As a main tank player in OW1, my main heroes are Rein & Winston but, with the recent surge in Doomfist, Roadhog, and Orisa, I've had to flex to Orisa fairly often. Do you think Rein, Winston, and Orisa is a well-rounded hero pool?
How important is tailoring your hero pool to the Poke/Dive/Brawl team compositions. As a tank player I've tried my best to keep 1 of each (Rien, Sigma, Ball) but I'm not sure how important it is since I've found myself really enjoying Ramattra. (Also I queue for all roles so I have pools for every role lol) (Echo, Junkrat, Venture for DPS and Lifeweaver, Lucio, Moira for Suppport)
I’m having an identity crisis since doom was made a tank. Genji main and used to play doom a lot, now my hero pool is kind of defaulted to Genji, hanzo and tracer but this seems like a weak hero pool to me. Any thoughts?
always felt that mei, echo or hanzo can be added into a hitscan pool without much downside, while a character like reaper really doesn't need a classification like hitscan/projectile. And now after nerf sojourn having a much stronger projectile fire and a weaker railgun also feels like a mix.
It's definitely true that certain characters simply aren't mechanically demanding enough to warrant the differentiation. It's less about those characters ALWAYS being harmful to a hero pool of the opposite signature, it's more about the fact that nowadays, there are so many different DPS characters, that there are very few "niche" picks that do something no one else can. A projectile player adding Reaper to his hero pool to deal with a Winston for example can achieve very similar results with a character like Junkrat for example. Sojourn is definitely in an interesting position. I 100% agree, now that her left click is much stronger, it's way more difficult to classify her. I'd say that she is one of the only true "hybrid" picks that, at the time of writing, can fit into either a projectile or Hitscan hero pool. This entire situation is also the main reason why i refrained from listing the specific hitscan and projectile characters in this video. I feel like it's going to change a lot and with some characters, the lines are super blurry.
Is it okay to have two different mains, then a more versatile backup? Like if I play Ana and Mercy most of the time, I could either do strong pokes and burst heals from the backline, or pocket individual plays. With Kiriko as backup I could do both to some degree, as and when required.
I personally wouldnt recommend having 2 mains unless you have a lot of playtime. Ultimately however you have to choose whatever brings you the most enjoyment :)
So when do you switch to bastion or sombra? I am a support main and am trying to reach into dps but I’m not sure who to start with. Been using symmetra and bastion so far, but not sure if I should just keep focusing these or if there are better choices to go with.
This is a great video that I’ve been coming back to frequently! My main is Mei but I have some trouble vs pharah comps and maps that rely on high ground (mainly Gibraltar and Dorado). I also like playing tracer, but she doesn’t really help with these scenarios. I’m considering learning echo as my new secondary and occasionally flexing to tracer. She’s a bit challenging to play (especially the ult) but she’s great for high ground and vs pharah. Anyone have any thoughts on what complements Mei well?
I also main mei with sym as backup. I’ve been trying our soldier and i like him a lot. His rifle uses a lot of the same skills that beam-heroes also use. Although to be fair, the thing that should be the most important is that you start with the heroes you find the most fun and go from there.
@@Carebear_Pooh this is what I’ve realized in the past 3 months after trying to logic through which character I should play. although it took longer than I would have liked, I focus a lot less on the whole “countering” part of the game and just play what’s fun for me
@@zanedurante3709 yeah, it's important to remember that there's always someone out there that one-tricked their way into GM/Top 500 with the hero you enjoy. No matter how difficult or badly a hero is perceived, there are always people that can make him work. What that teaches us is that, yes, each hero is capable of channeling your skill in such a way that it will get you to the top. Sure, Pharah might be difficult to deal with as Mei when she's super high away, but the trick is to come up with something creatively that works. If you have multiple heroes you really enjoy, building a small hero pool of 3 heroes can help a lot. the first is your main pick. the second is your backup pick for when your main pick is taken. the third is a hero that can cover the weaknesses of the other two. For me, my hero pool for dps is Mei, Sym, Soldier. I start with mei, because i just really enjoy her gameplay. if the enemy team has lots of shields and/or snipers and the game is not going great, i go sym. Sym can flank much better thanks to her teleporter and her beam shreds shields harder than bastion. If they have a Pharah that i just cant deal with with both Mei and Sym, I take Soldier. His aimstyle still mostly consist of tracking, he still has a selfheal but he's much better at dealing with airborne targets. By making my hero pool so small, i can focus my gameplay much more and get better at these three heroes, instead of getting mediocre at all dps heroes. But they all offer the core tools I like, which is a tracking aimstyle combined with some sort of selfheal. Mei has iceblock, soldier has healing field and Sym has shield HP.
Since Widow relies a lot on securing picks, she can struggle against comps that are harder to kill, like very mobile characters (Lucio, Moira, Genji, etc). I'd recommend adding Ashe as your back up pick, her dynamite is really nice against those exact targets, and having a super strong ult with Bob makes you less reliant on getting picks :) The tech pick is optional, I usually recommend characters like Sombra or Bastion for Hitscan players, to deal with either super mobile characters (Doom, Hammond), or with hard carry tanks like Reinhardt :)
Im learning the game rn and am focused on hitscan dps. Atm im comfortable with Soldier, Tracer, Reaper, Ashe and Soujourn. Tryna learn widow and maybe genji, but it seems like widow seems like a big commitment since the positioning and pace you play at seems so much different from other DPS, seeing as you're so vulnerable if a flanker manages to close the gap. Im also silver atm, maybe playing less characters will be better as counterplay wont matter as much in this elo? If I had to narrow it down to my strongest, id pick ashe, soldier and tracer however I feel like this is limited at times and I feel like playing others? Should I focus on just mastering 3 heros fully or just play what I feel like as long as its not completely different playstyle such as pharah.
Ashe Soldier Tracer is a very solid hero pool. You want to be careful about spreading yourself too thin, after a certain point you have enough characters in your hero pool to deal with most situations, and adding more characters starts to limit how much you can improve on your main picks. I highly recommend mastering those 3 heroes first, and then transferring the skills you gained onto the other characters once you decide to swap out your hero pool or make it larger :)
Fast, accurate, and to the point. Always love your vids.
Thank you for the constant help ioStux!!! I've been binge watching your videos and have been improving in my ranked games!

Yes! :)

I only started OW2 and I only have Kiriko which I’m more comfortable with. Is there any other support that I can add to my pool ?
