@LouderThanMost at the crystal ballroom in Portland Oregon, 8/11/2023, the concert was recorded by TH-camr Richard Kaga, you can see the venue on his channel, and me dwarfing the others around me.
This concert was live streamed in November 2023, and it was mind-blowing from start to finish. 33 Songs, over 3 1/2 hours, and it is worth mentioning that by the time the maids played Hate? they had already been on stage for over 2 1/2 hours. The maids have over 130 songs in their catalogue, and every one is worth checking out. You simply cannot go wrong with Band-Maid.
Welcome, Ed. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 220 million YT views, plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (144 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 80 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/w-d-xo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, You, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, The One, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Protect You, Sense, Different, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): th-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/w-d-xo.html) And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts: 2023 Yokohama 10th Year Anniversary Concert “Endless Story” th-cam.com/video/Za1y-RRVd70/w-d-xo.html ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” th-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/w-d-xo.html Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” th-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/w-d-xo.html ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” th-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/w-d-xo.html Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 33 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 33 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 34 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 32 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. Thanks for the warm welcome and all the recommendations! I really truly cannot wait to explore more of their music and take a proper deep dive into their catalogue!!
Band-Maid are the best progressive hard rock band on the planet. If you like any type of hard rock music (and they are also supreme at mixing in different styles, jazz, funk, punk, blues, etc) then Band-Maid are the band for you. You will not be disappointed by diving much, much deeper into their discography. Peace, and good rocking!! 🤘🤘💕💕
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it and here we go! My advice would be, if you'd like to do more reactions to them, to randomly choose the next one from their catalogue. I can hardly think of another band being able to consistently produce such a number of great songs over a decade, probably only the Beatles comes to mind, and they ran out of fuel after 8 years. Band-Maid are still going full power and, reportedly, they have another one coming up and then some more.
Yep, an instant-Maidiac profile. Welcome to Band-Maid-land. I get the feeling we are going to hear a lot more from you as you explore these territories, uh-huh.
Welcome to the world of the Maid 🌍 🤘🏽 ❤ In the early days, the live performance of “Real Existence” was the gateway. Why not get that on your playlist as well? Honestly, you can’t go wrong with Band Maid. They have recorded some of the most amazing songs of this century. And that’s not hyperbole. Their recent 10th Anniversary concert was a 33 song setlist over 3 1/2 hours. And they had to schedule a spinoff show for the next week to play hits they didn’t have time for
Band-Maid is incredible. The entire Japanese rock/metal scene is the best in the world IMO. So much talent there (Led by the all-female bands). Lovebites, Nemophila, Hanabie, East of Eden, NEK!, and many others are worth diving deeper.
One of the reasons they have stayed together so long and remain such close and loving friends, not to mention their ability to perform so tightly, is that there is not a shred of ego between them. They each know they are good (and they are all top tier), but they put the band first and everyone gets their time to shine in a song.
Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. While they don't class themselves as a metal band, they don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed!
Haha thanks! Which of their other songs would you recommend I listen to? Which ones are like the stand out ones for you cause I need to do another video for sure!!
@@LouderThanMostthe instrumental From Now On is pretty nifty. Only 3 tiers of BandMaid songs 1) EPIC!!! 2) Great from the get go 3) pretty good but I don't know. Days later when you are not constipated What was I thinking this is Great!
One thing that makes them unique in today’s music is that they write catchy, accessible, songs that always have a pop sensibility in them but they don’t pull anything back to achieve that. No matter how complex, technical, and dense their music sometimes is it doesn’t lose that catchy pop vibe that hooks you and makes you want to listen to the song again immediately! It’s master-level songwriting that I don’t think ever I’ve seen done so well, or so consistently. I’ve been around 58 years so I have some measure of experience with rock music and Band Maid, IMO, is up there with the best ever to do it.
Yes, they are surprisingly complex. If you just listen to it without having your brain on it sounds quite simple, poppy and catchy. But, if you listen carefully you hear sophisticated drumming and bass lines. And also guitar stuff that you really had not noticed. And then you hear that Saiki and Miku are singing different lines. And what Miku sings is not pure backing, it has its own lead.
Madiac's unite! You are about to be flooded by the best and most supportive fan base out there. I really hope you do more from Band-Maid. There is soooooo much more they can do. Like bass solo's (MISA)? Try Dice, No God, or Influencer. Like instrumental's that really show off their talent? From Now On or Onset. Epic drum solo's? Freedom Live. Just be careful. Once you go down the Pigeon Hole, there is no coming back.
