that platform was only built a few years back. I remember watching two elderly gents with picks and shovels laying the slabs. We have to thank all those unselfish volunteers at the GCR otherwise this would either be overgrown or a housing estate

It is hard to believe that this was part of the original Channel tunnel route. When it was built in the 1890s, Edward Watkins had visions of a great route, Manchester, Dover, Paris via Baker Street.

I had not realised how typically English and pretty the country around there is, the sooner they reconnect the 2 halves of the line the better, it will be astounding.

*Interesting to see how they got around the Geography - EG Bunny Hill etc Be a Wonderful experience to be able to travel from Leicester North to Rushcliffe Country Park (Ruddington) when opened*

I was surprised by two things 1) the number of railway telegraph poles still there and 2) the shrubs growing out of the masonry of the viaduct. Repointing that viaduct or repairing it will be very expensive, these shrubs need killing now before their roots do any more damage. I went to university at Sutton Bonington in the 1960s so remember the line when it was still a working railway.
