Greetings from Scotland! Diana was 15yo here! Fifteen! For 13 years professional people have been saying the same thing! "How does she do that?" She is the Russian phenomenon - Diana Dmitrievna Ankudinova and she can do things vocally that other top singers can only dream about, but HOW! Well, here's a little back story of her - just for you Britt! This is not so you feel sorry, but so you understand what "created" Diana. Diana is 19yo currently but I've been following her since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has a 4 octave range and it's increasing. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices coming out of her at the same time! A VERY special singer, a VERY unique singer! Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) she dragged her to a bus stop with a broken collarbone and abandoned her, saying "Survive if you can" A passing relative took her in but because she cried constantly (naturally with a broken collarbone) she took her to the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. Britt, this Wicked Game live performance happened when Diana Ankudinova was only 15 years old in May 2019. When she took part in a talent show for disadvantaged teens called You Are Super ending with her winning the competition. Diana's performance showed she is well on her way to a true contralto voice type. In 2018 Diana was 14 and first competed in the You Are Super competition singing the Russian folk song, Rechenka which she sang in her native Russian. It was during this 2018 performance of Rechenka that some voice professional’s started saying, Diana was showing a low, rich, deep, and resonant sound, and her musicality, would in a few more years show she is a true contralto voice type. Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range which kept her out of the more prestigious vocal academies, and after several prestigious music school rejections, she decided with her voice teacher to concentrate on improving her higher range. There are other performances of Diana in vocal competitions, and performing in concerts. She also recorded videos that were done in her home studio during the pandemic lockdowns that are stripped down, without any of the major flash, fashion, or production value of competitions or concerts. Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Why Ankunadova? Diana's last name should be pronounced as An-koo-dee-nava. The stress falls on 'dee' (3rd syllable). The song is great and the performance is fantastic. Greetings from Scotland! Diana was 15yo here! Fifteen! For 13 years professional people have been saying the same thing! "How does she do that?" She is the Russian phenomenon - Diana Dmitrievna Ankudinova and she can do things vocally that other top singers can only dream about, but HOW! Well, here's a little back story of her - just for you Britt! This is not so you feel sorry, but so you understand what "created" Diana.
Diana is 19yo currently but I've been following her since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she now has a 4 octave range and it's increasing. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices coming out of her at the same time! A VERY special singer, a VERY unique singer!
Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) she dragged her to a bus stop with a broken collarbone and abandoned her, saying "Survive if you can" A passing relative took her in but because she cried constantly (naturally with a broken collarbone) she took her to the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage!
This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. Diana was 15 when she had the second appearance on this show. The gentleman who waited so long until he pushed the buzzer is Igor Krutoy, pianist, composer and super-rich music mogul. He was trying to be polite and waited for a pause in the music to avoid interrupting the beautiful flow of the song. He later mentored Diana by paying the rent for an appartment in Moscow so she could attend music college to study singing, composition, and music production.
The year before, Diana had already appeared at the same show with a daring rendition of the Russian traditional Rechenka, which is a must-watch for any Diana beginner.
Another contribution to a composition is a radical re-interpretation of Elvis Presley's song Can't Help Falling In Love, where Diana explores the dark sides of love, contrasting the traditional romantic interpretations - perfect for her voice.
She has shown her biggest versatility in one song in her first all-original production Revelation, result of a project for her music studies, which turned out to be so good that she decided to publish it on TH-cam.

Britt, this Wicked Game live performance happened when Diana Ankudinova was only 15 years old in May 2019. When she took part in a talent show for disadvantaged teens called You Are Super ending with her winning the competition. Diana's performance showed she is well on her way to a true contralto voice type.
In 2018 Diana was 14 and first competed in the You Are Super competition singing the Russian folk song, Rechenka which she sang in her native Russian. It was during this 2018 performance of Rechenka that some voice professional’s started saying, Diana was showing a low, rich, deep, and resonant sound, and her musicality, would in a few more years show she is a true contralto voice type.
Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range which kept her out of the more prestigious vocal academies, and after several prestigious music school rejections, she decided with her voice teacher to concentrate on improving her higher range.

She also recorded videos that were done in her home studio during the pandemic lockdowns that are stripped down, without any of the major flash, fashion, or production value of competitions or concerts. Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. Diana (Dee-Aana) was adopted by a very loving family that loved her dearly and when it was suggest that music might be what she needed, they grasped at it. The rest after this is history. She is a TRUE contralto and polyphonic as well. You should listen to 'Rechenka (River)' at age 14. She was 15 years old here.