@@LouderThanMost 810 is the number value of lyricist-2nd vocalist-2nd guitarist Miku Kobato's name in Japanese numerology. And it is a stage name used specifically for her harder rock presence, Kobato meaning "small pigeon" which is the Japanese dove. So she says she is an 810 year old pigeon currently appearing in human form. She sometimes says "karuppo" which is the sound a pigeon/dove makes, or more often she will punctuate sentences with the short form "po!" The "lore" is deep with this band. Lead guitarist-composer Kanami is humble and sweet but becomes the bold guitar goddess Mincho onstage. Drummer Akane is known as The Gorilla at the drums (her power and 4 limbed articulation and use of bananas to fuel her energy in concert). And offside at the edge of the light in her long dark dress and in stocking feet is The Assassin. Lurking like a Ninja. Misa the mighty bassist. She typically plays without shoes to feel Akane's drumbeats better and synch her timing in. She is not a drunk but taking the occasional sip onstage of either whiskey or more often beer these days. Originally she would chug some before going on to cool her nerves. Then it came out in an interview, then in Germany a bottle of imported Jim Beam honey whiskey was on top of her amp when she came out, so she chugged some, put the cap back on, slung on her bass and was ready to roar. They loved it and now it's expected. The Orange amp with some kind of alcohol on top is hers. Early on, Saiki was trying to be cool and in control and so some fans called her the Ice Queen. But with gaining confidence and feeling the audiences' approval, she smiles and laughs and is simply The Queen now. BTW, I think you did very well pronouncing their names on the first go!
@@jamesredman1263 thanks for the compliment James and all the info! I had no idea the amount of lore this band has but it’s clear that it runs deep!! I definitely need to do a deeper dive into the band and find out more!
Having a bass solo in the first song of theirs I heard, Thrill, was what made me continue checking out their music. I, too, am a sucker for a good bass line/solo.
@@LouderThanMost Welcome to Band-Maid. Misa is essentially a lead bassist. If that’s what you’re into, you’re in for a treat. One of my favorites to listen to the bass on is Manners. It’s pretty common for them to do a little bass feature into a guitar solo, but Misa is basically doing a bass solo for the entire song, including straight through the guitar solo.
Band-Maids Miku Kobato, refers to the "GAP" a contrast between their visual image and their music. Band-Maid members dress in maid outfits, which are cute and submissive, while their music is powerful, wild, and hard rock. This unexpected contrast creates a unique appeal and is a key part of their identity. Miku Kobato, the band's founder, envisioned this concept while working at a Japanese maid café. She wanted to combine the cute maid image with rock music, creating a striking juxtaposition.
@@LouderThanMost Japanese culture has a concept of contrasting styles that lead to a surprise, called "The Gap." So Miku's thinking was guided somwhat by this built-in possible direction. The group Doll$$Box used it in a similar way in their official video of "Take My Chance," entering a room of music fans all demure and cutesy and deferential, and proceeding to blast everyone's hair back.
That was one of the best reactions I’ve seen for Band-Maid. I hope you didn’t need to be hospitalised after that! I’m one of the more elderly fans of Band-Maid and I need to monitor my blood pressure every time I see them. You will be amazed at the quality of all their videos because they’re incapable of doing a bad song. I’m from the UK like you, by the way, and not enough people from our patch know about Band-Maid. Does anybody do more for Band-Maid than Roger?
I didn’t have a clue who they were so I’m not surprised that a mainly Japanese based band hasn’t quite bridged the gap to the uk. I really hope they grow over here more and more though cause they are incredible! It’s great to see how it’s brought a few people in the comments together over the years as well!
Welcome Home, Louder Than Most!!!🕊️ Congratulations on improving your life today! Finding the Maids can be a life-changing experience of pure JOY! 🤩 The Maids are a remarkable collection of extraordinarily talented musicians who excel at every aspect of modern Rock music creation: Composition, Arrangement, Songwriting, Orchestration, Instrumentation, Recording, Production, Playing and Performance. If you stick with the journey, you’ll see it’s true. BAND-MAID pulls in fans of all ages from all rock genres - pop-punk, emo, modern rock, classic rock, grunge, heavy metal; because the Maids are so talented and versatile with songs using elements of every rock style and genre imaginable! Many of their biggest fans are folks, of all ages, who also love the timeless artists like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, RUSH, YES, The Who, Santana, Toto, Steely Dan, Metallica, Dimash Quidebergen, etc….as we find many of the high-level musical qualities in the Maid’s music as well. We like to say the Maids are their own genre. They are in fact on the (back) cover of the Japanese Rolling Stone magazine this month. They have a goal of (peaceful) World Domination through music; and are on their way. They’ve toured Europe and North America before; they’ve stayed in Japan for 2024, but expect them to make a tour stop near you in 2025! As for more songs; 😂. It’s a bit of a joke with us Masters & Princesses (or Maidiacs, if you prefer), because, literally, the Maids are probably the single most PROLIFIC band at writing great song after great song - EVER. No kidding. They have 130+ songs across the rock music genre spectrum - we say they are their own genre. 🤷🏻♂️ Seriously, I’m not kidding - you’ll easily get 50-75 different song suggestions from 10 different people. And there’s a saying in the community; “Your favorite Band-Maid song is the next one you listen to.” 🤷🏻♂️ My contributions for the next song on your journey down the Band-Maid “Pigeon Hole” (😂) cover a diverse set of songs. Thankyou so much haha! Wow there is a lot of music to digest but I suppose that’s what happens when you discover a band that’s 10+ years into their creative journey! Thankyou so much for the recommendations, looks like I have some homework to do!
