Dude, nailed it. If yo want to be skinny and weak ("skinny fat") train like a distance runner...If you want to be explosive, lean, AND improve endurance, train like a sprinter. Just look at pics of the two different athletes to see the difference.
After I throw a bullpen/game, my high school program has a whole schedule of running and stretching after. There are more sprints than jogging. We condition for 3-5 days after throwing. Right now during pre-season we just run 2 miles after throwing a bullpen. Great video!
Starting pitchers-long distance Builds stamina to pitch longer. Run at least 20 min. Helps get the dead blood out of the arm. Relief pitches- sprints Definitely mix it up though. My two cents.
Nick Fry, when a pitchers throws the blood rushes to the hand, I'm still trying to fallow in my Dad's foot steps and get a PHD in Baseball, lol, my Dad was a pro. I've been doing pitching lessons w him for 20+ years. To expound on the "dead blood", my guess to take it a step forward would be w the rush of the blood to the end of the are it would get trapped in the capillaries and blood vessels in the arm, then add the lactic acid Coach Madden briefly brought up, that's how a pitcher get a sore arm, goes through "dead arm" periods and needs to run to flush out the blood. Dead blood can deprived of oxygen as well.
Dylan Brusstar I would like to add that I believe after running, you should firmly press and massage the inside of your elbow. I feel it really helps flush all the junk out of your arm.
Drew Windisch your talking about going from a 40 some foot mound to a sixty right? I would say just make sure you have plenty of practice before pitching a game. long toss is good. it's just something you get used to. also it does depend on your size, I see some middle school kids that are too small to be pitching on a full size mound. last thing, you don't want to over do it your first year moving up, you have plenty of years to come.
I don't? I feel like I've answered a few of them. Perhaps elaborate on this question more to give me more material to work with. I really appreciate you always commenting though. You're the man! Thanks man!
YouGoPro thanks coach Madden, I'm sorry about that. I'll get better questions. Can you please do a video on "How to adjust to different pitchers speed, slow vs fast when batting" I'll appreciate if you did this. Today we had a game and I had a hard time because the pitcher pitched slow, I was so out in front rolling the ball over to 3rd base, it was hard ground balls but I was too early. How could I adjust within an at bat to gather myself from a fast pitcher to a slower pitcher (I.e a pitcher who throws 70s and to someone who only throws 50-60s

Yessir! LMAO @ skinny fat!
I usually run a 1.5 mile after my workouts. Plus I am the faster sprinter in my baseball team. Thanks coach.

Nice
Many young pitchers mistake good or "normal" soreness for an elbow injury. Running usually fixes the issue.....
I agree there are some softies out there lol
great vid. I'll definitely put it to use.
Thanks!
another great video coach do you have any balk videos? thanks
Thanks. I do not. Sorry.

Christopher Jackson, good Idea, that's a kind of Rolfing or deep tissue massage.
hey can u do video on how to pitch from a distance you were pitching from to a longer distance? if so I would rly appreciate it
I'm not sure I understand your question.
Drew Windisch In order to be prepared for bigger fields you need to increase your arm strength

Jake Bardenhagen thx I'm in middle school and I know I'm gonna make my middle school team and I just need to throw 60 thx man
Drew Windisch yeah. it's not too big a deal making the switch, biggest thing and I cannot stress it more, make sure you don't over do it. good luck
Do long-distance runs help endurance?
i sprint more than what i jog
why don't you ever do videos on my questions
how to be better balanced on the mound and plate
