Thanks for the feedback Mike! That clip from beginning of cast to me saying ‘Sweet Pink Cherry!’ Is 13.4 minutes long, but seems to whiz by. Sometimes I edit out portions of a fight where nothing is going on, like at times in episode 1, that fish was just sitting in current dogging me. But this one was non-stop running around through boulder patches, several times getting hung up! It just worked to leave it whole. I will keep this in mind for future videos. Thanks again. 🎣
So cool! Every true steelheader has been there a time or two, I know I have looked like a fool trying to land fish solo before. Really enjoying these videos and looking forward to what the future has in store. Congrats on retirement Barry, thank you for you service and enjoy the extra time on the river!
Thank you, thank you and thank you! 😊 I truly appreciate the feedback, it makes all the editing time worth it. I’m looking forward to chasing perfect river levels rather than being subject to what I get on days off. 🎣
Good to hear! I always try to get the release on video submerged while fishing alone. That’s the great thing about GoPros, they are completely waterproof. Welcome to the channel and thanks for the comment! 👍🏻
She was a fighter! The intro to Bill Herzog’s drift fishing book best describes this type of fight, “Overdosing on adrenaline, you sprint down the gravel bank in hot pursuit of two and a half feet of chrome muscle this is determined to return to the ocean with you in tow.” That’s why I love steelhead! This girl and the one in episode one had already spawned but were powerful. However this hen definitely put up the fight of the year. And best of all, she swam off like it was no big deal! 😁🎣
It was the fight of the season! I can only think of a couple other steelhead battles of similar caliber. One video from Steelhead December 2021, ‘Most Epic Steelhead Battle of 2021’ was similar, but on lighter gear. Also one of the fish on ‘Rainy Day Steelhead’ pulled me down river mainly due to the turbulence. Of course these are the ones I remember best. 😉
Wow! I woke up at 2 am, and what did I find, but Part 4 of the Steelhead Tales series, and oh, my, that fish took you for a journey! Very impressive performance, even more so considering she had already done her duty before breaking out that giant economy sized can of whoop-azz on you! She sure had recovered a beautiful color to her, certainly showing no ill effects from her spawning. She was right at the make or break part of that section, too! If she went just a bit further, it would have been all she wrote! That was awesome! SPC once again. I don't quite understand why anyone would be laughing at you. You had your hands full with an angry steelie! This series has been so much fun to watch, with big steelhead gracing every episode! All in all, a big time success! Well done, Barry! I'm fired up for some winter fishing now. 🎣
Thanks for the detailed comment William. I’m sure I’m more critical of myself than anyone else could be. However I’m getting so much positive feedback for leaving the fight uncut, I might just do that on occasion from now on, especially while only running one camera. You may have noticed the second camera wasn’t running. It was a hero 9, which kept malfunctioning in the 2023 season. It had turned off before I hooked her, so I had no secondary footage, even though I wouldn’t have been in that frame for long. 😁 That camera has been replaced by GoPro so let’s hope that’s no longer a problem.
Thank you, but that’s why you will rarely see another fisherman in my videos besides my buddies. I’ll travel far to be alone on a river bank, even if the majority of run is wild. 😬
Awesome video Barry. Love that river😉. I just bought my 2024 license and tag and I can’t wait to get out and get into a few steelhead this winter. I will be having minor surgery on both of my hands on February 22nd so I will definitely get some trips in before that. Hopefully I will be able to get in a few trips in March and April.
I figured you’d like this one. 😊 It’s my favorite video of the series so far, a fight I won’t forget. Good luck on the surgery, let me know how it goes. Hopefully it resolves whatever issue you’re dealing with so you can get back to doing what you love. I’m nursing several injuries myself, my job hasn’t been good on my body, but I only have 4 days to go! Woohoo! Good luck in the 2024 season! It’s quickly approaching! 🎣
Thanks Ray! I just wish you all had a better view of the end. Having a camera on my chest pack isn’t the greatest angle since I have to blade my body. I might have to add the head mounted camera a few times this year to capture that better.
@@RAGEFISHING I know how tough it is to even get decent video, and the editing is way more difficult then most people can imagine, you do great with both. I appreciate you taking the time to bring it together.
Awesome battle!! Love the videos! Found your channel about a month ago and have almost watched all your videos dating back the last 3 years in anticipation of the season ahead! Keep up the great work!
Really beautiful fish, always interesting when they migrate downriver! Still looking for the first winter of the season, hoping to get a few this season. Good to see your catches from last year, keeps spirits higher when fishing is rough. Good luck and tight lines!
I recently released a video going over the E6X G.Loomis rods I use in detail. Here’s the link; th-cam.com/video/-LCPX4hS1ck/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lKeqX3j5VaGN9bb1 They are great rods! The bead rod is a 9’6” medium heavy power, fast action, 8-17# 1145 model. The jig rod is also a 9’6” but medium light, fast action, 6-12#, also works great for beads, 1143 model. The spinner rod is an old GL3 8’6” medium, fast, 8-12#, model 1024. Let me know if you have any other questions. I’ve been a G.Loomis fan for years.
It is, OnX is a game changer. Not only is it great for hunting, but I use it all winter during steelhead season as well. Pre-save maps for areas without cell coverage like this one, and run it on airplane mode as a GPS.
Thanks for not editing. The fight, scenery & the beautiful water. It's wonderful. Keep it up.