@@LouderThanMostNo worries! Listening to the Maids is a journey to be savored! Take your time and enjoy the experience, you won’t regret it! Take care! ✌🏼🎤🎸🥁🎼⛩️☮️🕊️🌎
Damn if finding a Band-Maid reactor who gets them like this on first time out isn't one of my very favorite things. Great reaction, subbed! I hope you do a ton more Band-Maid reactions. You'll certainly get a ton more subs if you do!
been listening to the MAIDS for around five years, my introduction to them was "ONSET" an instrumental, one thing I do like about them is that MISA gets to show her skills on the bass on most of their music, which I find really great, I been listening to heavy rock/metal since the 1970's (I'm 63 now) and I think they are the only bad that highlights the bassist this much.
I can’t think of any other band that highlights their bassist like this which is a shame cause I love it! I need to hear that song so will add it to my list!
@@LouderThanMost MISA the Bassist , plays Barefoot on stage also drinks beer n Jim Beam while playing , It was asked in an interview that MISA `s outfit didn`t look like a Maid outfit , Miku Kobato band founder , rhythm guitarist said it was an Assassin`s Maid outfit , put it all together you have the Barefoot Bass Assassin , plus MISA kill's the bass in every performance .
It isn't just the Maid costumes, which really work for their live show, but the compositions and arrangements are carefully thought out to present the song in the best possible way. BTW - "HATE?" was song 27 of 33 in a 3 and a half hour long concert celebrating their 10th anniversary. If you see them live look forward to their "breaks" where they engage with the audience and troll each other. They are one of the most entertaining bands currently touring.
"Proper bass solo" and "omg" are Band Maid's middle name, it's what they do. So glad you enjoyed this. Now you have about another 140 great songs to get through. Another bass/guitar conversation is the live MV version of "Don't You Tell ME" from this same show. Welcome to the Pigeon-hole.
@@LouderThanMost Speaking of Black Hole, may you react to an MV of theirs. It's a 2 song video, it shows Band Maid use of many genres... the MV is "Manners - Black Hole" 😂🤘see what we did there...
@@LouderThanMost We Maidiacs call it the pigeon-hole, because Miku (red rose/rhythm guitar/lyricist) the founder of the group, last name is Kobato, which she says translate to "small pigeon" 🕊
It's always great to see people get blown away by Bandmaid. Welcome to this world. They have a big catalogue and you're gonna love it all. Try the live versions of Puzzle, Freedom, Domination..or ANY of their live stuff. It's all amazing.
@@GaryHolloway-810 I like the part where Saiki throws the mic stand away forever. You already plugged DYTM, but yeah. He should do the M/V AND the live from Yokohama.
“That was like zero to 100 like that!” Sorry, Master Ed…wrong song! If you want 0 to 100 like you want the OMV to Band-Maids “from now on.” THAT’s 0 to 100! You are what I call an “InstaMaidiac!” I also was an InstaMaidiac! I didn’t need to hear a second or third song to know that Band-Maid was the band for me! Hell, I didn’t even get halfway through my first song THRILL (OMV) before I knew! Within minutes of watching THRILL I was running around my office saying “Have you seen this band? Have you SEEN this band???” Typical comments from an InstaMaidiac: “Oh my God! What the hell is THIS? Who IS this band and where have they been all my life? And why have I never heard of them???” The reason you’ve never heard of them is because ROGER CHANCE never told you about them until now. He’s has been sleeping on the job again while you’ve been lost in the Rock and Roll wilderness! (You’ll soon learn that is an inside joke - Roger is Band-Maid’s Carrier Pigeon in Chief! He is constantly promoting the Maids!) Hi, Roger! You are absolutely going to love this band! Fasten your seat belt! Greetings from Dallas, Texas!
Haha thanks for the shout John I’ll get round to listening to it like that! More than happy with the title of instamaidiac as it shows how quickly I fell in love with them!!
You’ve found the path to paradise-or in other words, you’ve fallen into a bottomless rabbit hole. Before long, you’ll find yourself exploring more BAND-MAID songs, and while doing so, you’ll inevitably check out other bands-naturally, Japanese female bands. And then it will hit you: how happy you feel, how those youthful sensations you’d forgotten have been rekindled, and how you’ve gained a worldwide community of comrades. So, let’s enjoy this journey together. 🤘
Now, if you want to hear another conversation between MISA, the bassist, and Kanami, the lead guitarist. You should react to "Don't You Tell ME", the official live video, from the same concert. Another great bass solo by MISA, this time with Akane, the drummer, you should react to a live video on TH-cam titled: Band-Maid "Honkai" SPINOFF. The song is a proper hard-rock banger but the two of them have an EPIC intro to the song.
