Hoisin is def more of a cooking ingredient than a dipping or side condiment. You’ve prob had plenty of chinese food with hoisin in it. I use it as an ingredient when i make lettuce wraps. You might stir fry tofu with it etc..
Tim might want to try it as part of a marinade or glaze, like ribs. Personally, I'd add it as an ingredient to marinate tofu/tempeh in a stir fry dish with lots of veggies. Maybe Katie would like to try it that way, too.
Hoisin is used a lot in Chinese marinades. Usually mixed with oyster sauce, soy, ginger, garlic etc. it’s also used in stir fry sauces. Lots of recipes online.
Hoisin sauce is usually used in recipes in Asian cooking…I use it in stir fry and noodles dishes for that umami punch. It’s strong so probably don’t use as a dipping sauce unless you mix it with other things to create a sauce that’s tamed down.
I would love to see a grouping of blueberry food items. They could produce tea, sparkling juice, baked goodies, breakfast cereal, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc.
I think cranberry items would be great! Cranberry yogurt, cranberry fruit spread, cranberry ice cream & sherbet, cranberry sheet cake, muffins, etc. would probably be perfect for the upcoming holiday season! They do have the seasonal cranberry relish and sauce, so how about more cranberry items!! Also, Tim mentioned something about Apple ice cream! That is one flavor of ice cream that I have never seen before! That’s definitely something that Trader Joe’s should come up with. Or at least Häagen-Dazs!
Hoisin sauce is really good with moo sho. Traditionally it’s Moo Shu pork, but I do it with vegetables and there are many recipes online. It’s really delicious. I also use it on any stir fried noodle/vegetable dishes. I can’t wait to buy this!
I found it a overpoweringly salty, as is. If I had it plain, I'd thin it with sour cream. I added some as well as grilled chicken strips to my Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese. Next I think I'll spread some on a piece of naan, add some plain chicken to up the meatiness and put in the toaster oven for a bagel cycle or two.
Thank you Katie & Tim for posting your TJ hauls before the weekend - So helpful. We got the chicken bacon ranch dip and ate 1/2 the container for lunch today! For peeps doing low carb they are going to go crazy for this stuff! Appreciate you. ❤
I think it wouod he great if Trader Joe's focused on some more apple flavored items. I like pumpkin spice, but I'm not obsessed with it the way Trader Joe's is!
Harlow with the long stretchy walk😂😂I love to see your animals. Please Katie, can you do a video showcasing the pets with their names, ages, favorite things, etc?? Including the chickens!! 😉❤❤
Love that you are two different in your eating tastes but make it work. It would not fly in my house so Katie you are lucky. Love that Tim gives it all a try & is a good sport. No idea on the next flavor profile.
Happy Sunday Katie and Tim! Love your festive shirts! Love the fall pumpkin haul taste test. I would love the broccoli bake for sure. I'm like you too much of one flavor like the pumpkin can be a lot. I would like blueberry or apple, apple cinnamon items more. Have a great rest of your weekend. 😊
Guava guava everything would be amazing. Guava is such a wonderful flavor. It goes sweet and savory like guava barbecue sauce is amazing and then guava cookies. Oh I love guava.
Agree on guava. Would like to see This Guava Walks Into A Bar, Guava O's, gluten-free Guava Muffins & Guava Ketchup next summer. In Winter, I'd go with Blood Orange as the featured flavor.
The broccoli bake has not arrived at my Trader Joe's yet. Hopefully it will be there next weekend. Can't wait to try it. Tim, heat the dip up. Takes it to a whole new level. Key lime would be my flavor choice for summer.
Y'all are so cute! You have to be in love to have two different eating profiles. Lol! I hope TJ comes out with cinnamon! I love lots of things with cinnamon. 🤞
I'm a summer girl through and through. Michigan summers are too, too short and I go into mourning. Your content and TJ Fall Hauls, in particular, helps ease my pain. My flavor suggestion would be more mocha or coffee flavored treats. Love you Hespes!!