The release footage alone earned my subscription!!!

About 11 minutes of fighting the fish. What fun and a nice release. Woohoo

We do not quit playing because we grow old, we grow old because we quit playing.
Good observation! 😊
Wow, I’m impressed you kept fishing after that! My arm would have been toast!
You better get on that assault bike to be prepared for SHRT 4.0!
what a absolutely epic fight man!

Gorgeous fish! Great Job Barry!
Thank you. She was a fighter and swam off like it was nothing. 😊
Takes some skill chasing a fish that far down river.
Best time of year!
Those boulders were no joke, covered in moss and submerged. It was like a winter steelhead Ninja Warrior course. 😁
You Earned it! Nice Fish!
Thank you! She is the reason Winter Steelhead are my #1! What a battler! 🎣

This is such a good steelhead video!
Thanks Nathaniel! It’s just true footage! An easy one to edit. 🎣
That was a workout! But a nice fish. Good job!
It was a workout! Especially in waders and dressed for cold weather! She was a beauty and had the true spirit of a winter steelhead. 🎣
Nice!
what a battle! who needs the gym?!
I think she was laughing at me too the way she swam off! "You need to work out more mister!" - Wild Hen Steelhead
Nice fight great fish
It was incredible! What a fighter.
It’s good nobody was around. In a crowded fishery, you’d probably have some pissed off (and jealous) neighbors. Nice job.
Thank you, but that’s why you will rarely see another fisherman in my videos besides my buddies. I’ll travel far to be alone on a river bank, even if the majority of run is wild. 😬
On the next episode of "Who Handled Who?" haha. Nice fish!
Exactly! She was laughing at me too! 🤣
Awesome video!!! We’ve all been there and it’s some of the best memories that stand out for me.
That initial run should have been a clue to what kind of fight I was in for. 😁🎣

Nice fish bro..keep doin you
Thanks TR! I’m getting a lot of positive feedback for the uncut fight. So maybe I’ll adjust a few things in the future. 🎣
We have all begged to get them in the net, Great video glad you didn't cut it..

Thank you. I'll never forget that one!
You can use the bnr bead stop wire, push it thur the bead and pull your leader back thur
Interesting idea, thank you. I’m assuming for beads with a hole? The DRO and Steelhead Stalker beads don’t have a hole, so you have to make one.
meth jelly is one of my favorite DRO colors as well as wizard
Wizard Hex and Meth Jelly are 2 of Jacob’s favorites too.
Phenomenal! What are the specs on the three rods that you used? Length ect? I clicked on the links but could not find that. Appreciate it
I recently released a video going over the E6X G.Loomis rods I use in detail. Here’s the link;

Let me know if you have any other questions. I’ve been a G.Loomis fan for years.
is that onyx map you're using?