Good react and channel, Kitsune. This performance and song is absolutely amazing!! They are simply Perfect! Welcome to The Maidiacs man. Definitely you need watch now Freedom live! See you! 🤟🦊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇯🇵
You should read some of the recommendations in the comments and find more. Their fans are so welcoming and supportive so I know they’ll help point you in the right direction! Great name by the way Edward! 😂
Great watching your circuits glitch/ malfunction watching them for the first time! Welcome to the Band Maid universe! As you get to know more about them (interviews, documentaries), you will realise they are literally a perfect band, organically developed.
There’s nothing I love more than an organic band that has grown together over time and become super popular! I’m going to do a deeper dive into lore of their stuff soon! And thanks haha I did make myself laugh when I was editing it! 😂
Best rock band on the planet. Roger Chance should be given a medal for his promotion of Band Maid. However, Roger, I found Band Maid before you did. 😁😀 Try REAL EXISTENCE live too for another hard rocker.
Welcome to Band Maid! The best rock band on the planet (imo of course). Great reaction, I saw them perform this song live in 2022, it was mind blowing. Their concerts (they call them okyuji’s, which is Japanese for “servings”) are an absolute blast and you will leave is a huge smile on your face guaranteed. They often have a couple songs like this in a show where they extend the breakdown section and really let the instrumentalist shine, not to mention they do a pure instrumental usually at the mid point of the show. You absolutely should not miss them if you get the chance. Check out Dice, Shambles, Protect You, Play (live), Donination (live). The Japanese scene is amazing right now, tons of great bands in there. If you want some crazy metalcore stuff, check out Hanabie - We Love Sweets, or Tousou. If you want a band similar to Band Maid that’s very new, but has another mind bogglingly great bassist, check out Nek! - Maze
I bet they were incredible live! Where did you watch them play? Don’t worry they’re definitely on my list to see live now! Thankyou so much for the other band recommendations, I’ve added them to my list!!
Thank you for having the sense to not pause during the solos like so many reactors do. Interrupting Kanami is cardinal sin. Individual songs could be suggested, but honestly just go to their YT page and play every song there. You'll find a variety of styles; music videos, live videos, instrumentals, acoustics. The Maids will become your favorite band.
FYI... K-Pop stands for Korean Pop music. Band-Maid is from Japan and call themselves a hard rock band. I guess you could classify them as J-Rock but they are so much more than that. All of the members originally had traditional maid outfits but that has now evolved into each member having an outfit that more suits their individual style. Their outfits in this video are somewhat steampunk inspired to my eyes. Some song suggestions for you are Moratorium, No God, Rinne, Onset, From Now On, Without Holding Back, About Us, Play, Why Why Why, Clang, and Matchless Gum. There are a couple more live videos from the same Yokohama Arena okyuji as Hate which are very good. Don't You Tell Me is a straight up banger with another guitar vs bass duel, and Endless Story is a tear jerker ballad that even choked up Saiki and Akane, since it was the last song of their 10th year anniversary tour. Also, they just released a collaboration with The Warning called Show Them which is a must listen for a fan of either band.
One of the best Maid reactions I've seen in ages. Love that you instantly got them. Welcome to the Pigeon hole it's one hell of a ride, one that everyone in your comments has been through. Welcome future Maidiac.
Your next Band Maid reaction needs to be From Now On (Instrumental) and Real Existence (official live music video). Stellar performances from the Maids!
@@LouderThanMost Pleasure Ed. Trust me, your life will be better now that Band Maid are in it - not a joke by the way. One of the great things about Band Maid (one of many I would add) is you can go completely off grid with them as they have an alter ego band (same members) called Band Maiko where they sing some of their usual songs in Geisha/Maiko dialect whilst wearing Kimonos. Check out Band Maiko - Gion-cho official MV. BTW Gion- Cho is the Geisha/Maiko area of Kyoto where the MV was shot.
Thanks for reacting to the greatest band in the world! This was one of my favorite reaction I've seen to Band-Maid. You noticed things that many reactors miss and I liked how you truly enjoyed the performance. The Maids are not only incredible musicians, they're also amazing people. They're humble and funny and honestly love their fans. One quick story that I think exemplifies what type of people they are: I saw them at Pointfest, a large rock festival, where they were set to play one of the smaller stages. Before their set another band was playing on the stage next to theirs and they came out on stage and watched the other bands, applauding them and encouraging the fans to cheer them on. I have no idea if they had ever heard that band, but they were rooting for their fellow musicians just because. I love each and every member of Band-Maid. On another note, I'll recommend some other bands to check out (I don't know if you've heard any of them or not) : Nemophila Hanabie Nek! Rolling Quartz
I haven’t heard of any of those other bands so will definitely check them out!! Thankyou so much I really appreciate that! That is one of those things that bands never do but really should! For a band of that scale to do that however is fantastic! I love love LOVE it when bands and musicians support each other.
