Love this, Denise!!! My favorite part of the high-kicks is always how "we" entered and exited the field. Pure perfection and precision, in spite of the weather!!! Thank you for this. I love all the background talk analyzing. :)
Just wanted to find a video of Emily in the Rangerettes. It wasn't until you zoomed in right on her that I realized who posted this video. HA! She's fantastic.
It’s is the Kilgore College Rangerettes. It is a Junior College in Kilgore, Texas. The drill team was the first drill team of its type when the first director wanted a sport for the girls at the college to participate in. It’s a fascinating story. The young women today still have to hit the rim of their hat when high kicking.
A bit of a background on jr college: A junior college is for high school graduates and offers the first two years of courses( freshmen and sophomores) to transfer to a university or 4-year college to obtain a bachelors degree. Some junior colleges also offer vocational training instead of degrees. Junior colleges are also called community colleges. Most of the girls in this video would be about 18-20 years old, but people of all ages attend junior/community colleges.
It is so incredibly impressive to see those girls standing there completely motionless. Such dedication to detail and style!

"Make me Smile" by Chicago
Is this cheerleading; an activity, performance, sport in its own right; both or neither?
It’s kinda cheerleading but more of performance arts dancing, and a texas tradition
I’m not American, so could somebody tell me what this exactly is? Is this a high school thing or something from university?
