Kinda cool to see Morrison carry the father dreams/guidance through and twisting it to introduce Dr. Simon Hurt with the face of Thomas Wayne and claim to be the devil himself. Let alone Bruce having the three nightmare dreams of future Batmen. I haven’t read this yet, but from this intro to Gothic I feel like Batman The Black Casebook and RIP are the books that directly act as follow up.

Super cool episode. I'm glad no one has tried to make Mr. Whisper a recurring villain, he's scarier as just a single brush with the superatural/madness.
The return of Sal’s Morrison impression and the whole section of batman having to find a better catchphrase for king of hell, greatness 😂 And the occult motifs definitely had presence throughout his Batman run.
52:56 Sals face in response to sacred geometry? Or the oddest yawn Ive ever encountered? You be the judge! lol He looks like my cat yawning when he’s disgusted with me! 😜
This is one of my favorite Batman comics! There isn't any confirmation but Mr Whisper might be a reinvention of the Mad Monk, a golden age vampire villain. They are the first supernatural Batman threats, both wear dark red, and both are obviously evil monks. Seems like something Morrison would do.
I think you have something there with the reference to the Mad Monk. Note that here, same as the original Mad Monk story, Batman had to travel to Europe to a sinister castle. And in both stories he used the bat-gyro! Also the weird contraption that Mr Whisper used with Batman can be a reference to the silly traps commonly used against Batman in the golden age comics. Finally, the cover of the third chapter is a direct homage to the cover of the original Mad Monk story.
The one may thing which I also agree on with Sal a little bit is that Batman is not responsible for all the villains that enhabits Gotham. Joker yes, but some of the others like Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and others no. Which is something that I do play with in a Elseworld story I'm working on with Batman. Keep on going strong guys and love what you do.
Grant used to cross dress in a blonde wig in the 80s which is probably explains with the mobster in the elevator (great back issues man I’m a big fan of Grant.)
"Gotham City is hell, we're all in hell and I'm the King of Hell" - Batman "Matt? Did you steal the batsuit? Is this the secret sequel of that crossover? After Bruce 'dared' you about coming to Gotham did you go and steal his stuff?" - Me "Gotham City is hell, we're all in hell and I'm the King of Hell" - Batman *meanwhile in New York another grim vigilante is out on his early days of patrol trying to work out his own spiffy dialogue* "I am the night. I am vengeance. I am DAREDEVIL!" - Daredevil
I don't know if this is true, but I feel like Tiffany always does research about a book and what was going on around it during its release. If so I really appreciate it because she always shares interesting information.
Yeah she's good about giving us broader context for a story. Couples with her analytical commentary her episodes always seem more substantive. I love sal's episodes don't get me wrong and I hunger for more ultimate Spiderman but the humanities major in me always perks up when Tiffany hosts.

Fun Fact: The Legend of the Dark knight was reprinted in a lot of Asian countries under the Batman title. They did that since they were easier to get into unlike the actual Batman title. They were also double sized. So to avoid 'to be continues'