Awesome taste test! I can't wait to try that broccoli kit!! I love fruit, so I'd go for one of my favorites: guava! They already had that sparkling guava juice this summer, which I loved. But that said, I also love passionfruit.
hoisin is usually used a lot in vietnamese cooking - katie if you make like veggies rice paper summer rolls, hoisin is usually mixed with like peanut butter for the dipping sauce! its also used as a sauce inside pho. :)
I look forward to your taste tests each week. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Wow, that’s a tough question. I would say ether pomegranate or cranberry flavors. Guava would be great as well. I heard they are replacing the enchiladas sauce with a different one. 😩. Have a great week
Hi ...Polly from S.C...The question of the day answer IS RASPBERRY....YUM.. put hoison sauce on stir fry veggiesx with a little soy sauce....yum also...
Hoisin sauce is mainly used in Asian foods. You can use it as a glaze to grill pork. You can also mix it with soy sauce, Chinese vinegar, chili crunch & the chili oil for a dumpling dipping sauce. You also can use hoisin sauce with peanut butter, chii sauce or chili crunch, sesame oil, cilantro & green onions over cold noodles & garnish with peanuts. You can also mix it with soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil & sriracha & some corn starch to thicken if you need it for a stir fry. There are lots of uses for it. I hope this helps.
Pumpkin loaf and pumpkin bread are the same thing. Loaf is just the type of pan that it’s cooked in. Therefore it is in the shape of a loaf. Also, is the cream cheese frosting on the pumpkin spice cake sweet or not?! Right after you took the first bite you said it was too sweet and then you said that it’s just-like whipped cream cheese with a little bit of sugar in it and that it’s not sweet.
For winter, I’d love an orange (the fruit) theme. They could do Agua de Valencia, candied orange peels, orange flavored tea, etc. I don’t think they would, though, because they already have orange stuff in their regular line-up.
Hoisin is like a Chinese barbecue sauce that you can mix with other Asian sauces and ingredients to make a bbq/stirfry sauce or a glaze for veggies, tofu or meat.
Im surprised you weren’t familiar with hoisin sauce. You dont eat it like that straight out of the jar. 😅 We add A TOUCH to stir fry and fried rice while cooking. Delicious plum flavor similar to tamirind in Indian food.
I find the frosting on the mini sheet cakes to be very sweet, also. If you want a pumpkin spice cake for during the holidays, I'd suggest either making one from scratch OR buying a box of spice cake mix, a can of pumpkin puree, 1 egg, swap out the oil and water from the box mix instructions and use either milk or your preferred plant based milk, melted butter instead of the oil, add more spice if you like, and bake. Instead of pre-made frosting which is super sweet, get a half block of room temp cream cheese, half a stick of butter, some vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and powder sugar to taste, mix until fluffy and frost your cake once cooled. I know those instructions were probably not the best, I was just going from memory. But I hope it gives you an idea for a good shortcut cake and a decent idea for a quick and easy homemade cream cheese frosting. I saw two comments that I totally agree with, I do wish Trader Joe's would do more apple flavor items in the fall, as well as blackberry items at the end of summer transitioning into fall would both be nice.
When you asked for a flavor theme, my husband liked the bacon idea too. What really surprised me is that I said “passion fruit “ right before you Katie!
I love hoisan sauce but you need to cook it on something, not eat it as you did. What I often do is mix a couple tablespoons hoisan with tamari, grated fresh ginger, and garlic and let tofu sit in the mixture, then cook. You can use that on any meat for Tim. I am positive you have had hoisan as it is often used in Asian /Thai/ etc food.
Raley's/Nob Hill makes a sparkling passionfruit (like the watermelon at TJ). They also make a watermelon, mango and peach. The flavors seem to be all year round to satisfy your hubby when the watermelon goes away.
Use the hoisiin and a little soy to coat chicken wings or cauliflower then blacken them. The blackening almost caramelizes it and cuts down on the sweetness. Add a light drizzle of hot honey and sesame seeds.