When you have a bassist as good as Misa, you aren't going to leave her at the back playing simple notes. She is a lead musician in her own right. Every Band-Maid song is a three and a half minute bass solo by Misa, accompanied by her backing band, the other four Maids.🙂 Lead guitarist Kanami is also their principal composer, but Misa writes her bass parts and Akane writes up her drum part (although with suggestions from Kanami to both).
Great reaction. Thank you and welcome to Band Maid, the greatest rock/ hard rock band on the planet. From all of us Madiacs thank you for supporting the Maids. Just subscribed.
Go Rodger, the leader of the Carrier Pigeons, Po! If you haven't already had another great all girls band from S. Korea recommended, try Rolling Quartz and they are K-Rock, try RE-Bold, their latest song.
BM call it ,the gap, when people press play for the first time on a BM video,,The jaw drops and silence ensues for a while, everybody that discovers these ladies has gone through that feeling,These talanted ladies are the best band out there,,,,,Many BM fans will be incoming and song suggestions will come thick and fast, enjoy the journey.
11 years and 130+ songs of pure greatness 🔥❤️ They have it all..Passion Work Heart Talent Groove. Magical band, amazing musicians, best friends. For me..Greatest Band of our time 🔥❤️ Thank you for reacting Band-Maid 🤘Greets from 🇫🇮
@ Actually 140+ songs nowadays and none of them is even average song, they are all good. Kanami Tōno, lead guitarist is also composer and She is genius for songwriting. For me..most impressive musician of the 21st Century, maybe even ever. And on stage true rock n’roll star like all of them. Lovin Kanami 🔥❤️ Lovin’ Band-Maid 🔥❤️
If you want to see them in full maid outfit (and actually not being cheesy) then I think you shall look at the old music movie of "Thrill". This is actually a rather good song and video, even though its one of their first ones. Although they are much better now, this old one is worth looking at. This video also has a story. Their record company had decided to shut down their interest in BAND-MAID, because it was not going so well. But, then they made this video and it became viral in no time at all, and they were saved. One more story related to this video. Originally Miku, the backup singer and backup guitarist, was meant to be the lead vocalist. But Miku (that also started the band) decided that they needed someone stronger, and then she herself became backup singer. To make it more flashy she was carrying a pretty guitar, but she could not play. If you look closely at the Thrill video you can see that she never play. But, one day Kanami, the guitarist, decided that this was not OK. So, Miku had to learn to play it. And today, she is quite good at guitar. A third story regarding the new lead singer Saiki is that they never told her about the maid costumes. And actually she would never have taken the job if they did. At the dress rehearsal she got upset, but it was too late to back out. Gradually, the members have moved away from maid costumes. First to do so was Saiki and MISA (the bassist), they really did not fancy it. Now, it is only Miku that has a pure maid costume. The last one to switch was the guitarist Kanami. NOTE - that the drummer Akane do not have a maid outfit. It is something else. She also used to have a small and silly hat. I have no idea why.
Welcome to the fandom! ♥ these chikas! I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live) I also suggest another all female rock band from Mexico - The Warning I suggest these TW songs: Money, Sick, Automatic Sun, Enter Sandman (with Alessia Cara), Evolve (live VMAs) & Dust To Dust (live Teatro) Both bands are friends & big fans of each other. They played a joint concert in Tokyo back in June (I was there) They also kinda recently released a song collab called - Show Them
Nice reaction to a great band. More Band-Maid is always good :) I love Bass solos! Okay, now for the classic "right in behind Roger with some of the other Japanese all women / Japanese women fronted or containing rock / metal groups suggestions" manoeuvre. So this Japanese mostly women rock / metal rabbit hole is absurd in size, scope, variety, and awesomeness. I don't like to give as much initial info as Roger as I prefer as much surprise as possible, but with just enough info to draw interest :D So these suggestions run thorough many genres of metal from classic 80s style metal, metalcore, deathcore elements, electronicore, clean vocals, unclean vocals, dancing, cuteness, genre mixing, musicians, idols, high technical skill, elements of Japanese culture that don't turn up much in Western music which makes the music and videos a little extra interesting. However, I wont say which band / group is which genre etc to keep the surprise. If you prefer to look a group up ahead then by all means still do if that's your style. But if you don't they will be a bit more "o.0 the hell!!!!" in the reactions :D If you like one it doesn't mean you will like the others. If you dislike one the others might still hit for you. What I will do though is make first suggestion the one I think you should do first as it will give the maximum "WTF!!!!" factor the less of the rabbit hole you have seen. Then the rest, if they intrigue you, any order. --------------------- Hint: Yes the vocals are real. Hello from near Liverpool 👍🤘 Maaate! You've struck solid GOLD!!! Folks will rightly recommend all the live videos 🔥 but on the journey, I MUST recommend a song I got hooked on in the covid lockdown when I found them...pls check the 'Dice' MV for some quintessential Maid Rock addictive happy/hard rockin. Superb studio arrangement 👌💪❤🔥🤘🤘🤘
Good Day Louder Than Most, Welcome to BAND-MAID!!! Doesn't hurt to repeat what others have suggested. Play (Live), Real Existence (Live), No God (Live), Onset (Live), Puzzle (Live), Wonderland (Live), Magie (Live), Freedom (Live), Domination (Live), Don't you tell ME (Live), Dice (MV), Blooming (MV), Shambles (MV), From Now On (MV), Manners (MV), Rinne (MV), the non fiction days (MV), Glory (MV), Forbidden Tale (MV), Start Over (MV) or pick any video from them. Thanks and have a good day!!!
