I have so many good memories of this one, I heard it drop first time at Bagley's nightclub Kings Cross London on white label, DJ Aerial spinning his legendary 8 hour sets on a Saturday night. When you make a remix your never quite sure until you actually see people going nuts on the dance floor, that was such a moment for me, I was never quite sure about the sonic the hedge hog riff🤣 but luckily It was engrained into everyones psyche and wow, what a reaction. 🥳

I met Matt Darey at the Sound Factory back in 97 or so. I was into hard house / tribal back then and didn’t start getting into trance until a year or 2 later. Didn’t even know who he was... I was sitting next to him in the lounge area and just struck up a convo with him and he told me his name and that it was his first time in a club in the states and told me to check out his stuff sometime. I didn’t pay it no mind until a few years later until I started seeing monsters like this come out and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I'm 59 and only just found this track after 25 years of searching. I have the vinly coming next week. One of the best tracks ever produced.
Still the most insanely ridiculous trance classic of all. No other track makes me feel so much all at the same time. It's music like this that makes me grateful to be here.
I miss the days of finding vinyl in HMV especially when they were £2.99. I remember buying my first vinyl bag in HMV, it was a Hooj Choons bag. Loved that bag.
I was too young to remember and not born for most of it but in the 90’s and the early 2000’s HMV used to sell cool 12” singles with exotic remixes and it was more interesting than now. Better times. :(
Hooj was the best label period, closely followed by twisted/tribal, I got a vestax bag free in virgin megastore one Saturday morning in 98 Carl Cox was launching vestax PDX range

Matt Carey produced some of the most iconic Trance tracks of the era. This is probably his finest, although Gamemaster is also incredible.
Grace - not over yet (matt darey remix) does it for me. So does Gabrielle - Rise (Matt Darey Remix). Dude had so many bangers during this period. What a legend.

This track basically defines the late 90's of raving for me. Its a nostalgic rush and and emotional ride hearing it every single time.

Same dude. Remember hearing it on Radio 1 when Oakey dropped it at Creamfields. Still one of my most cherished vinyls, for sentimental reasons rather than rarity. Wouldn't mind a second copy as mine is well played.

So many memories of dancing to this track just as dawn was breaking outside the club. Magical.
Had a raverkid run up to me in 1999, asking if I'd ever heard this record that the deejay was spinning before. Just days to millennium New Year's Eve and everyone was at the height of apocalypse paranoia with Y2K. I shook my head and he insisted we hold hands while I heard it - No. Scratch that. I LIVED that record that night. The amazing breakdown and buildup nearer the end told the story perfectly: the world may very well end tomorrow, but even if we saw a meteor break through the sky, we were dancing until the last moment. I ended up being so affected I drew blood with my nails in the palm of his hand and neither of us had any idea until the deejay mixed into the next track. Unreal.

Always get aching butterfly feelings deep down with a deep sense of loss everytime i go back to this track. So sad now, and i dont know why (feels like a massive opportunity in a chapter of my life has not been recognised...i dunno so..... haunting. 10/10

Okay, so I grew up playing the Sonic games as a kid, and when I first heard this in 99 (Matt's Euphoria album to be exact) it never dawned on me it was the main Sonic boss music.
It wasn't until just a few years ago actually that I looked up the original Westbam version, that it hit me. Matt totally reworked into something beautiful and uplifting, while still being structurally similar to the original. I'm not sure that many people have this type of talent. No wonder he was THE REMIX guy back then. And in retrospect, probably even greater than Ferry, mainly because Ferry's remixes while great, almost all had the same formula of modulated melodic bassline, then supersaw riff formula that worked better in some tracks and not as well on others.
Anyways both are about as good as gets. And while I love his more deeper, slower Nocturnal stuff, I hope he graces us with another 5 year or so stint of pure unaltered Trance bliss, before venturing into other musical genres again.
What. The. Fuck. One of my favourite dance tracks of all time is from Sonic 2!??!? Mind blown.
