The Mighty Ducks had a scene that was at school. They get into a big fight at school when Karp makes fun of Charlie over his mom and Coach Bombay. When the principal comes in the team "Quacks" her, resulting in detention for the entire team. Coach Bombay comes to the school while they're in detention, writing on the chalk board "I will not quack at the principal". He gives them a pep talk, ending with Coach Bombay saying that he will try to get them out of detention.
4:36 Um, there’s a pretty unforgettable scene where the entire team gets detention for quacking at their teacher, you dope. Literally one of the most important parts of the first movie.
So I'm a Texan and I'm the hockey kid in my grade so while watching a science film in class a commercial about game changers came up and it said "I don't like hockey and I don't like kids " and EVERYONE LOOKED AT ME
Should've worried less about puns and more about fact checking 1. They showed them in school in the original movie 2. Koob doesn't bury himself in his phone because his parents don't see his games. They shoehorned that plot line in the finale with his parents not showing up. He was introverted like his parents and didn't play till the other kids brought him out and pulled him away from his phone 3. There was romance between the kids in the original obviously... Connie and Guy! It was unspoken but it was obviously there
There was alot of nostalgia in the 10 episodes. In the 1st episode hes eating old cake, as in the 1st movie he was cold a cake eater. When Bombay was facing the ncaa about being able to coach and Alex came as a pretend lawyer to explain his eligibility was like in part 3 when Bombay defended their scholarships, the challenge for the Name sake, like the JV vs varsity played to change the warrior name to the Ducks, and just like all movies at the end, the dont bothers changed into Duck jerseys at the end to comeback and win.....quack quack quack #dontjudgeme
Plus the Hawks in the original movie and the Ducks in Game Changers are also similar to Cobra Kai dojo from the Karate Kid movies and Cobra Kai with Coaches Riley and T being similar to John Kreese.
Also in Episode 6 Evan goes to talk to Coach Bombay about his problems just like Bombay or Charlie used to go talk to Hans while he was sharpening the skates. Now we see Bombay doing the same thing,sharpening the skates while Evan is talking to him.
@ThinkStory The family dynamics of the other players wouldn't have been addressed, and weren't, because they were FILMS. They only have so much time to tell the story and it was about Bombay and the kids forming a team. Charlie's mom was a love interest. That's why she was a focus, though a slight one.
I do love that kids growing up today can see a whole new version of something I grew up with. I'll say that. Not entirely sure I like the new one, but it's not for me and not targeted for me. And I am biased.

I also went back and watched the Ducks movies after finishing Game Changers, then went back to Game Changers after being reminded that Hans died in D3. It was not Hans who left the Ice Palace to Gordon, it was his brother, Jan from D2. Bombay says it in the conversation where he's telling Alex about what happened to him.
For the record, the animated show wasn't based on the movies. It was based on the NHL franchise that Disney owned at the time. Hence why they played hockey in Anaheim. Not sure if you'd consider that better or worse.
Emilio isn't in the second season, Yan actually left Bombay the ice palace not hans. I think there is some connections in the OG movies. But anyways i'm too exited for the new season. I am from somewhere where ice hockey isn't popular at all, although turf hockey is a thing.

The reason why "Coach Bombay" was asked to resign was because according to the NCAA "college athletes cannot receive payment for playing a sport, funding to offset training expenses, accept prize money based on performance, be represented or marketed by a sports agent or professional, promote or endorse commercial products and much more." They are trying to change this rule so that college athletes can receive some kind of monetary payment because, for athletes that are not on a full ride, well that means they have to pay their way someway else. What I think bothered me the most was the fact that Gordon Bombay was a Lawyer; we didn't forget, so why did he?! He would of known that rule, hell it is ways brought up when college football and college basketball. The fact that he didn't used his knowledge of the law to get himself off, when he used a loophole to keep "The Ducks" at that Eden Hall Academy. I understand that Gordon Bombay is going to some shit for the past like almost 30 years, but to limit Coach Bombay to just a guy, that did hurt a little.
That definitely was one thing that bugged me about Gordon's reason for being black-balled from hockey. He was a lawyer (which they do bring up in the series), so he SHOULD HAVE known the rules in regards to NCAA Athletics. Though even with his law background, it would be tough to find some kind of loophole. Like you said, this type of thing is almost always brought up in NCAA football and basketball, and we've seen sanctions that result from them despite contest. Conversely though, I do appreciate that his reasoning also stemmed from his pure love of the sport, which is very much in line with what we've seen from him in the movies. He loves the game, and commits to wanting to pass that down to the next generation by any means possible, so that actually tracks on that level. I didn't mind them limiting Bombay like they did though. If you're gonna continue the story, and still have him be a major player, it wouldn't be that compelling if his life was still intact. Gotta start him off in a different place, story & dramatic-wise.

This show sucks there's nothing redeemable about the show another beloved Disney property sadly flushed down the toilet. They basically Luke Skywalker last Jedied coach Bombay. There's nothing likeable about the show it lost that charm that the original had. There's nothing charming about the show at all. With a healthy dose and injection of politics for no other reason than just because we can. A lot of the characters I do not like or I have no remote connection with. Or feel that I could have a connection with there was a certain charm and flare with the mighty duck movies. It's all flare but no charm no heart there's no soul in it no real soul just manufactured. The only time I actually was happy is when the original mighty ducks were on screen but even then it felt forced. Like hey look at this remember the good guys remember remember the original movie cast yeah look at them. Our show doesn't suck it has passion and has drive when no it doesn't.

Finished watching Game Changers the other day. Straight nostalgia when some of the old crew linked up with Bombay.