Finally thought of an answer: I love finding items that are honeydew flavored. Gimme some sorbet, popsicles, Taffy, bread... TJs could do a round of melon items!
If you eat Pho, add a little Hoisin sauce to it. That’s what’s offered at restaurants that serve Pho. That’s the only thing that I know it tastes good in.
Hosin sauce tastes great with the Vietnamese noodle dish called pho. You can also use it to stir fry with vegetables and noodles aka making chow mein for example
I think Hoisin sauce is usually mixed with other things to make stir fry sauces and things like that, not eaten straight. Things like soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, ginger etc.
Hi Katie and Tim! Hoisin sauce can be really delicious when used as an ingredient in cooking. There are good recipes online. I've used it when stir-frying vegetables, adding a small amount of hoisin sauce,, and also adding garlic, tamari sauce, and ground black pepper. If you bake or sauté tofu, a similar blended sauce with hoisin, tamari or soy, garlic, and black pepper can be good with tofu and veggies. Hoisin can be a good component of sauces for meats for people who are omnivores, too - it's good on chicken and pork. Thanks for the video!
I’ve had hoisin sauce all my life in restaurants here in ny. It’s sweet but smoky and it’s served most often here as a condiment for moo shu pork pancakes
I've always had hoisin sauce with either mu shu or Peking Duck, but I think it would be great in salad dressings or marinades. Tim, the dip is waaay better warmed up!! As for the flavor, I've wished for either raspberry or cherry anything!
I liked the apple shortbread cookies. I soaked them in Vanilla Almond milk- Malk brand. They were good. My son and mom liked them too. I’d enjoy a strawberry shortbread cookie.
Hoisin sauce is made from a variety of ingredients, including: Fermented soybean paste: The primary ingredient in hoisin sauce Starches: Such as sweet potato, wheat, or rice Sugar: A key ingredient in hoisin sauce Water: A key ingredient in hoisin sauce Sesame seeds: A key ingredient in hoisin sauce White distilled vinegar: A key ingredient in hoisin sauce Salt: A key ingredient in hoisin sauce Garlic: A key ingredient in hoisin sauce Red chili peppers: A key ingredient in hoisin sauce Preservatives or coloring agents: Sometimes added to hoisin sauce It’s used with a mix of other products to enhance the taste.
Hoisin is def more of a cooking ingredient than a dipping or side condiment. You’ve prob had plenty of chinese food with hoisin in it. I use it as an ingredient when i make lettuce wraps. You might stir fry tofu with it etc..
Yeah. Or a stirfry sauce. I’ve never eaten hoisin sauce by itself. I think some people put a small amount in pho as well.
Major ingredient in kung pao dishes.
Tim might want to try it as part of a marinade or glaze, like ribs. Personally, I'd add it as an ingredient to marinate tofu/tempeh in a stir fry dish with lots of veggies. Maybe Katie would like to try it that way, too.
Also a condiment served with Pho
I love hoisin sauce with my vegetarian mooshu. (Sp) I just put some on the pancake and then put the food over it. It’s delicious.
Ginger/Gingerbread flavor would be a great addition to the fall holiday season.
Hoisin is used a lot in Chinese marinades. Usually mixed with oyster sauce, soy, ginger, garlic etc. it’s also used in stir fry sauces. Lots of recipes online.
NOTHING BETTER than maple 🍁!!! I LIVE for anything maple! Heavens smell & flavor!!! 🤩
I love adding Hoisin sauce to stir fry (think Chinese) while cooking. It is great paired with soy sauce.
We loved the carrot cake mini sheet cake with cream cheese frosting.
I would love to see tons of cinnamon items!
Hoisin sauce is usually used in recipes in Asian cooking…I use it in stir fry and noodles dishes for that umami punch. It’s strong so probably don’t use as a dipping sauce unless you mix it with other things to create a sauce that’s tamed down.
