I've been listening to Freberg's recordings for about as long as I ran remember but this is the first time I saw a TV version of the skit. As always it's fantastic. It's hard not to enjoy something Stan created.

I know. I don't think I've ever seen Daws Butler in live action. Known that voice for 50 years, never saw the face.

Freberg was a comic genius and satirist. And of course June Forey went on to famously voice Rocket J. Squirrel of "Rocky and Bullwinkle", and Daws Butler voicing many cartoon characters, most notably Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound , Snagglepuss, Elroy Jetson and others.

“Weird Al” Yankovic definitely had a lot of Stan Freberg records when he was growing up

Had no idea that Stan and company actually performed this live. Actually seeing them on camera performing this (and St. George and the Dragonet) is a rare treat.

Never heard of this live TV performance - what a gem! I wonder what else exists by the late, great Stan Greberf.... (That's from The Chun King Chinese Chow Mein Hour).

Nowadays Blue would also have a folding stock snub barrel AR15 with extra clips.

I would like to know too. I've never seen Stan Freberg of this era on TV. Great team of Stan Freberg, Daws Butler and June Foray. A few years later, Stan would be on TV quite a bit in successful commercials.

Neither. Sorry to take so long to get back to you but I just saw your question. It's from an appearance on Ed Sullivan's Toast of the Town 27 September 1953

Most likely a 50s or 60s variety show, like Milton Berle, Ed Sullivan, or Hollywood Palace. Maybe even Steve Allen or Tonight.

Remember this one? "I'm booking you on a 412. 412? What's a 412? Overacting. (St. George and the Dragonette)

For years, in the engineering firm where I worked, my boss and I were of more or less the same age, and had both brown up on the old Stan Freberg parody recordings. One of our favorites was to bellow "WHAT's....A....FOUR....TWELVE?!?!" at the drop of a hat....often in meetings, where everyone else thought we were nuts. It helped that the number 412 came up quite often, as it was a common numerical prefix to certain categories of engineering drawing numbers at our firm, and also the model number of a particular piece of equipment from a vendor we often bought from, and it was also the phone extension for building services.
For those that don't know, the exchange:
Detective (St. George), "I'm booking you on a 412."
      Dragon, yelling, "412 ???.... What's a 412 ?!?!?!"
      Detective, "Overacting."
Came from the other Dragnet parody (besides the "Little Blue Riding Hood" parody in this video) called "St. George and the Dragonet". I don't know offhand which one came out first.

I believe St. George was the reverse of the recording of Blue.
