    Love your humor!
    Edit: Absolutely appreciate the depth you've gone to for this video. I would go for the portofino52 as well. Such an elegant boat with amazing innovations and creature comforts.

    Absolutely agree 💯 Portofino (Rafael) and his crew are all incredibly talented Professional people, these catamaran are not only amazingly safe, but they are style, cerfistication and Eli-Gence. Watch this space, because Portofino will be the Company to beat, I hope one day I get to just see one in the flesh, I know I'll be drooling.🇦🇺😁

    You are very thorough! Just wrapped up a bareboat Lagoon 46 for 2 weeks in the BVI with the family. What a great time. Would love to buy you a glass of wine next time we're in Van. Great channel!

      Hey Yan. Thanks so much for watching. I would LOVE to meet up with you the next time you are in town! You just did what I am planning for '26. a BVI crewed charter. Seth, from HH promises me that the experience will make Sylvia a true believer. Do you have any charter company recommendations? D

    Cheers Dave, the Portofino 52 is my choice for my dream cat for the mix of comfort, performance and a strong reliable Alu construction. The centreboards, lifting rudders (that you didn’t mention) and forward ladder are fantastic, practical innovations, as are the stern cabin doors. I’m really thankful to the barefoot doctors for doing the hard yards for me and to you for the comparison stats. Great show. 👍

      Hey Instig8rr. Thrilled you enjoyed the episode...and i want to kick myself that I forgot the lifting rudders! Are you moving ahead with securing a build slot? It's just an amazing vessel. Thanks for watching and commenting. D

    Thanks for the content! I enjoy your more numerical approach to the artform :). Renders of the P52 look awesome but Portofino hasn't designed, built, and launched a single production boat yet. Let's get a few in the water with some hours in the deep blue before we open the bubbly :).

    Hi, Dear Sailing Friend, thanks for your lovely presentation and comparison on your four lovely aluminium yachts. And not least your Tuscan wine presentation, which could have been funnyer if it came from Portofino, "wino de garage". I have the same love for wine. Please show the wine labels, front and back, the next time, to the camera, so we also can take part!
    According to the Barfootdoctors, latest presentation, yesterday on the boat they ordered, the Portofino 52, showing the wind speed 10 & 15 knot, sail & boat speed diagram; the boat speed exceeds, with the right sail, say the code-0, the wind speed.
    So the boat certainly is a performance boat, it all comes down to "Sea Man Ship"! Please look it up!

    Visited portofino in mid November and got on both hulls and speaking with Rafael about all the innovations was really amazing. Our p52 will be ready in 2027

    Portofino have said they have saved lots of weight from their original design and that the vessel is will be closer to 16,500kg. Laser welding is now being utilised which uses far less material and they have a lighter tender lift mechanism to name a few places weight will be reduced.

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Caza. That is very good news. The weight, almost always goes up...not down LOL.

    • @itamare_official
      @itamare_official หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @caza00caza thank you for mentioning the lightness of our tenderlift that we made for Portofino, we are proud of the light and simple system with the ability to stop the platform even in the middle position.

    Payload displacement för the Portofino 52, is 2,5 tons, and by the way the Barfootdoctors, have ordered one!

      Hey Tony. I can't break my Hull #10+ rule. The TH-cam early adopters (Winns, Ruby Rose, SLV) have been suffering enough to solidly reinforce that rule. LOL! Thanks for watching!!

    Hi Dave, do you trust the Light Displacement numbers from Portofino? Considering everything, they pack into the boat!

    • @deerfootnz
      @deerfootnz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly my thought. I don't believe any of the lightship numbers given by the builders and furthermore even the dubious numbers here are too heavy.

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Rob. Thanks for watching. Lightship numbers are only a vague indicator on any boat, simply because there are no hard and fast industry standards for a definition of that term...or any 3rd party validation. Having said that, everything I have seen and heard in my communications with Portofino over the last 2 years leads me to believe in their intended integrity. Additionally, the numbers they provide are not "unbelievable" and, having come from a machining estimation environment, I'm reasonably comfortable that the design software will do a good job at the weight estimate. BUT...they are still working on hull #1 and, no matter what anyone says, there are changes being made on the fly, so treat the quoted lightship as an honest estimate with a host of variables. We really will not know the true displacement until maybe hull#5...and even then, it depends on your definition of lightship. Its a funny business. LOL. D

      @@navalgazingatcampdavid Thank you, David! I have been in touch with Raffaele since he published the initial cat designs. For us, the 47 would be perfect. But he has raised the prices significantly since his first quote. Our timeline is similar to yours. We want to be on our boat in the second half of 2028 and need to order in 2026. By then, the 47 could be outside our budget. Good luck to you, David! I have developed something interesting if you ever want to cover safety at sea in your videos.

    Thank you Dave for all your research and hard work to make those presentations. My five cents in general, not to Portofino per se:
    1. From 1.Million Euro plus, I expect full safety glass, no plastic windows. Portofino has got which ones?
    2. Nobody seems to take into consideration the build time. An Amel, I can have in 12 months, nice. Balance Cat, Outremer? Aluminum hulls 24 months…Even a handmade Rustler 42 takes not more than max. 15 months. I am not so happy to spend more than a million and have to wait 24 months, Aluminum hulls are a more complex story, so that is acceptable.
    Kind Regards from Europe

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Professor. I am with you 150% on the Amel. Ohhhhh what a lovely yacht!! Why ,oh why, can't cat manufacturers build interiors and functionality like an Amel 50! The lead times for new cats are just silly right now, but it should ease over the next 12 months. I have never looked at the Rustler, but I shall right now. Honestly, unless you could catch a canceled Balance build slot that met your timeline, I would go for the Amel. Just a stunning craft! Re the glass on a Portofino...It is marine safety glass. Regardless, I would not be ordering a new Portofino for at least a year so that I could have hull #10+. Ruby Rose, Winns and SLV should be cautionary tales for any early adopter. Thanks again for watching!

    • @ProfessorVolland
      @ProfessorVolland 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Thank you Dave for swift reply. Regarding Rustler build time, I know it because Adrian from Rustler told me, in September. Regarding Amel, the eight year product lifecycle is over in 2025. I assume a new model will come in 2025/26.
      Take care

    IIRC Plucky from Sailing into Freedom doesn't seem to believe the performance numbers from Portofino…

    • @deerfootnz
      @deerfootnz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And for good reason. If something seems too good to be true then it probably is. Physics is immutable. Portofino promises an improbable displacement & performance.

    • @navalgazingatcampdavid
      @navalgazingatcampdavid  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He could be right, but it's just a computer software calculation, so short of falsifying the inputs, which I don't think Portofino would intentionally do, the calculated performance could definitely be what they have shown. Real world sailing rarely equals perfect world calculations because there are just too many variables. Having said that, you can use the polars to make a guess at the relative capabilities of one boat to the other. That is about all they are good for. Bottom line, this boat promises to be a good performing cruiser that will generally outsail lagoon, Leopard, FP and even Nautitech. This will be in that next tier where the Xquisite 60 Solar Sail lives. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for writing! D