Lavender for summer! It's great in so many foods or drinks
Im shocked u didn’t love the sheet cake it’s THE BEST SHEET CAKE!!! 🍰🎂 watch I every week keep up the good work
I’m shocked I wasn’t a big fan either! I was expecting to love it. To be fair I don’t eat many sweets these days so my taste buds may have changed.
I think Blackberry should be the next fruity flavor they focus on because it is extremely underrated and not too sweet :)
I would love to see a grouping of blueberry food items. They could produce tea, sparkling juice, baked goodies, breakfast cereal, fruit snacks, granola bars, etc.
I would love to see Gingerbread/cinnamon and maybe blackberry. Can't wait to try the broccoli bake thanks to Tim loving it so much!!!!
I would love to see Butterscotch stuff!
Aldi has apple ice cream right now.
I've had a cranberry Wensleydale cheese so it could also be in a cheese. Great idea!
My vote is for Blackberry!!!
Hoisin sauce is really good with moo sho. Traditionally it’s Moo Shu pork, but I do it with vegetables and there are many recipes online. It’s really delicious. I also use it on any stir fried noodle/vegetable dishes. I can’t wait to buy this!
You HAVE to warm that dip up to release all the flavor. Follow package instructions to warm up. It’s Yum.😊
Butterscotch for sweet or avocado for savory!
I would love everything chai flavored!
I think pistachio would be amazing
Love that your cat was slinking around the whole video ❤😂
The chicken bacon ranch dip is 1000 times better heated!!
I think it says that on the label ... or did I imagine that?
Yup. Just arrived at that point in the video! 😁
Oh wow, I’m surprised you all didn’t like the pumpkin sheet cake. I thought it was delicious.
Hoisin is Japanese barbecue sauce. I love it in marinades for stir fries❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My friend just gave me some of those Maple Pancake Snaps to try ... as a maple lover, soo delicious!
Katie says that cream cheese frosting tastes more like cream cheese than frosting? Sign me up!
It sounds like it's more of a carrot cake-type frosting, which makes sense with pumpkin cake. I would like it too.
Pumpkin loaf with some whipped cream and a bit of cinnamon sprinkled on top. With pumpkin spiced coffee
Guava guava everything would be amazing.
Guava is such a wonderful flavor. It goes sweet and savory like guava barbecue sauce is amazing and then guava cookies. Oh I love guava.
Guava is great--and versatile. It makes me think of Hawaii.
Agree on guava. Would like to see This Guava Walks Into A Bar, Guava O's, gluten-free Guava Muffins & Guava Ketchup next summer. In Winter, I'd go with Blood Orange as the featured flavor.
Hoisin is like Asian barbecue sauce maybe try it on roasted tofu or chicken thighs
No honey in the coconut clusters. Read ingredients before saying that, especially for folks like me that are allergic to honey.
That mini sheet cake is delicious!
I would love love the coffee Jo Jo’s to come back!

Awesome taste test! I can't wait to try that broccoli kit!!
I love fruit, so I'd go for one of my favorites: guava! They already had that sparkling guava juice this summer, which I loved. But that said, I also love passionfruit.
MMM.....PASSIONFRUIT ANYTHING!!!
I use ground up pork rinds instead of panko mixed with ground turkey for turkey burgers. The chili lime flavor could be interesting.
hoisin is usually used a lot in vietnamese cooking - katie if you make like veggies rice paper summer rolls, hoisin is usually mixed with like peanut butter for the dipping sauce! its also used as a sauce inside pho. :)
I look forward to your taste tests each week. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Wow, that’s a tough question. I would say ether pomegranate or cranberry flavors. Guava would be great as well. I heard they are replacing the enchiladas sauce with a different one. 😩. Have a great week
More blueberry! Especially after trying Trader Joe’s amazing blueberry scones!
Love this question. I vote coconut! Or almond. And for the hoisin sauce it's traditionally used in Pho
Hi ...Polly from S.C...The question of the day answer IS RASPBERRY....YUM.. put hoison sauce on stir fry veggiesx with a little soy sauce....yum also...

CHERRY 🍒
How about putting cream cheese on a slice of pumpkin loaf?
