  • Francis Ngannou talks about the physical and emotinoal fallout from his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua, how he felt after getting knocked down the first time, the unusually long wait for the fight to start, whether he felt more nervous for the fight with title shot on line, how he broke from tradition and watched the fight, whether Joshua would beat Tyson Fury, if he’s annoyed by revisionist history of his boxing career, whether the fight was the biggest payday of his career, when he can fight again, his desire to fight Tyson Fury, his reaction to the announcement he’d fight the winner of Ryan Bader vs. Renan Ferreira, whether his PFL contract requires him to fight in MMA this year, whether he regrets anything about the fight, and more.

Joshua in the Ruiz 1 fight had an operation after. They've never said or made excuses for what it was. He said if he does a book he'll say but respect that he never used it as an excuse.

Francis didn't just recover from the shock that he could get knocked down in the 1st round, second that his not been knocked down before...but, overall, if he looks at that fight very well, he would realise that his reaction time and techniques got better than his Fury fight.
Francis just needs to take it that AJ was the better man that night, not dwell too much on the defeat and come back mentally strong for what is to come with PFL. I personally feel like he has a busy 2 years ahead of him with the landscape of MMA and boxing considering his ambition.

Very true. This is what makes boxing very dangerous. A doctor said it’s safer to be brutally knocked out in the first rounds than to take a whole 12 round lopsided beat down from the other opponent. One can be concussed but be extremely tuff and continue the fight and take on going punishment and suffer greatly for it later. Take boxer Patrick day for example, can’t believe his video is still on TH-cam but he died after his knockout in the later rounds. Only 26 or 27 years old.

I think Francis's MMA instincts worked against him. He was doing massive parry's particularly with AJ's body shots and it left huge gaps in his defence. He'll get better and learn better boxing instincts over time. Even Ben Davison believes he improved massively and would give most heavyweights a hard time. Tighten up his defence and don't react so much to feints and i think he could be a real force in boxing over the next few years. This i think is a valuable learning experience for him.

Francis stood at the center ring to challenge AJ, he clearly underestimated AJ which was the beginning of his downfall, AJ performed better because he even overrated him and prepared for a hitman that can punch very hard. I still don’t understand what he’s saying about not being in that fight. Francis practically traded with AJ at the beginning of the fight and he even looked a lot sharper compared to Fury fight. That straight right hand was something he didn’t see coming and it was too clean. Everyone should watch the highlights again, Francis was in that fight and a lot sharper, that knockdown changed everything. He’s just too arrogant and in self denial to admit AJ’s power.

      - The fight was a 3am
      - I drank a bottle of wine last night and was hung over
      See a pattern?
What Francis said was that he wasn’t feeling mentally there. Have you ever had a bad day at the office? A presentation gone wrong? A date gone wrong because you were too nervous? That’s essentially what Francis was relating.
Here’s the difference: He didn’t put the blame on anyone or anything else, other than how he was feeling. Look up internal vs external locus of control.

The training camp wasn’t good because your guard was all over the place and you switched stance like it was nothing expecting to confuse AJ.
Dude, AJ just fought one of the best Southpaws ever, he’s bitter about it and wants his belts back. You honestly think he’s not been working on how to defeat Southpaws. Right now AJ’s on one and he ain’t going to let no mma fighter mug him off by disrespecting him. Unless you’re Crawford, no boxer going to start switching stances in front of someone that has won most his fights by knockout.
When someone in sparring starts with all that bs of switching stances, they are saying they don’t respect you. When that happens, you apply pressure and don’t allow someone to start getting comfortable. It’s not rocket science. It’s one of the most basic things you get taught in an amateur boxing club, are you right handed or left handed, stop switching because you’ll get confused 🫤 and end up in trouble