The use of English with Japanese by the bands of Japan has to do with lyric flow. The best example is from Asami, singer and lyricist for Lovebites is is YOU. In Japanese the word for You has 3 syllables. So if your writing lyric which would you use.
0:47 Roger, you've been busy 🧮👀 1:06 Well, I'd suggest Band Maid HATE? 😼 so, OK, how about Band Maid Turn Me On live at Zepp 🎸 (or do you only react to bands once ? 🤔) if so, how about BabyMetal iine mv? 12:20 Somehow I missed Kanami's swaggering beast mode here before 😈👀😝
Welcome to the Band Maid rabbit hole. So much to unpack. If you want to get a grasp of how complex they are, I recommend "forbidden tale". IMHO, Kanami, the lead guitar and composer is a genius. Are there more technically skilled musicians around? Yes, of course. Especially in Japan. But no one writes songs as well and are as tight as BM.
On the subject of female Japanese bands, you must try Lovebites. 'Holy war; live at Zepp Divercity or the live 'Soldier stands solitarily' would be good places to start
Welcome Maidiac to your favorite new band. It was Miku (who sings backup with the red flower that formed the band). I look forward to your next reaction to the maids.
New York is so good they named it twice ( New York, New York ).
MISA is so great they named her thrice ( MISA, MISA, MISA ).
😂😂 brilliant!
If you get into the Maids' discography you'll start to realize that "prolific" was actually spot on.
Haha I’m starting to realise that from the comments now 😂
Discovered Band Maid in 2016, and saw them up close and personal in 2023, what you see is what you get, the best hard rocking Band in the world.
Sounds brilliant! Where did you see them?
@LouderThanMost at the crystal ballroom in Portland Oregon, 8/11/2023, the concert was recorded by TH-camr Richard Kaga, you can see the venue on his channel, and me dwarfing the others around me.
@@ajdenzer3039haha will have a look for it! I bet it was incredible!!
Jeez that just makes this performance all the more special! I couldn’t fathom being able to play to that level after playing for 2 1/2 hours!
(from their own Anime MV (series?)): th-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/w-d-xo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies.

Hey Brad thanks! I love how they mix up the different styles it’s so cool!
MISA & Kanami keeping up the great Maid tradition of Sweeping all before them :)

Ooo that sounds fun kind of like a BANDMAID lottery?! 😂 can’t wait to hear more of their stuff!
Yep, an instant-Maidiac profile. Welcome to Band-Maid-land. I get the feeling we are going to hear a lot more from you as you explore these territories, uh-huh.

Yeah true! She is phenomenal, each member plays their instrument so so well!
Welcome to the world of the Maid 🌍 🤘🏽 ❤
In the early days, the live performance of “Real Existence” was the gateway. Why not get that on your playlist as well? Honestly, you can’t go wrong with Band Maid. They have recorded some of the most amazing songs of this century. And that’s not hyperbole. Their recent 10th Anniversary concert was a 33 song setlist over 3 1/2 hours. And they had to schedule a spinoff show for the next week to play hits they didn’t have time for
You know you’re an incredible band when you have to have a greatest hits show part 2 😂
Band-Maid is incredible. The entire Japanese rock/metal scene is the best in the world IMO. So much talent there (Led by the all-female bands). Lovebites, Nemophila, Hanabie, East of Eden, NEK!, and many others are worth diving deeper.
This sounds like an incredible list! Thanks Kevin will be checking all of these out!!
Don't forget Babymetal, friend. They paved the way for all of them in the west.
@@unmadaEijfferts-tg9hpbabymetal is another one I haven’t heard of, they’re a band along the same vein I’m assuming?
