    A excellent few hours at Whittlesea, March, Ely, Waterbeach and Cambridge North during the ECML Diverts on Saturday 5th January 2019. Since the LNER, Hull Trains and Grand Central were diverting via Cambridge i had to pop out and see what i could catch. I wasn't disappointed, we had saw a 67 drag 1E02 at Ely.
    Whittlesea info:
    Whittlesea railway station is on the Ely-Peterborough line in the east of England and serves the town of Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. "Whittlesea" is an older spelling of the town's name.
    It is 94 miles 60 chains (152.5 km) measured from London Liverpool Street via Ely and is situated between March and Peterborough stations.
    All the original station buildings have long been demolished, and only the two platforms remain. Unlike most level crossings, the gates at the Whittlesea crossing are not automatic and are still opened and closed by hand by a member of railway staff based in a small adjacent building.
    In 1968 the Flying Scotsman visited the station to have its tender refilled with water.
    Services:
    Greater Anglia operates one train every two hours between Ipswich and Peterborough.
    CrossCountry operates three trains per day Monday-Saturday between Birmingham and Cambridge, of which two are extended beyond Cambridge to Stansted Airport.
    East Midlands Trains operates a service to Liverpool Lime Street Monday-Saturday only.

    Great stuff. There's a daily non-stop at from Gloucester to Stansted Airport. Who knew?!

      I do as I live in Gloucester. I have a feeling it's not just Gloucester. I think it may start in Cardiff

      Andrew Cowling I believe it starts at Bristol Temple Meads about 6:15 ish. I thought it odd when the display board at SSD showed it coming from there. Wouldn’t want to do that journey

      In the current timetable (Dec 2019 - May 2020) this is the 0624 (Mondays to Fridays) from Bristol Temple Meads (Birmingham New Street 0815/0822, Leicester 0911/0918, Stansted Airport 1141).
      I think by "non-stop", though, you mean "through connection", as this train makes 19 stops between Bristol and Stansted 🙂.

    Whoa you saw a broken down train that's so RARE

    • @Delta004
      @Delta004 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's not the case. The diesel is dragging the electric because the diversionary route is not electrified.

    • @ryanstransport7574
      @ryanstransport7574 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Delta004 why is there overhead wires then that allow the 387's and 365's to run on?

    • @alex_hay2779
      @alex_hay2779 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ryan G because that is the route from kings cross that they take, the reason the 225s are dragged is because the Ely to Peterborough bit isn’t electrified and the systems around Cambridge are too complex to be having a 67 running around coupling and uncoupling from sets.

      alex_trains 27 Yep, agreed. Sadly they decided to stop investigating the possibility of electrification of the line between Peterborough and Ely
