Dorian had the world the right way at this point of his life but Harry told him there is far better than this. But what could be better than what he had with Sybil? Thanks for uploading.

This film departs far from the Wilde novella but is great well-rounded horror storytelling. Dorian’s tragedy is his own youthful naïveté and his desire to conform with society expectations. When Harry and the rest of his social circle tacitly demonstrated their disapproval of Sybil, Dorian rejected her. Now his friends were happy but he was devastated. Under Harry’s ill-intentioned advice, Dorian embarked on his unhealthy journey as a vain, heartless pleasure-seeker. Many of his actions reflect him “lashing out” at the society who denied him happiness with an “unsuitable” woman.

In the novel they go more into detail. At this point he wasn’t looking for more romantic wise, but he was afraid to loosing it. His good looks, his approval, he started crying because he was terrified it would all fall apart. But then Sybil had a terrible performance as Juliet and said it was because they were engaged and she no longer had to act sad. He realized she wasn’t perfect, overreacted and left her. Then she killed herself. And when he looked at the painting, he had a grim smile on his face, showing his sin and guilt.

@@DiaXisHD you're understanding it the wrong way. He means they love the security it provides (someone who doesn't wonder) , they love the attention and enjoy the possession... BUT you must never show you couldn't be lost if they mess up, don't belive hollywood on this. Romance dates back to the romantic era and is a pretty new and wrong concept to take litteraly.

Rachel Hurd-Wood looked spectacular in this movie (and with an amazing bust) but she was already overweight. She looked angelical in Solomon Kane, which was made around the same time, but a year later, when her body was more visible in the Australian film Tomorrow, When the War Began, she was shockingly overweight. Anyway, her facial beauty and fascinating eyes in her prime will always be difficult to match.
