lol...I have to crack up each time I see Nelson playing. It's like coming across a lost boot-leg copy of the late Andrew Bourdain blowin' sax! Rangell has such a clean and pure sound.
I've got to ask, how the hell did you recreate the instrumental so close to the real deal? I've never heard a recreation of the instrumental so faithful - absolutely blew me away!
I produced this track. Did a research on what synths were used, watched interviews of Steve Porcaro / Toto. The main deal was obtaining the original multitrack of the song and individually tuning each "transcribed" sound to original one (like tuning the Linn drum machine sounds, or CS80 pads). Steve Lukather's guitar part was transcribed and played in the new key (this version is a step down from the original). After instrumentation was sitting right it was time to mix, finding similar reverbs, pans, etc.. Turned out pretty well )

This is the very reason I play the Alto sax. Nelson Rangell and David Sanborn are the best.

Song is actually by Toto. Steve Porcaro wrote this. Toto did much of the music and was essentially the house band for the Thriller album
