    My dad was a musician when I was small. I can remember my dad's band coming over on Saturdays to practice to songs they would prepare for the night clubs my dad played in. Close family friends would come over with the kid's. My mother and the ladies were in the kitchen making food for the guys in the band and friends. We had a very big green backyard. Kid's running around playing but I don't know..I'd be close by sitting down watching my dad play his guitar and sing. I was attracted to the music.
    Many times the adults would run me off and tell me to go play but I was interested in music. I think I took after my dad🙂 family gatherings were fun and full of memories.
    I have old video's of my cousins recording my dad singing at gathering's and parties.
    Also have records 33's of my dad's songs 🙂

      Stan Getz était incomparable de son temps et malgré l'excellence des grands ténors d'aujourd'hui , il n'a jamais été dépassé......et même pas égalé . Mais c'est une remarque idiote : on ne peut pas comparer des gens comme ceux-là !!! Pour ajouter une note de méchanceté , pour ne pas faire comme tout le monde : Dommage qu'il ait eu un sacré caractère de cochon . Pardon Stan...........

    I'm not stretching for superlatives here. I have an extensive collection of jazz CD's most featuring sax but this is some of the most tender and nuanced playing I think I've heard. A lot of guys could pull that off on a ballad maybe but Getz displays brilliant sensitivity throughout this album.

    A wonderful rendition of one of my favorite Fred Astair classics "Night and Day" Stan was a comrade in WWII of my Sax Teacher at University of Minnesota. Dr. Reuben. Stan had an IQ over 260. Dr. Reuben and Stan would lie in the trenches clutching their clarinets/flute close to their hearts as bullets flew over their heads. They carried these into the field, not only because they were small and compact, but because when they had secured the perimeter, members of their battalion could enjoy their playing at a local German pub over a few Steins of Beer. True story as Dr. Reuben and I would often put aside the lesson for the day and talk about our lives. He owned the largest collection of Gene Krupa records (including some old wax discs), as he was the lead Tenor sax player for Gene's big band for many years.

    • @annedwyer797
      @annedwyer797 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      David Williams: I think Dr. Reuben was feeding you a fairy tale, or was speaking of someone other than Stan Getz. Getz was born in 1927 and was a few months shy of 15 when the US entered WWll in Deceber 1941. In 1943 at 16 he joined Jack Teagarden's band, and played with several other major big bands through 1949. Also, there is absolutely NO MENTION of any military service on Getz's Wikipedia page. As to the claim that Getz had an IQ of 260: Albert Einstein's IQ is estimated between 160 and 190. The assertion that Stan Getz had an IQ much higher than one of the true geniuses of the last 100 years is just silly.

      Stan here shows his squeaks and honks, such a contrast to his usual mellow playing. This heightens the playing! Piano is very good!

      @Louise X ...and suddenly started recording serene albums of beautifully harmonized Swedish folk melodies! Classic albums - a GENIUS musician!

      @Louise X Oh! I apologize! I didn't see the end phrase of your comment about his sudden death in a car accident... How absolutely awful! (Nor did I know about this tragic fate... damn...). I MUST say I have some other favorite hero Swedish musicians: Especially the late pianist, Lars Sjosten, whom I love deeply. And the great Putte Wickman. Also the great genius himself, the legendary Lars Gullin - i fact his son, Peter, also deceased prematurely - just fantastic!! One more very special, for me: The GREAT Argentinean trumpeter, Gustavo Bergalli who lives in Stockholm - one of the greatest, melodically inspired, jazz soloists alive today!!

    Superb ensemble playing-in tune, beautiful full toned on all instruments- Rhythm section so solid and tasteful-drummer and bass player so locked in and never overplaying or too loud just laying down a tremendous platform for Getz and others. The smooth and great timed shuffles on the first two songs are impeccable. A study in taste and musicality.

    Le plus expressif (dans un sens), le seigneur étant Coltrane, lequel admirait Getz (aucun des des deux ne m'étant donné avoir la chance de VOIR en concert, pas plus Bill Evans et j'en oublie) ; merci à Alain Gerber ou France Musique possédait encore une äme.... (pardon pour la typoraphie hasadeuse !)
