    Gasoline isn't explosive, unless the vapors are pressurized in a confined space. A spark will not cause a gas station to explode, otherwise they'd be exploding every time someone starts their engine after filling up. Gas stations obviously made up that excuse to delay their transition to EMV readers.

    • @GamersTrue
      @GamersTrue 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      So why no smoking in stations

    • @Donnyvoon
      @Donnyvoon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Austin Wang because Gasoline can be flammable not explosive and people tend to throw their half lit cigarettes on the ground

    • @brownj0002
      @brownj0002 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fedsanity Yeah, I guess they use non-flammable gas in other countries. Or something.
      Not the same things we have- like gasoline and electricity. Otherwise they would explode already. Um... anybody buy that?

    • @brownj0002
      @brownj0002 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Definently Not Naruto - Yep. If the fumes are bad and you light up right there in the path - especially if you spill gas (like people often did before the auto-cut off switches worked well) then... flame on!
      I think there are some good gas station videos showing this.

    This is standard here in Ireland, magnetic cards aren't accepted anywhere over here.

    • @CheeseBae
      @CheeseBae 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** No big deal. When I go over there I just withdraw from an ATM and pay with cash. ATM cards still work.

    • @ailinos
      @ailinos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Justin H I guess but constantly going to an ATM is far from convenient plus ATM fees are usually quite high.

    • @CheeseBae
      @CheeseBae 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Not if you plan accordingly and take out enough money. Trust me, I did it and I didn't have any problems.

    • @nameless-user
      @nameless-user 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Justin H The problem is, ATMs that use magnetic card readers can _and have been_ compromised en masse in the US. It's extremely easy for somebody to install a card skimmer onto or into an ATM and mount a camera in a location that can observe your PIN.

    • @CheeseBae
      @CheeseBae 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** It's not very common. There's a risk associated with everything, including carrying cash around. If you're really that worried about it, use the ATMs located inside of trustworthy banks, as criminals are less likely to install skimmers with numerous cameras and security guards present.

  • @nameless-user
    @nameless-user 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    +Annabelle Online, it's mostly the same. Offline, however, it's more secure than a stripe card, as it's much harder to get a duplicate of the data on the chip. Plus, if it's a Chip-and-PIN card, the PIN will be required to make in-person purchases, adding an extra layer of security on top. If you're referring to chip-and-signature, however, you absolutely have a point.

    i dont get it. debit cards already have 4 digit pins. why not just make the credit approval at the point of sale also pin protected? the chip just slows the process first if all. and it makes people more identifiable by purchases rather than making things more secure. i smell garbage.

    • @CreditcardsUS
      @CreditcardsUS  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Ray Van Link PINs would make the process even more secure than a signature. But the chip does not make you any more identifiable than your magnetic stripe does. Any purchase you make on a credit card already goes to the credit card issuer. EMV chips replace your personal information with a unique code every time you use the card -- so your information can't be skimmed at the register and used by thieves to make counterfeit cards.

      Thanks for the reply. Concerning the "more identifiable" comment I will cede you that point. Lol, that was just the "conspiracy theorist" in me talking😂. But completely I understand what you mean, and i guess my real question would be this:
      The criminal elements of the world seem to always be a step ahead of the defensive measures placed as their obstacles. What then is going to be the difference in the chip and the stripe? What happens when they figure out how to commit identity theft with duplicate chips?

    • @pete5668
      @pete5668 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The machine doesn't respond when I put the card in, chip end first, even after multiple attempts. I don't have time. I just use the strip.

    • @Phoen1x883
      @Phoen1x883 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ray Van Link Duplicating the chip in an EMV card is incredibly difficult. You can't just hook it up to a computer and copy the data off it (its data storage is protected from access from outside), so if you want to copy the data from it, you'd need to tear it apart and try to read it out with an electron microscope. You obviously can't return it to the owner after that, and they'll just report the card as stolen, making the data useless.

    Smaller places can install atm machines and say cash only. or they say we just accept 1 credit only it can be American Express or Discover yes these cards have higher swipe fees but less cardmembers so overall they could make more money and see more cash.