One of the reasons they have stayed together so long and remain such close and loving friends, not to mention their ability to perform so tightly, is that there is not a shred of ego between them. They each know they are good (and they are all top tier), but they put the band first and everyone gets their time to shine in a song.
That’s honestly the best way for a band to be. I love the fact they have been going for so long and doing so well aswell!!
@@LouderThanMost Liked your analogy that they are like a jazz unit, they all shine individually but shine brighter as a unit.
@@Grum-monkey Couldn't be said better they all each shine at their own time in each song ,

I honestly love how every time I’ve listened to it I’ve heard a new part or melody line or lyric. Like it feels like it’s constantly brand new!
Well said. yes...catchy, poppy, accessible and complex !!
The best live rock band on the planet...maybe ever.
Big claim but definitely one that’s hard to argue against!!
Always great to see a connoisseur losing his cherry to Band-Maid. Subscribed!
You’ve made me feel slightly dirty there 😂
Madiac's unite!
Flooded doesn’t even begin to describe it but I love it!!
Will check out the recommendations thanks Zack!!
From 0 to 810 at the drop of a hat, Po! 🕊
Haha no messing around!
@@LouderThanMost
810 is the number value of lyricist-2nd vocalist-2nd guitarist Miku Kobato's name in Japanese numerology. And it is a stage name used specifically for her harder rock presence, Kobato meaning "small pigeon" which is the Japanese dove. So she says she is an 810 year old pigeon currently appearing in human form. She sometimes says "karuppo" which is the sound a pigeon/dove makes, or more often she will punctuate sentences with the short form "po!"
The "lore" is deep with this band.

THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. Think that covers everything.
Haha well said Tony, couldn’t have put it better myself
Welcome to the Japanese music scene.
Enjoy diving in the pigeon hole, then you can branch to all the other wonderful Japanese bands and groups.
Haha thanks luc, can’t wait to hear more music!
Having a bass solo in the first song of theirs I heard, Thrill, was what made me continue checking out their music. I, too, am a sucker for a good bass line/solo.
Sounds like we’ve both had the same start with them 😂
@@LouderThanMost Welcome to Band-Maid.
@@daaaaaaveoooh that sounds right up my street. I’ll add that to the list and have a listen!!
It works so well as a juxtaposition too! Definitely one she thought out deeply and well!
@@LouderThanMost
Japanese culture has a concept of contrasting styles that lead to a surprise, called "The Gap." So Miku's thinking was guided somwhat by this built-in possible direction.
The group Doll$$Box used it in a similar way in their official video of "Take My Chance," entering a room of music fans all demure and cutesy and deferential, and proceeding to blast everyone's hair back.
@@jamesredman1263that’s so cool! I definitely need to have a look at more examples of the gap!
I've almost perfected the youth serum you wanted, Phil. I've got the serum, it's just the youth bit that's missing at the moment :)
Gary, the will is definitely there, the body not so much. I’m fine for the duration of the music. Thanks for the offer.
@@philbrowning1187 Phil i think the Maids have already taken years off of the both of us :)
you bet Gary!
I didn’t have a clue who they were so I’m not surprised that a mainly Japanese based band hasn’t quite bridged the gap to the uk. I really hope they grow over here more and more though cause they are incredible! It’s great to see how it’s brought a few people in the comments together over the years as well!
Welcome Home, Louder Than Most!!!🕊️
Congratulations on improving your life today!
Finding the Maids can be a life-changing experience of pure JOY! 🤩
The Maids are a remarkable collection of extraordinarily talented musicians who excel at every aspect of modern Rock music creation: Composition, Arrangement, Songwriting, Orchestration, Instrumentation, Recording, Production, Playing and Performance.
Seriously, I’m not kidding - you’ll easily get 50-75 different song suggestions from 10 different people. And there’s a saying in the community; “Your favorite Band-Maid song is the next one you listen to.” 🤷🏻♂️

Haha glad you liked it!!
been listening to the MAIDS for around five years, my introduction to them was "ONSET" an instrumental, one thing I do like about them is that MISA gets to show her skills on the bass on most of their music, which I find really great, I been listening to heavy rock/metal since the 1970's (I'm 63 now) and I think they are the only bad that highlights the bassist this much.
I can’t think of any other band that highlights their bassist like this which is a shame cause I love it! I need to hear that song so will add it to my list!

Have you SEEN this band???”
Typical comments from an InstaMaidiac: “Oh my God! What the hell is THIS? Who IS this band and where have they been all my life? And why have I never heard of them???”
The reason you’ve never heard of them is because ROGER CHANCE never told you about them until now.

Another great bass solo by MISA, this time with Akane, the drummer, you should react to a live video on TH-cam titled: Band-Maid "Honkai" SPINOFF. The song is a proper hard-rock banger but the two of them have an EPIC intro to the song.

As a musician I’m well aware of this cardinal sin and would never disgrace the musical gods by disobeying them! Haha just a few songs to hear then!