I think they should do Strawberry Rhubarb!!! I love Rhubarb ❤❤❤
AGREE!!
The strawberry-rhubarb hand pies were fabulous!
Hoisin sauce is typical paired with Beef and broccoli as a stir fry you can add chili pepper for a sweet and spicy flavor or beef tips in hoisin
Love the apple cookies! 🍏 🍎
You don't usually eat hosin sauce on it's own like soya sauce. It's added to stir-fry sauces
Exactly! I was like- what are they doing?? 😅

Thank you both for a great tester! Katie, love your lip color and the liner color as well. Could you please share!!!
I'm hooked on the chili lime pork rinds and also the thai peanut satay sauce. Those are my most recent favs from TJ's.
Hoisin is like a Chinese barbecue sauce that you can mix with other Asian sauces and ingredients to make a bbq/stirfry sauce or a glaze for veggies, tofu or meat.
The chicken, bacon ranch sauce is even better healed up
Flavor? More peach!
I agree with Katie on the passion fruit trend!
Key Lime would be amazing
I think pesto, all garlic jalapeño, or Parmesan might really work for appetizers, snacks, cheeses, sauces, etc.
Ok y’all are crazy. 😉that sheet cake is delish.
Can’t think of a specific flavor but I love 💕 sweets
I think the flavor you're getting from the maple cookie is the OG waffle crisp cereal from the 90's early 2000
I love real maple syrup but so many maple flavored things I've tried seem to have a very fake taste that I don't like.
Would love an orange spice flavor almost like. The orange clove pomander they made in days of yore. Imagine that in a chocolate shortbread
Im surprised you weren’t familiar with hoisin sauce. You dont eat it like that straight out of the jar. 😅
We add A TOUCH to stir fry and fried rice while cooking. Delicious plum flavor similar to tamirind in Indian food.
Came here to say just that! 😅
Brown butter!

Hoisin is so good with Duck wraps, or for vegetarians any green veggies like sauteed beans
When you asked for a flavor theme, my husband liked the bacon idea too. What really surprised me is that I said “passion fruit “ right before you Katie!
Re Pumpkin Loaf- try it with whipped cream cheese.🎃
Hoisin is good as a sautéed sauce with other ingredients I use it with vegetables and tofu
Hoisen is plum sauce used in bbq pork with rice
Hoisin sauce is used with mu shu dishes with the pancakes just put a little on top. And it may need some water to make it more of a liquid
If you mix the hoisin with peanut butter, ginger, garlic - you get a nice peanut sauce for dipping Vietnamese spring rolls or salad rolls.
I love hoisan sauce but you need to cook it on something, not eat it as you did. What I often do is mix a couple tablespoons hoisan with tamari, grated fresh ginger, and garlic and let tofu sit in the mixture, then cook. You can use that on any meat for Tim. Love the outfits!
Hoisin sauce, you only need a tiny bit. Make summer rolls and dip them in the sauce.
@@AllisonFields-s7m great idea…spring rolls or such too 💡
If you eat Pho, add a little Hoisin sauce to it. That’s what’s offered at restaurants that serve Pho. That’s the only thing that I know it tastes good in.

Exactly
I want them to do Buffalo and specifically a Buffalo sauce!!!! I know they have a few random Buffalo products but I want more hahaha
Hoisin is often used in Asian cooking. It’s an ingredient in General Tso’s Chicken and others.
Hi Katie and Tim! Hoisin sauce can be really delicious when used as an ingredient in cooking. There are good recipes online. Pineapple and blueberry my favorite fruits.

I'd toast pumpkin bread and either put cream cheese and cinnamon or pumpkin butter on top.
I liked the apple shortbread cookies. I soaked them in Vanilla Almond milk- Malk brand. They were good. My son and mom liked them too. I’d enjoy a strawberry shortbread cookie.
My husband makes dried cranberry-pecan shortbread cookies--AWESOME!
I agree with Tim,more BACON stuff!
