NOTE: Make sure you also loosen the 14mm nut on the idler pulley next to the Alternator to help loosen Adjustment screw. And make sure to tighten it back up!... That Video clip did not record.
THANK YOU, NATHAN! I had watched another TH-cam video prior to viewing yours. Unfortunately, the guy didn't mention the 14mm (hidden bolt). He only said you have to push the power steering pump very hard after backing out the tensioner adjustment screw. I pushed, and pushed until I was blue in the face. I figured there must be another bolt holding it. Then I found your video. Voila! THANK YOU!
Same here Joe , other video never mentioned the hidden 14 mm to loosen so the PS pump swings forward to get belt off . Guess that's why he was wrestling with it . 🤔
Once I saw my old honda crx slam down in ground rotor without tire where my thigh was 2 seconds before I refused to ever work on a car again without Jack stands or ramps.. that jack you got is quality, but I still don't trust them especially in soft ground.
Thank you. I will try to fix my power steering belt tomm. I have changed many belts on older cars without the adjustment screws. Thought maybe I could pop this one but I can't find a good angle to get my screwdrivers wedged.
Thank you. I got it on. Was good to go. Then the next morning coolant is coming out like 30 seconds after I put it in. Car was not started either. I don't know what happened. It is near the water pump I believe. But why does it happen almost immediately? Gasket or pump itself but the car isn't on. Hose? Sorry I am bugging ya. Just worried cause I can't afford a mechanic.
@@FixingWithPassion okay thank goodness I looked again. I saw the not you added. I have to loosen the idler pulley to be able to loosen the tension screw.
This video helps me a lot, just a different step in the smaller belt I loose the nut behind the mechanism where the bolt spin only that way I was able to adjust the drive belt...just in case.
Nice one, it gave me an idea of what to do. Better to spend 15 minutes on the video rather than an hour under the car trying to workout what's going on.
Nice vid and it definitely clear you know what you are doing but I couldn’t help but to notice the lack of a jack stand when you went under the car. I was a tech for several years and now work as a firefighter and paramedic and man I can tell you first hand it’s not worth it to skimp on the jack stand. Not trying to be a dick at all I just don’t want you to get hurt or worse and for people watching your video and copying what they saw. Always support the car with a stand. Please!!
After watching this video. I'm 100% or at least 50% or maybe 20 % that I can put the belt in my Nissan myself while my hubby at work. If, I do it right I'm going be able to go in and have a cold one too. Wish me luck. 53 yr old in Atx.. I
I can NOT figure out how to loosen up this freakin power steering belt what bolt am I supposed to loose. I took that long bolt out and it's not moving at all 🙃
Nathan, Good morning, 1. As for as the adjustment rod and screw goes....it sounds like you loosened the rod first then backed the screw all the way out. 2. The powersteering nut just loosen it correct? Also what is the torq spec or snug? 3.the alternator adj screw what is the torq spec on it? 4. As for steps (one) bottom powersteering bolt, (two) (optional 12mm alt bracket bolts) 14mm alternator adj bolt, (three) secondary pulley bolt loosen, (four) loosen ps bracket adj rod, and (last) backout ps adj nut all the way out then replace both belts
The belts you mentioned are very confusing to me. I’m in the same boat right now fixing the belt on this stupid car. The first belt you said was too short is a 40.5” belt… the one you said worked is a 43.6”. I have a 44” and it is not even close. I have the adjusters and PS pump and alternator sucked all the way in. Got a 48” and a 50” to try
Hey thanks for the video. I am going to have to do this soon. My power steering is getting hard and squeaky and I just noticed the belt was loose. I am hoping it's just the belt being loose causing the squeak and hard turning. I am wondering why that one pully has to be loosened near the alternator? Doesn't seem like that would matter? Maybe I will see when I get hands on . Thanks again.
There has to be a reason the belt broke, or its just Normal wear and tear over Time. But, with both Belts Off you Can Check each pulley , alternator bearings ect for Stoppage or wiggling. To Know Which Pulley to Replace. There is a Reason the belt got damage
God bless you for actually explaining !!! I saw another video who just said loosen the power steering bolt and that's all😡 Stranger: can I get directions to the store. Bystander: sure just pick up your feet and walk. What's wrong with people?
cant move the alternator - there is a tight 14mm bolt at the base that I can't get a ratchet on and a regular wrench isnt long enough to grab and torque.,.. have to get a 14mm super long wrench or I am missing something
Is there a certain amount of foot pounds for the tightness of the bolts.? Or just as tight as you can make it? Like the video very informative thank you
For the power steering belt (back rod) how many bolds total shyly I take out? The rod and that bold that you show underneath only? I took the 12nm rod out but the power steering wouldn’t move! I spent half a day!
Your video is ok, but you are missing some crucial info. You mention two bolt sizes but fail to disclose the size of the side nut on adjusting rod? What is the size of that locknut??
I just bought a 2001 Nissan Sentra and the belt is squeaking when I first start the car up. Compared to my old Mercedes and my Honda accord this seems very complicated. Is the tensioner pulley an automatic one? Normally I would just use like a 17 mm socket and loosen that to put the belt on on my other cars
I never followed up but I figured it out no tensioner on these. I had to replace both but yeah every bolt has to be extremely tight for no squeaking since there’s no alternator
Got both belts off. Then got alternator belt on and tight. Now I cant seem to get the power steering belt tight.doing everything the video shows.belt is still loose
Wish I had seen this video earlier. Squealing belt on cold start up. Found the power steering adjuster laying loose on top of the belt. Took the linkage piece off and biked over to AutoZone for a metric nut. After three hours of rassling with the damn thing including biking BACK to AZ because my dumb @ss left the original linkage piece on the counter, finally get it all back together and.... it squeals just the same. Time to take a look at that alternator belt.... Thanks for the vid.
The belt looks like it slipped off the pulleys cuz theres oil on the front of the alternator and the area below it; on the the rod that adjusts the tension. It looks serious, any ideas of what it could be? Also gotta replace a wheel bearing but dont know which 1.