Prolific & Creative
Haha I wasn’t sure prolific was the right word so panic edited creative in 😂
just fabulous...... thats all i can say!
Haha thanks Scott! They are brilliant!
Love the reaction!! BandMaid ROCKS!
Thanks jack and hell yeah they do!!
That’s for the heads up and the info! Will add those recommendations to the list, can’t wait to hear more of their stuff!!

When you have a bassist as good as Misa, you aren't going to leave her at the back playing simple notes. She is a lead musician in her own right. Every Band-Maid song is a three and a half minute bass solo by Misa, accompanied by her backing band, the other four Maids.🙂
Lead guitarist Kanami is also their principal composer, but Misa writes her bass parts and Akane writes up her drum part (although with suggestions from Kanami to both).
It sounds like they have a really good routine for writing songs as they sound so so good!

@@bocatamperegod I have a lot of music to catch up on and a lot of research to do!!
Full of information Roland! Thanks for sharing it! It’s so much fun to learn new stuff about new bands!

“Yeah,they’re special.” - Powbobs
LOL. That pretty much sums it up! Po!
Welcome to the fandom! ♥ these chikas! I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live)
I also suggest another all female rock band from Mexico - The Warning
I suggest these TW songs: Money, Sick, Automatic Sun, Enter Sandman (with Alessia Cara), Evolve (live VMAs) & Dust To Dust (live Teatro)
Both bands are friends & big fans of each other. They played a joint concert in Tokyo back in June (I was there)
They also kinda recently released a song collab called - Show Them
Brilliant! Thanks so much for the suggestion!!
I don't like to give as much initial info as Roger as I prefer as much surprise as possible, but with just enough info to draw interest :D
So these suggestions run thorough many genres of metal from classic 80s style metal, metalcore, deathcore elements, electronicore, clean vocals, unclean vocals, dancing, cuteness, genre mixing, musicians, idols, high technical skill, elements of Japanese culture that don't turn up much in Western music which makes the music and videos a little extra interesting. However, I wont say which band / group is which genre etc to keep the surprise.
If you prefer to look a group up ahead then by all means still do if that's your style. But if you don't they will be a bit more "o.0 the hell!!!!" in the reactions :D
If you like one it doesn't mean you will like the others. If you dislike one the others might still hit for you.
What I will do though is make first suggestion the one I think you should do first as it will give the maximum "WTF!!!!" factor the less of the rabbit hole you have seen. Then the rest, if they intrigue you, any order.

Will have to check them out, expect a video some point in the future!!
Much appreciated genuine reaction 👍.
Thanks mate! Glad you liked it!
I like your comment, "It's almost like jazz..." I think this band could make a great jazz album. Listen to their song Forbidden Tale.
Oh it bet it would be phenomenal! I’d definitely love to see that, will add the suggestion to the list thanks mate!
One of the most interesting descriptions i ever came across was" The best jazz band that plays Rock "
What a pleasure to see you reacting ! Expect more from them !
Haha thankyou! I have plenty more of their songs to hear yet!!
Hey Thankyou so much!
Added to the list! Can’t wait to hear more of their stuff!
The use of English with Japanese by the bands of Japan has to do with lyric flow. The best example is from Asami, singer and lyricist for Lovebites is is YOU. In Japanese the word for You has 3 syllables. So if your writing lyric which would you use.
I didn’t know that, that’s such a clever way to write a song! I wonder if you could add in several languages to change rhymes as well as syllables
0:47 Roger, you've been busy 🧮👀
1:06 Well, I'd suggest Band Maid HATE? 😼 so, OK, how about Band Maid Turn Me On live at Zepp 🎸 (or do you only react to bands once ? 🤔) if so, how about BabyMetal iine mv?
12:20 Somehow I missed Kanami's swaggering beast mode here before 😈👀😝
I’d happily listen to bands more than once as well as new bands!
Have put the suggestions on the list!
There really is a lot to unpack with them which is so fun as there’s always something g new to discover!
There are soooo many great songs and live videos for you to jump into. Enjoy
Oh I cannot wait to hear more believe me! ❤
On the subject of female Japanese bands, you must try Lovebites. 'Holy war; live at Zepp Divercity or the live 'Soldier stands solitarily' would be good places to start
Ooo sounds great! Will definitely check them out!!
Welcome Maidiac to your favorite new band. It was Miku (who sings backup with the red flower that formed the band). I look forward to your next reaction to the maids.
Thanks for the warm welcome Robert! I can’t wait to hear more!
Welcome to the world of the MAIDIACS! Great reaction! Just subbed. 🙏🕊and❤on🌏
Thanks mate I appreciate it!!
Should check out 'Don't you tell me' and 'Endless Story' from the same concert. Endless Story is the last of 33 songs and is filled with emotion.
I will do! Thankyou sp much for the recommendations!!