    • @pete5668
      @pete5668 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes but the store atms usually carry hefty fees, like $5 per transaction.

    • @johndaniels6347
      @johndaniels6347 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Businesses have to pay to transport and deposit the cash they have which is why they offer you cashback because it's cheaper to accept cards than transport cash.

    I just use Samsung Pay. It's way easier and less time consuming than inserting your card into that slot. Just hover it over the reader and boom!

    • @Sulfen
      @Sulfen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spencer Andersen Samsung and Apple Pay are amazing. It's a shame that so few places accept it.

    • @spencerandersen271
      @spencerandersen271 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sulfen
      Samsung Pay is accepted in slightly more places since it works on traditional mag stripe terminals. It won't work at places where your card number is manually entered, places where you hand your card off (sit-down restaurants like Ruby Tuesday's) or places where you insert your card into a slot (like gas stations or car washes).
      But if you shop at most grocery stores, Walmart or Trader Joe's you'll be fine . And Ziosk (the company that makes those handy tablets at Chili's) said they'd enable NFC payments like Apple or Android Pay in the future.

    I don't know about secure. I payed with a chip card a couple of times at the store and the transactions gets approved with out a pin. Or the cashier asking me for an identification card. I think it's easier for somebody to go out shopping with your card if you end up losing it.

  • @mattattackcat45

    Yea the switch liability would be great IF THE FLIPPING MACHINES DIDNT COST A FORTUNE, so now I don't have a machine in my business anymore I just manually type it.

    • @Sulfen
      @Sulfen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mattattackcat45 isn't there a larger transaction fee if you type it manually? You might save money in the long runny getting one if you do get charged a higher fee.

    What a load of garbage. This isn't secure. It's only for tracking purposes

    • @brownj0002
      @brownj0002 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Not Sure um... what is added so they can track you better than the magnetic stripe? do traffic lights read the chips as your drive past? sounds like we need to wrap our wallets in tin foil?
      ...because I think the chip approach means the merchant computers are not storing your actual credit card number, but the temporary placeholder created by the chip (or bank)... and that would be more secure than it is today.
      Every merchant where you swipe is saving your entire CC# and sometimes the CIV number off the back (in violation of the CC rules and PCI law but some software does it anyway). Same with the intermediate card processors- and those places get hacked and lose millions of CC#'s at a time. So those places not having your CC# in their computers is a bad idea?
      If you want you can suspect that big brother has instant access to all financial transactions, i.e. without a warrant, but this is just swapping one set of numbers (never changing today) with other numbers (many changes daily) that are harder to cross-reference. Please provide good technical data that says otherwise if you can - I am open to more info if it is valid. Otherwise all I hear is "get the tin foil".

    • @nunyabizness9045
      @nunyabizness9045 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      brownj000 it was already reported that are still hackable thru a reader down in Houston. So much for the security. They still hold all you personal info and monitor what you purchase. We don't need that

    • @forrest225
      @forrest225 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Not Sure
      How the hell could it work without that data? If they don't know who swiped/dipped that card, they don't know which account to charge genius.
      If you don't like it, you had better use cash.

    • @nunyabizness9045
      @nunyabizness9045 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      forrest225 I do use cash on a majority of my transactions thank you

    • @brownj0002
      @brownj0002 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, great - but knowing how much bacteria is on cash I wonder if that is the optimal choice, but more power to you. I touch it myself from time to time. ;)
      OF COURSE the chip can still be hacked by a physical man-in-the-middle reader if it is physically between the chip and the terminal. That isn't proof this is more or less secure. I'll put it this way, it cuts the number of people STORING your CC# for every transaction IN HALF. What's wrong with that?
      Nobody said it was perfect. RISK cannot be eliminated in the credit card system, only reduced. This reduces it.
      BUT you didn't say what kind of tracking you meant. As far as I see, there is still no difference in tracking ability between this and the old magnetic stripe- for business, or the government, or aliens, as far as I know. I hear people say "big brother is tracking you!!!" but I don't get it. Of course they are, but this isn't how.
