from side to side. You'll know when it connects as the bank of LEDs is blinding. The diode is the black resistor-like component with a single stripe at one end - the other components with colored stripes on are resistors..about three in all, but there is only one diode. Thank you to whoever posted that a dry joint on the Diode could be the cause.
Hey I have a 2012 jcw and my 3rd brake light was out. It looks like they cost $40 online. I found a bad 4007 diode inside the clear plastic part on the circuit board.. I replaced it, which is probably a 3cent part. It works great now. Hopefully this can help someone else if they are having an issue like this. The diode probably will not physically look bad, it's just bad internally. Thanks for the vid mini, subbed.

Thanks for the video, just replaced the brake light on a 2012 Cooper and your video helped ensure it was only a 5 minute job. :)

nice
Hi, same problem, do the same replace because I also beleive in repairing :)
Excellent video, especially to pull out the third light cover, rather than pry it out, otherwise, you may damage the clips
great video man, will be changing my 3rd light soon
