    Omg you had me cracking up with the pine sol reference!!! Lol definitely can relate to that. Another combo was the sound of salsa and the vacuum cleaner on Saturday mornings.

    Made these tonight finally and they were amazing! I really liked everything blended first before adding the beans. I don't like chunks in mine either, so this is a great way to do it. First time I made black beans from scratch and hubby absolutely loved them! Thanks for yet another keeper! =]

    Awesome! Just give me a bowl of rice and I'm good to go. How do you keep your beans from breaking so well Julie? That's some skills right there. Black beans are really fragile.

    • @Cookedbyjulie
      @Cookedbyjulie  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not overcooking them I'm assuming. That's a great question, I never thought of black beans being fragile until now that you mention it.

      They're called azuki beans. You mix them with lots of sugar and they are used as a filling in the deserts.

    I've never tried any black beans that I actually liked. They always seem so flavorless... almost bitter in some cases. THIS however... I think this may be the black bean recipe I've always been missing in my life. Never thought i'd salivate over black beans.
    It must be you Julie. I don't think you're capable of making anything that doesn't look delicious.

    • @Cookedbyjulie

      Cookedbyjulie Finally tried the black beans with the sugar and they were great! I did put a little too much sofrito and instead of the $2 white wine I had to use a 2009 Rivebank Riesling which was actually pretty good. I accompany it with white rice and a broiled beef flank which I marinated for 45min in a 2009 Calina Reserva Carmenere with diced garlic. This experienced has taught me to move from the $2 cooking wines. Thanks for the recipe for both the beans and the sofrito. I still need to try the tomato sauce (didn't have any and was too lazy to make it.)

    • @Cookedbyjulie
      @Cookedbyjulie  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so glad you liked it! Black beans and flank steak go so good together! I love using flank for ropa vieja. I have to try marinating flank in wine. That sounds delicious :)

    Julie,yοu could also have soaked your beans from the previous day (or even more),that would fasten the process (and save some more energy) and would make beans much easier to digest (and less gas issues).
    Also soaking the beans improves the healthy nutritions they cointain.Check the 2nd paragraph

    • @phylliswatkins2787

      Gracias Juan Martinez! I was going to mention that above but thought the better of it. Several Cuban "mamitas" (friends' mothers) taught me how to make frijoles, arroz con pollo and ropa vieja and NOT ONE OF THEM ever used cilantro in anything! Now I see it on tv cooking shows and I'm thinking, what? When did this start, when leaving the island and moving to the States and got influenced by Mexican cuisine? but I'm with you, no tomatoes in the beans and def. no cilantro (thank goodness, it tastes soapy).
