    Amazing video, I'm hoping on going to camp next year. What organisation did you use to go to camp as there are many different ones and how did u find them ? Also what was the situation at your camp with using hair dryers and straighteners etc ? Finally what date was your departure for CA as I'm hoping to travel before hand? x

    • @RobynWilson
      @RobynWilson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joanne Phillips I used camp America, I have a video on the application process that might help you! You can bring hair dryers or straighteners if you want but there isn’t much point as no one cares too much about what you look like and you’ll end up with messy hair at the end of the day anyway 🤣 In my experience camps usually start with training week in late May/early June ☺️x

    When you plan to travel around America, did you use the visa the camp gave you, or do you have to apply for an ESTA? Also, what date did you arrive at camp and what date you left? (I know dates and times change, but it helps me plan ahead) 😊
    Hope to hear from you! :)

    hey! i’m thinking of doing camp america when in 2 years and i’m not sure which company to go with as i’ve researched a lot and found a few different company’s, which one did you go with? Do a lot of people go alone because no one I know wants to go with me and I still want to do it but I’m worried that most people go in groups so it’s hard to get to know new people. I also want to go once I finish sixth form and I’m nervous that I won’t meet anyone my age.

    • @RobynWilson
      @RobynWilson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t know anyone who’s gone with someone they know, it’s actually almost impossible to get a job at a camp with your friend unless you know someone at a camp so honestly it’s best to go by yourself and meet new people! Everyone makes friends with everyone it doesn’t matter about age! Just be yourself and be confident!! One of my best friends from camp is like 7 years old than me so you’ll be fine!!!

  • @mizfeng1442
    @mizfeng1442 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    if you’re still answering questions i was wondering what you put down when listing your skill set? you might be in a completely different situation to me and have lots of developed skills but in my situation i have small amounts of information in lots of subjects but not enough to feel comfortable fully teaching or advising someone. i maybe feel comfortable enough to lead an activity in 1 skill ☹️ is this a dealbreaker for them or not? i‘d much rather i was able to get involved in lots of activities instead of being set to do one main thing for the whole of the stay :)

    • @ewilson9650
      @ewilson9650 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have general experience in a lot of things, that actually is a pretty good thing. I just got placed and I put down like 12 skills, and it was mostly stuff I had general/intermediate skill in. As you say, you wanna get involved in lots of activities, so that means you’ll probably get hired as a general counsellor, so you’ll follow the kids to all their activities and help supervise them while the activity specialist actually teaches them. Certainly not a dealbreaker,
      Hope that helps 😁

    • @RobynWilson
      @RobynWilson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not a deal breaker at all! Just put down anything you have interest/experience in, even if it’s not loads of experience that’s fine! As a camp counsellor you’ll probably change activities regularly anyway, at least that’s what it was like at my camp 😋😋

    • @jesspaige4540
      @jesspaige4540 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know your comment is super old now but I just wanted to add that I was in the exact same boat it felt like everyone I watched had some sort of specific thing like they were currently studying or studied, music and arts and media for example being a big one, or had done babysitting where as I only had very broad experience in a range of things just hobbies over the years and casual looking after family, nothing professional and I was placed on my 2nd offer! I got told I had a really strong application and was one of the first 10 people to be placed in the company I used out of hundreds! Basically just whatever you have talk it up and blab on about it, add lots of details and you will be fine (: if you don’t have much hobbies/skill things as long as you can say something about working with kids like baby sitting, mine was literally just mentoring younger people at jobs and looking after siblings, you will be placed as a general councillor, oddly enough out of what I put down I got selected/asked for what I least expected, I just included how much I have travelled to tropical destinations and done alot of snorkelling and paddle boarding all that, and that I lived by the beach for the summer last year in Bondi here in Australia and literally just talked about all my water activities and how much I love swimming and being outdoors and I was placed as a lifeguard specialist out on the lake at my camp (: they put you through a course at the camp or you can choose to do one at home if you prefer, so yeah do not stress at all!! I felt the same way and was super nervous about not being placed at all due to lack of experience, even tho the company I used was fully refundable if you don’t get placed but I’m pretty sure they told me they’ve never had someone not be placed, I think the actual company Camp America has a guaranteed placement I heard as well, but they are really just looking more for personality wise someone who will put themselves out there and have a go and has good work ethic and personality, hope that helps if you haven’t yet applied!

    • @RobynWilson

      Rebecca Clark I cant speak for all camps but I’m almost 100% certain it won’t be a problem😊 I know there were a few counsellors that couldn’t swim at my camp and it really wasn’t an issue at all, if you’re worried about it maybe you could ask the camps about it when you have your skype interview with them ☺️😙
