  • This is a time-compressed video (500%) of about 16 minutes of roasting. Coffee is 1/2 pound of Yemen Mocha Ismaili.
We were shooting for Full City+ to Vienna for this bean.

For the Gene Cafe roaster owners: How would you describe the coffee roasted with this machine in comparison with a local profesional roaster?

Nice Machine! Expensive but if you can roast 16 minutes wow it must have a great Flavor profile. Yum Thanks

Great unit........but, if you roast by ear, you will miss first crack, etc., due to loud machine noise. Only reason I don't own one.

I think I am going to buy the Rotate Fun 300 coffee roaster. It is more than 200$ cheaper but not as space age as this one.

I agree with Antonio Carlos... a pointless video.... BUT, after over a year roasting beans with a popcorn hot air machine I bought the Gene Cafe a few days ago and, happily, it is a dream to use. Recommend it for home and small business use.

Hi Johnny: I'm considering buying one, can you tell me if it smells up the kitchen too much? Is the vacuum hose necessary? Lastly, does the voltage draw on the outlet concern you?

Gosh it will fill your kitchen with smoke without an exhaust hose! I have mine in my workshop/shed without a hose and there it's fine.
Regarding voltage drop, I'm a physicist not and electrician so I've just measured it. Switched off V=238.9, switched on V=237.4 which is too small a drop to be concerned about. By the way I have fine results setting time at 18 minutes and temperature 210C which I increase to 245C at about 15 minutes. Note that I do not suggest you leave it unattended! I show up at 14/15 minutes to turn up the temp and then stay with it, occasionally starting cooling late or extending time slightly... depends on ambient temp and the beans.
Enjoy your machine if you get one.

Thanks for the feedback Johnny, I hope it's not a potential fire hazard at that rate of heat.

Rate of heat? You did understand I that I put temperature up to 245C at the 15min mark and NOT FOR 15min? The Guatemalan SHB is then done with 2nd crack barely started.

for what purpose this type of video serve? Turn a cam on and point it to a moving machine? What a waste of time...
