When you buy a tent, they assume you know all these things. This is the instruction manual for those of us who want to camp but didn't grow up learning all these skills. Subscribed!
I'm new to camping, thank you! I never knew how to use those guy lines that came with my tent. Fortunately staking it down was sufficient on my last camping trip. But I'll guy it out this time just because now I know how. Lol.
If I watched this video before I went camping I would have saved myself about an hour and a tantrum 😂 thanks a bunch. Much simpler than the bs I was trying to do
I am going on my first solo camping trip next week. I successfully set up my brand new tent last night in my backyard, but could not figure out how to do the guylines. This was so helpful!
Thanks for the simple explanation, just got an awning on my camper and didn't have a clue how to secure it using the guy lines supplied with it (type with plastic slider) 👍
Going camping next month really kneeded to learn some knots thank you for your easy to follow demonstration. Quality video thanks for sharing keep up the good work brother 👍
Have you ever had any issues using the taut line hitch with tent stakes that aren't as smooth, like the hex type stakes with groves instead of the Shepard hook type ones u have in your video? Thanks Love you videos, keep them coming for all of us!
No, sorry. I haven’t made one on that yet. To some extent, you can use the position of the guy line loops (that are attached to the tent) as a guide. If you see the loop, you can run a guy line there. And some tents even have the guy lines pre attached. I hope that helps as a starting point!
Man, I think I didn't buy a guy line. Dang thing was beside the tent section so I guess it was the line. I bought a paracord. Is it still possible to use it as a guy line?
For 60 plus years I always thought the rabbit came out of the hole, around the tree, back in the hole again. Now you're telling me the rabbit goes in the hole, around the roots, and comes back up out of the hole?
They are to keep your tent from deforming/blowing away in high winds/storms. Depending on your tent, some of the lower guy lines expand areas of your rain fly for ventilation and better water resistance by pulling the fly away from the inner tent.

You are the only one that made this make sense by comparing it side by side with a topline hitch. Thank you very much!
tautline hitch* 🙂.. but yes, I agree!
Thanks a million ... as a first-timer I had no idea what to make of it.

Was “kneeded” a pun?
Very helpful, thank you
Thanks for the tip.
Very helpful thanks
I have been backpacking 30 years, I’m on my 5 th tent, I still find the plastic things useless. Bowline and truckers hitch are my go-to knots.
A coloured guy line would have been easier to see. I appreciate the video. Thank you.

Thank you
How long should the guyline be ?
Hm, was hoping more for placement of guy lines. Do you have a video for that?

Very informative

I suppose you 5hink I have been doing it wrong for the last 55 years!
Well, if when you wake up and your shelter is still in place then I'd say you sir, are doing it properly.
Most likely all of us who are watching this video are doing it wrong! Haha!
You need to zoom in closer with your knots
I still dont understand what the guy lines are for. I need some live visualization to realize its purpose.

1:42. I get stuck here.
I feel dumb that I did it another way 🤣
Couldn’t see the knots will enough to be useful
Your hands are hiding the work!
Thanks for wasting my time
You say over but looks like under, confused 🫤
